Olive & June Quick Dry Polish

New Quick Dry Polish Collection

A few months ago, Olive & June launched their new Quick Dry collection. The polishes were said to dry in about a minute. Presently, there are 19 polishes in the collection, and they have a Quick Dry Top Coat that goes along with the polishes.

Based on a study with 150 testers, the Quick Dry polishes are supposed to last 45% longer with 60% more shine than competitors.

The bottles have the fabulous easy-to-use, wide, fan-shaped brush that the regular polishes have.

The Quick Dry polishes are smaller than the regular polishes but larger than the minis. Each Quick Dry polish contains 0.3 fl. oz./9 ml and is priced at $7.50. (The regular polishes contain 0.46 fl. oz./13.3 ml and are priced at $9.00.)

The polishes are 15-free: Formaldehyde, Toulene, DBP, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, Ethyl Tosylamide, Xylene, Triphenyl Phosphate (TPHP), Acetone, Animal-Derived Ingredients, Bisphenol-A, Nonylphenol Ethoxylate, Parabens, Sulfate. They’re also vegan and cruelty-free.

My Experiences with Quick Dry

Vintage & Prairie

Even though I had no problems with Olive & June regular polish and I found that they dried very quickly compared to other brands, I wanted to try new Quick Dry. I bought two shades, Prairie, a muted/greyed lavender, and Vintage, “vintage denim blue” or a greyed/faded light blue. I love the colors of both shades. I decided not to buy the Quick Dry Top Coat but instead use the regular top coat.

A few days ago, I reached into my Olive & June polish bag and I came out with Prairie. I had forgotten that that was the one I tried when I first bought them back in November. If I had realized that, I would have searched for Vintage to try it out.

First, I applied Olive & June Nail Strengthener like I always do, and I let it dry for a few minutes.

So, how did Quick Dry compare with the regular Olive & June polish? Prairie took 2-3 coats of polish to look opaque. That’s pretty much like the lighter shades of the regular polish where some are opaque in two coats and others, particularly the lighter shades, take three. I let the first coat dry for a minute or so before applying the second coat, which is pretty much what I do with the regular polish.

After applying the second and/or third coat, I guess I let the polish dry for a minute or so. I screwed up my “experiment” because I didn’t buy the Quick Dry Top Coat and I had to use the regular. I applied the Super Glossy Top Coat over the Quick Dry polish, and it went on fine. I let it dry for a few minutes, like maybe 3 minutes, and then I applied the Dry Drops over it.

Prairie

Because I did a hybrid version with the regular top coat and the Dry Drops, I guess I didn’t really get to see how the Quick Dry would work on its own. Nevertheless, the entire process took me about 15 minutes or less. To be honest, the one minute drying time of Quick Dry wasn’t all that much shorter than the regular polish.

In terms of lastingness, Prairie (at least with the Super Glossy Top Coat) doesn’t last as long as the regular polish. Prairie lasted about 4-5 days vs. a week or so with the regular polish. I think in the future I will most likely stick to the Olive & June regular polish because being long lasting is more important to me than a minute or two.

Have you tried Olive & June’s Quick Dry polish yet? If so, what did you think?

  1. I have their regular polishes but haven’t tried quick dry. I too, also prefer long lasting formulas because of chalk and lifting and I chip too easily. How do you like the dry drops? Do you feel it helps at all?

    1. Yes, the Dry Drops are definitely worth it!!

I’m wearing a spring color today that is lighter in shade and I needed 3 coats to make sure it was opaque. I like the color you’re wearing.
