NOTD: Zoya Ruthie Nail Lacquer

Yesterday started with me being awakened by the doorbell. The HVAC repairman arrived 90 minutes early. When does that ever happen? He brought a part to install in my ancient humidifier that was added on to my furnace when I bought the house 17 years ago. I offered him a cup of coffee, and when I went back to the basement with it, he asked if I had just had my nails done.

When does a serviceman ever notice a manicure? Well, this one has two little girls, and he said he’s the one who paints their nails. How sweet is that?

So what was I wearing that it caught the eye of a guy with a humidifier filter housing in his hands? Zoya’s newish shade, Ruthie, with the super shiny, fast drying  Cuccio 7 Second Reactive Top Coat that I keep raving about.

Not surprisingly, Ruthie jumped out at me because it reminds me of a somewhat pinker version of the shades in the Zoya Naturelle collection that I love so much. Ruthie is described by Zoya as a full-coverage raspberry rose cream. I’d say a deep cool-toned pink mauve, but whatever. I think it’s a beautiful rich neutralish shade that’s perfect for any occasion.

Before applying Ruthie, I used Morgan Taylor REACT Base Coat. Then I decided to take the time to use peel-off Liquid Palisade (reviewed here), a liquid paint-on latex barrier that protects the cuticle and skin around the nails from getting polish on them. I am usually too lazy to be bothered, but Liquid Palisade actually went on fairly easily – more is better. After I peeled it off, I discovered only two tiny areas that I didn’t cover quite well enough, but I was able to wash off the mistakes with hot water.

BTW, I used the new wider Z-wide brush that Zoya offered for $1, the sale price (regular price $2), with the purchase I made during the holidays. Gee, I think it should be free or they should just switch over from the skinny awful brush.

But regardless, I love this pretty shade, Ruthie!

Oh BTW, I just remembered that Zoya is having a promotion right now that may be worth taking advantage of if you had your eye on some of their pretty polishes. Zoya is giving away 4 polishes FREE with code HUE19. You have to pay $15 for shipping unless you spend $50 when shipping is free, but still – 4 Zoya polishes for less than $4 each is a real deal!

Love the color Allison! Isn’t it nice when somebody notices your manicure? Especially the service man, lol. I just purchased an Essie polish in the shade Brownie Points. My mom was wearing it when I was there for the holidays and I immediately knew it was a color I will love on me. Funny thing is I would not have looked twice at the bottle had I not seen it on my mom, glad I did. Sadly your post reminds me I must do my nails today, lol. Have a great day! xo

    1. That’s a great story, Laura. I agree that sometimes you see a polish shade that you would never choose from the bottle on someone’s nails and it just gets to you. I am going to take a look at Essie Brownie Points. I’m curious now!

  2. That is adorable. I love that colour on you, and good for him on the polish front. I bet those will be cherished memories for his daughters when they grow up. He must have a steadier hand than my dad would have though! 😀
I’m still wearing my Pixie Dust from before New Years, but I’ve freshened it up enough times that it’s reached the tipping point. Time to soak it off (the only removal method I trust to keep glitter contained, and also my cat is always intrigued and slightly frightened by my foil fingers, hahaha) and pick a new colour. My own Cuccio topcoat arrived in the post so the timing is good. But what colour to pick……

    1. I thought it was the sweetest thing that Steve, the HVAC guy, paints his little daughters’ nails. It was like a TV commercial!. I am impressed that Pixie Dust has lasted so long, even with a little touchup. I am curious to hear what you think about Cuccio 7 Second Top Coat. I still love it, but everyone’s nails are different. 🙂

    2. Oh btw, I forgot to add it to my post, but in case their are Pixie Dusts you’re dying for, Zoya is having a get 4 free polishes by paying $15 for shipping. At less than $4 a bottle, I think it’s a decent deal 😉

      1. It is a nice deal! And I had already saved the promo email in my folder just in case. hehe 😉

For all the other readers here- go buy yourself some Pixie Dust!!! Or a creme, or a shimmer, or whatever else strikes your fancy. I may be partial to the Pixie Dust but their other offerings are nice too! 😀

Such a pretty shade, I own one that’s similar. Your story is funny. It reminds me of a male patient who asked if I was wearing matte liquid lipstick. I’m like how do you even know? he said his wife sells liquid lipstick so he knows lol

  6. Love the story. Even my husband rarely notices my manicures but my granddaughter does. Pretty, easy to wear shade.

  12. You know, Zoya is probably my favorite polish brand these days. They have so many gorgeous creamy shades (my favorite formula) and great pricing.

    1. Zoya definitely wins for me too when it comes to shade selections. They’re untouchable. And I own more Zoya polish than any other brand. But in terms of formula and lastingness, I’m falling for Morgan Taylor!

  13. Now that beauty is just my kind of nail color! It’s absolutely gorgeous!

    1. It’s such a lovely, classic, feminine shade
