Old and New Friends from Curel Body Lotion

If you have super dry skin like me, you need to know about these affordable yet powerful body lotions from the drugstore from Curel, a brand recommended by dermatologists.

Curel often uses ceramides in their lotions like the two I’m talking about today. Ceramides, ingredients that you expect to find only in expensive department-store brands, are part of the fatty layer of cell membranes. They are the main component of the stratum corneum of the epidermis. As we get older, there’s a decline in ceramides and also cholesterol in the stratum corneum, and adding these two ingredients can help skin maintain moisture better. Both of the following Curel lotions contain those important skin ingredients.

Curel Ultra Healing

For ages, my go-to body lotion was Curel Ultra Healing for Extra Dry Skin. In fact, I used up a big bottle just a few months ago. Thank you, Curel, for sending me another!

If you have very dry skin, I can’t recommend this affordable, supremely effective body lotion more strongly. It’s called a “lotion” but it’s a thick one. Yet, it’s a cinch to apply and it’s greaseless.

Although the bottle I have does not say unscented, it has a very faint neutral scent. To be honest, without sticking my nose in it, I can’t smell it.

Ultra Healing is described as an “intensive lotion for extra-dry, tight skin”. The bottle goes on to say that it “helps repair extra-dry skin 2x better”. I’d say it provides excellent results, period.

Curel Ultra Healing hydrates and seems to seal-in the moisture with a protective coating that lasts me at least 24 hours. IMO, Curel Ultra Healing is the best body moisturizer in the drugstore!

Furthermore, for my money, Curel is a bargain for extra-dry skin like mine. It comes in a variety of sizes from travel size to the biggest size at 20 fl. oz. My bottle is 13 fl. oz. and it’s priced around $6.99.

Curel Hydratherapy Wet Skin Moisturizer

Recently, Curel jumped on the bandwagon and introduced Hydratherapy Wet Skin Moisturizer. The rationale is that applying moisturizer over wet, water-hydrated skin will seal in the moisture.

The bottle lists its benefits right up front:

  • water-activated moisture works deep into skin’s surface
  • helps repair moisture barrier with Ceramide Complex
  • immediately absorbs and completely greaseless.

You can apply it while you’re still in the shower if you like. I think it is a little looser/more watery (though not really watery) than the Curel Ultra Healing.

Sometimes if my skin is very wet, I will towel dry lightly before applying. The thickish lotion has a lot of slip to it so it glides onto skin to seal in the moisture. If I haven’t towel dried at all first, I’ll towel dry gently afterwards. It absorbs almost immediately, and it truly is completely greaseless.

It has a very light sweet scent that disappears right away so it doesn’t interfere with any fragrance you may wish to wear.

I’m kind of old school but I have had a somewhat difficult time getting used to applying Hydratherapy while I’m still wet, so truth be told I sometimes cheat and apply it after drying myself off. It seems to work for me either way 😉

Curel Hydratherapy Wet Moisturizer is a little more expensive, around $11.99 for 8 fl. oz.

Final Thoughts

I have about a million body lotions and body butters. When my skin is at it’s driest, I reach for Curel. It’s amazingly great stuff!

Have you tried any Curel body lotions? Have you tried any of the wet skin moisturizers? What did you think?

    1. I think you’d like the Curel Hydratherapy Wet Moisturizer. It leaves my skin feeling like silk!

  20. Most part of the year I do have dry skin and find cocoa shea butter to work best for me. However, for summers, Curel Hydratherapy Wet Skin Moisturizer seems like a good option

    1. Shea butter is wonderful but it leaves my skin greasy so I can’t use it for all occasions. So I often have body butters that include shea butter plus I have these other products for when my skin is seriously dry since some of their ingredients do a better job for me. It’s great that we have so many options to choose from

  21. I’ve never tried their lotions, and my skin gets so dry during the winter months that this could be a great option. I’m still not so sure about the wet lotions, but the dry skin version is definitely going on my list.
