Oops, Melt Metal Lipgloss Shade Evoke

I Bought This - Affiliate links

After I figured out how to keep Melt Metal Gloss in the gorgeous rose gold shade, Séance (reviewed here), from straying from my lips with MAC Prep + Prime Lip Base (reviewed here), I decided to buy another Metal Gloss when Melt had a “reopening” sale recently. It was a good sale. The regular price is $16, and I think the sale price was $10 with free delivery.

I looked at the 8 shades (7 without Séance that I already own), and I had a tough time choosing between Evoke and Trance. You might have thought that I would just buy both, but at $10 each, I thought one was enough. From the lip swatches on the website, Evoke looked like a deep copper and Trance looked like a deep ruby. I chose Evoke because I thought it would look good with my “normal” copper (not faded) hair color.

Evoke arrived in the mail this week. I eagerly opened the box, grabbed the tube, ran for my mirror, and applied it.

Then, I gasped. Oops. In person, Evoke did not look like copper. It doesn’t look like it does in the lip swatch on the website, not at all. It looks brown.

If I had seen the shade in a store, there is no way I would have bought it. Truth be told, it is a coppery brown, but it’s much, much more brown than copper.

My hair has faded to almost blonde, or at least strawberry blonde, until I get a chance to re-color it. So the disparity between the dark brown shade and my light hair is not a particularly good look. Maybe when my hair is back to closer to its normal shade, it might work. Maybe in the autumn or winter, it might work. But now, not so much. It doesn’t make sense to return it because it would cost as much as I paid for it to send it back. Oh well. Maybe I can mix it with something?

Nevertheless, I love the formula of Melt Metal Gloss. It is so opaque, creamy and glossy. It’s so hydrating and comfortable to wear. Yet, over time, it dries down a bit so it’s not sticky. In fact, I put it on today and then I had to leave the house for a contactless pickup for which I still needed to wear a mask. I thought maybe I should remove my lipgloss before I put on the mask, but I didn’t have time. I put on the mask, and to my surprise, when I removed it, no mess, not even a stain. I love this formula!

Plus Evoke is so long wearing. Over many hours or after eating, it fades a bit, but it stains my lips. In fact, I did a swatch of Evoke on my arm. I tried to remove it with micellar water, and it didn’t budge.

Thankfully, it did come off with soap and water. This stuff is amazing.

Since I was so disappointed in the color of Evoke, I decided to take a peek at the Melt Cosmetics website, and sure enough, the Metal Glosses were on sale, this time, for $5 with free shipping. I bought Trance. It hasn’t arrived yet, but I truly hope that this shade will be the gorgeous ruby red shade as the photo on the website.

Fingers crossed!

So bummed! Went to check the website out but no longer on sale. Let me know how the new shade looks.

    1. Oh, boo! That $5 sale was almost too good to be true. I have my fingers crossed that Trance doesn’t turn out to be blackened red or something equally unwearable 😉 I’ll let you know!
