NYC HD Color Eye Shadow Trio: Long Beach Sands

Recently, I received my first VoxBox from #Influenster — the Holly Jolly VoxBox — a box full of edible and non-edible goodies.

There were two makeup items in the box (to my absolute delight!) — eye shadow and lip gloss, and I will review them separately.

Today, I had a chance to try out the NYC New York Color HD Color Eye Shadow Trio, and the shades were neutrals called Long Beach Sands.

It was the perfect palette, shade-wise for me. (I don’t remember filling out a survey about my skin, hair and eye color when I joined Influenster, but I must have because both makeup items were spot on for my coloring!) The shades, all of which have a slight shimmer, were:

  • a pale peachy beige that they suggest as the highlighter
  • a cocoa brown for the lid
  • a cafe au lait for the crease.

The colors in the photo below are quite accurate.

I guess the suggestions were to create a modified smokey eye. I applied them a little differently because a true smokey eye is too much for me, but I love them on other women.

I applied the peachy beige on the inner corner and inner part of the lid, the cafe au lait in the middle and the cocoa brown in a V on the outer part of the lid. I applied some cafe au lait in the crease as well. And I used my new Mirabella blending brush from my December ipsy bag to blend it.

I’ve been trying to wear matte shades lately because I think they do look better on my well-over-40 eyes, but I was happy to try these shadows with a shimmer.

The shadows are a bit dry, didn’t go on quite as smoothly as I’d like, and I had to apply a fair amount.  The palette comes with a little sponge applicator which might be good in a pinch, but I switched to my regular eye shadow brush instead. Once I put enough on, there was good color pay-off or certainly enough for me. There was no fall-out, which is great. Also, a pleasant surprise was that these colors really last. I applied them at 2:30 this afternoon, and they still look good at 11:05pm.

Here are swatches of the three shades. Unfortunately, the pale winter afternoon light wasn’t much so they’re a little difficult to see, but the shades looked different under artificial light. You can kinda see that it was a little hard to build up the color, and on the third swatch the shade pilled a little (it’s not a pimple!). But I think the shades are very pretty.

The NYC HD Color Eye Shadow Trio costs $2.99, a great value. It’s available in 12 different color choices, all of which look very appealing. It’s sold at CVS, Rite Aid, Walmart, Kmart, Target, and Duane Reade.

I applied the NYC HD Color Eye Shadow over Urban Decay Anti-aging Eye Primer. I tightlined with Stila Felt-tip Liquid Eyeliner in brown, NYX Wonder Pencil on my waterline and along my upper lash line, essence Felt-tip Eyeliner in a light/medium brown along my lower lashine, and CoverGirl Lashblast mascara in brown/black.  The wintry grey natural light makes my eyes look really blue…or is it the eye shadow, lol?

Thanks, NYC New York Color and Influenster, for a pretty holiday or everyday look!

The products in the VoxBox including NYC HD Color Trio were complimentary and they were sent to test and review. But all opinions are my own.

Yes, you can’t beat the $2.99 price! And I think it lasted so long because I used the great Urban Decay Anti-aging Eye Primer, gotta do a review of that one, lol

  3. I live in Urbana Illinois and I’ve looked everywhere for the nyc trio color Long Beach sands and can’t find it anywhere any suggestions?

    1. As far as I know, Misty, the brand NYC is discontinued. I wrote that review a looooong time ago. So sorry! Isn’t awful when a product you love disappears forever?
