New StriVectin Hair Care for Color-Treated Hair

My bathroom looks like a hair salon these days. I’ve been trying out so many new haircare products and brands I’m almost overwhelmed. So when I received 4 new haircare products from StriVectin, I wasn’t even sure where I was going to put them, lol.

StriVectin, well-known for their research-based skincare products with their patented anti-aging ingredient N-114 (a molecule related to one of my favorite anti-aging ingredients Niacinamide), recently brought anti-aging to the haircare arena with several different lines for different haircare needs. I received the line for color-treated hair that included four products:

I have tried the first three products on two occasions, and I’ll report on my experiences with them. Because my hair was freshly colored, I am saving the Color Care Vibrancy Booster for when my hair is closer to my next color appointment and needs some oomph.

Color Care Shampoo

“Protective shampoo gently cleanses while forming a shield around the hair cuticle to defend against color fade. Removes dulling buildup to reveal shine and softness.”

A clean-scented gel cream, the Color Care Shampoo makes a good amount of suds. It easily rinses clean, and leaves my hair feeling clean with a slight squeak. I liked it a lot! Price $23 for 8.5 oz.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water, Eau), Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Cocamide Mea, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Peg-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Dimethicone, Acrylates Copolymer, Parfum (Fragrance), Polyglyceryl-3 Laurate, Myristyl Nicotinate, Hydrolyzed Sweet Almond Protein, Cynara Scolymus (Artichoke) Leaf Extract, Glycol Distearate, Amodimethicone, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein PG-Propyl Silanetriol, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Laurdimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Keratin, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Propanediol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Divinyldimethicone/Dimethicone Copolymer, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Benzyl Alcohol, PEG-150 Distearate, Disodium EDTA, Polysilicone-15, Polyquaternium-7, BHT, Laureth-23, Laureth-4, Cetrimonium Chloride, Trideceth-12, Dimethiconol, Decyl Glucoside, Lauryl Glucoside, C12-13 Pareth-23, C12-13 Pareth-3, Chitosan, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Potassium Hydroxide, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Citral, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Hydroxycitronellal, Limonene, Linalool.

Color Care Conditioner

“Protective conditioner deposits low molecular weight proteins to fortify over processed strands while defending against color fade. Seals in moisture to resist future damage from coloring and environmental stressors.”

The Color Care Conditioner is a cream colored gel cream that is lighter weight than the conditioners I usually use, and truth be told, I was afraid it wouldn’t work because it didn’t seem as heavy. I was worried that it wouldn’t be as hydrating as the conditioners I’m used to. I was wrong. It worked fine. Price $23 for 8.5 oz.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water, Eau), Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Cetyl Alcohol, Hydrogenated Ethylhexyl Olivate, Amodimethicone, Parfum (Fragrance), Cetyl Esters, Isododecane, Myristyl Nicotinate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Beta Vulgaris (Beet Root) Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Cynara Scolymus (Artichoke) Leaf Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, Stearamine Oxide, Panthenol, Hydrogenated Olive Oil Unsaponifiables, Ethylhexylglycerin, Glycerin, Jojoba Esters, Hydrolyzed Corn Starch, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein PG-Propyl Silanetriol, Hydrolyzed Sweet Almond Protein, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Honey, Propanediol, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Polysorbate 60, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Benzyl Alcohol, Tetrasodium Edta, Trideceth-12, Polysilicone-15, C11-15 Pareth-7, BHT, Cetrimonium Chloride, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Laureth-9, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Benzoic Acid, Sorbic Acid, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Citral, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Hydroxycitronellal, Limonene, Linalool.

Color Care UV Protective Spray

“Protect from the elements. Lightweight spray shields hair root and fiber from oxidizing UV rays and environmental stressors to resist color fade. Soothes and hydrates scalp while improving overall hair health.”

Because I haven’t been outdoors much since it’s still cold around here, I didn’t think I needed this now, but I tried it out anyway. It comes in a pump bottle and gives a fine mist. The scent was faint, and couldn’t be smelled on my hair. The spray was extremely lightweight and imperceptible on my hair. I’m assuming it did the job because at this time of year when I’m indoors most of the time, I can’t tell. I’m going to save the UV Protective Spray for the warm weather. Price $29 for 5 oz.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water, Eau), Butylene Glycol, Coceth-7, Cyclopentasiloxane, Myristyl Nicotinate, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Tamarindus Indica Seed Extract, Isohexadecane, Phenyl Trimethicone, Glycerin, Xylitol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Potassium Dimethicone PEG-7 Panthenyl Phosphate, Panthenol, Pentylene Glycol, Polyquaternium-53, Sodium Cocoyl Amino Acids, Lactitol, Acrylamidopropyltrimonium Chloride/Acrylates Copolymer, Cetrimonium Chloride, Propylene Glycol, Polyquaternium-6, Benzophenone-4, BHT, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Sodium Hydroxide, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol.

Final Thoughts

As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been trying out a lot of new haircare products, and I’ve been mostly satisfied with all of them. Because StriVectin’s expertise has been in skincare, I wasn’t exactly sure that it would translate to haircare, but I can say that it definitely has. The StriVectin Color Care products that I’ve tried so far gave me very good results. My hair is soft, shiny, and that haircare advertising word “manageable”. Although I’m used to a conditioner that’s heavier, this lighter weight conditioner works fine on my hair.

I typically wash my hair every 4-5 days, and this set worked well to keep my hair clean and looking good for that time period. In fact, on Friday night (after 4 days), Jeff gave me an unsolicited compliment on my hair. He asked if I had just had it done at Vidal Sassoon! I was blown away. I washed it again with StriVectin on Saturday afternoon because we were going out, and it came out perfectly. And it looked great the next day as well. I don’t anticipate needing to shampoo again for a few more days. I’m sold on the StriVectin Color Care line!

BTW, to tell the shampoo bottle from the conditioner bottle in the shower, the shampoo has an orange top and the conditioner has a white top. I should be able to remember that since the orange color should remind me that the SLS-free shampoo won’t fade my “orange” hair, lol.

The Color Care product line is free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates and synthetic dyes. Safe for color or chemically treated hair. In addition to being able to purchase each product separately, there is a starter kit available for $30 that includes 2 oz. each of the shampoo and conditioner and 1 oz. of the Vibrancy Booster that I haven’t tried yet. In general, I think the prices for these haircare products are in line with other prestige brands of haircare. In addition to Ulta Beauty, StriVectin hair care products are sold at Sephora, Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Saks Fifth Avenue.

I’ll be back again with a review of the Color Vibrancy product after I’ve had a chance to try it out.

Have you tried the new StriVectin hair care yet?

  1. These sound so lovely, Allison! And wow, you wash your hair every 4-5 days? I wish I could do that but I wash my hair every night after cooking, can’t stand the smell of food in my hair and so far I have yet to find a dry shampoo that doesn’t make my hair feel like straw. 🙁

    1. I have such dry hair, Shireen, that I was drying it out so badly plus washing out the red color when I washed it every night. Fortunately, my hair doesn’t pick up cooking smells. I’m not a fan of dry shampoo either. I agree it turns my hair to straw too!

  2. These sounds really great! I am still waiting for mine to arrive, but I think I chose this same range. Thank you for the fantastic review, Allison! I can’t wait to try these!

  3. Exciting to see the brand branching out! I’ll keep an eye out for their products, I don’t color my hair though so I wouldn’t need these.

    1. They have at least one other line, if not more than one, Tess, for other hair issues. But regardless of which brand you go with, you can never go wrong using shampoo and conditioner for color-treated hair because they don’t have SLS in it that can fade hair including natural hair color.

  6. I got a sample of the Strivectin Ultimate Restore and really disliked the shampoo (couldn’t get my hands through my hair), but the conditioner was nice. I’ll have to try the color care version as it seems my dark brown color is fading a bit too quickly between touch ups.

    1. Monica, that is so disappointing. Did you email StriVectin and give them that feedback? I’ve found that they are very responsive. Now, I don’t recall having a problem like that with the Color Care Shampoo, but I don’t really run my fingers through my hair after shampooing specifically, though I guess I do to some extent to check that all the shampoo is out before applying the conditioner.

  7. I just got the volume set today and can’t wait to start using it!

  16. It’s interesting to see a skincare brand venturing into haircare. I’m happy to read you loved the results from using the products in the line. I’m like you, I love when my conditioners are heavier, as it makes me feel like it is getting the job done.

    1. Yes, that’s the only thing I would change, but my results with the conditioner as is are great so I guess I shouldn’t complain. Thank you so much for commenting from your computer, Kim! I’ve gotta find an IT helper so I can get a new theme!
