New Windows at My House!

I had hoped to get a new review up for today, but life is just too busy right now.

The New Window Saga

On Tuesday morning, the guys from WindowWorld should finally be coming to install the 15 new windows that I gave them a huge downpayment for back on August 31. They were supposed to call me to set up an appointment for installation in November, but I never heard from them.

I finally called them in January, and the project manager lied and said he called me. The nice thing about phones these days is that you can track your calls. Nothing from WindowWorld.

At any rate, the big day is at hand. Yesterday, Jeff and I took down the curtains, drapes, blinds, and shades from the 15 windows. We’ve been working on it for 12 hours. Not surprisingly, we’re exhausted.

I wish the temperatures were warmer so I could at least put my plants outdoors to get them out of the way, but it’s too cold. Part of my great room looks like a greenhouse! And that’s the best part. The rest of my house looks like a cyclone hit it. Not that I’m the greatest housekeeper, I certainly am not, but I hate it when there’s stuff all over the place.

At least I washed the great room, first floor bathroom and guest room curtains. Those were easy ‘coz I could put them in the washing machine. I washed by hand the poles and rings that hold the drapes in the living room, dining room and my bedroom. But where to dry clean the heavy silk drapes? How to wash the delicate silky and gold sheer living room curtains so they don’t disintegrate? Any ideas or thoughts for me??

What’s Next?

Next, I’ve got to find a painter/wallpaper remover to paint one of my guest rooms. The wallpaper that I used to love is literally peeling off the walls. Ugh. And the rug needs to be replaced too.

Home ownership is never ending work! And money flying out the new windows 😀

I hope I’ll be able to finish the skincare product review that I started if I can make the time tomorrow: after I get a new driver’s license, drop in on my new CPA who hasn’t done my taxes after a month and doesn’t return phone or emails, and figure out what to do about the drapes and sheers.

Hope your week looks more promising!!

I am tired just reading all that you have going on. Are you windows going to look the same with the wood pieces or is it just full glass. Sure hope the temp is up there or your home might be really cold after they take all the windows out and replace. You can always go to a hotel and spoil yourself.

    1. Thank you, Gloria, for sympathizing. My house is a center hall colonial with a big great room on one side, so the house came with colonial-style 6 over 6 windows. Because I am only replacing half of my windows, they need to look the same, so they will still have the wood pieces. It would have been nice to have the wood pieces on the upper windows and clear glass on the bottom, but unless I did the entire house, it would look weird. I am replacing all of the windows on the front of my house, the big double Palladian window in the great room on the side of the house, one window on the side in my living room, and the window in the bathroom/laundry area on the first floor. Hopefully, they’ll look all of a piece! I hope this project gets finished some day!!

  2. Your house is beautiful. I can’t imagine how hard you have worked to get it into window ready shape. I hope the installers aren’t messy. We have just one double window being replaced and my husband is already groaning about removal of the blinds. I hope your new windows help your house feel even more cozy.

    1. Thank you, Marcia. It took Jeff somewhere between 6-8 hours to remove the blinds and the hardware. Surprisingly, he had an easier time with the custom blinds than with the cheapies from Target, one of which he broke, lol. Now I just need to find a handyman in addition to a skilled dry cleaner, a carpet cleaner, and a wallpaper installer/painter. Ugh.

  3. It’s terrible that they lied to you, but how nice that you have new windows! Your house is beautiful, Allison!

    1. I don’t have them yet, but thank you xoxo They come tomorrow morning. Hope they’ll be finished by Thursday end of day the latest. It will be ages before my house is put back to normal, but hopefully, it will be worth it.

    1. Thanks, Sharon. Now I have about another 8 or so that still need to be done!
