OPI Infinite Shine 2 Fan Faves: Grand Canyon Sunset

The OPI Infinite Shine 2 collection is supposed to be a long-wearing, super shiny set of polishes. Infinite Shine 2 has a base coat and a topcoat as part of the collection. Infinite Shine 2 is supposed to be super shiny and is supposed to last 11 days.

Several weeks ago, I noticed (probably on Facebook) that OPI was bringing back 9 shades that were discontinued. They were labeled “fan favorites”. And when I went through the list of shades, I noticed two of my own former faves: Japanese Rose Garden and Señorita Rose-alita. The rest of the shades that have been resuscitated include Hong Kong Sunrise, Mrs. O’Leary’s BBQ, Vodka & Caviar, Smok’n In Havana, Peru-B-Ruby, and Deer Valley Spice.

But rather than get one of my own faves, I decided to try a shade I hadn’t tried before: Grand Canyon Sunset. Although the photo below isn’t a sunset – I took it during the afternoon at Grand Canyon, but the colors were spectacular and I hoped the polish would remind me of our visit.

I ordered the polish on Amazon, and it took almost a month for me to get the polish. What happened was I placed the order, and Amazon said it would be delivered when it became available. Odd. I recently noticed that the OPI Fan Faves are also sold on Ulta.com, but Grand Canyon Sunset and three other shades are already out of stock.

I didn’t use the OPI Infinite Shine 2 Primer (base coat) or Gloss (Topcoat). Instead, I used Morgan Taylor React Base Coat and Zoya Armor Topcoat because I already own them. I don’t know if I would have had better wear if I used the products that are part of the “system” – OPI claims that I would have.

The directions say to apply two thin coats, but the polish was a little thicker than I thought it would be. So they weren’t thin coats, but the polish still applied nicely. In fact, after 1 coat, I almost could have stopped. But I applied a second coat. I usually do my nails before bed so I don’t mess them up, but this time I applied the polish in the morning. Although I tried to just sit there and not do anything, I screwed up and I had to redo one of my nails and correct some nicks that I got. Bad Allison. Nevertheless, my nails looked good IMHO.

One thing that was weird is that some of the pink color transferred onto the topcoat white brush and into the topcoat. I guess I didn’t let it dry enough. Again, my bad.

But the shine really is admirable. And I love the shade I bought, Grand Canyon Sunset, a deep almost plummy cool-toned pink. So pretty.

In the bright sun, it looks like a much different, warmer-toned shade especially in photos. Here it is in the sun before I cleaned up my skin around the nails, just so you can see the shade difference. It looks like a completely different polish!

I know that the polish won’t last for 11 days for me because absolutely nothing does other than a professional gel mani. Frankly, I’ll be lucky if it lasts 5 days without chipping because I always have my hands in water. After a couple of days, I have a little tip wear as I do with just about every polish except for the discontinued Formula X from Sephora.

At any rate, I love this shade, Grand Canyon Sunset, and the formula with its lovely shine is a good one.

The OPI Infinite Shine Fan Favorites are only available online at Ulta.com, some of the shades are available on Amazon, and I discovered that Japanese Rose Garden is at select Target stores. I found a few bottles of Grand Canyon Sunset at Walmart.com. OPI made a limited number of each of the Fan Fave shades, but most of them can be found. The prices vary according to where you buy them though the MSRP is $12.50 for 15 ml/0.5 oz.

When I was checking Amazon for various Fan Fave shades, I discovered there is a 5 pack of minis for $24.95 that includes three shades (Mrs. O’Leary’s BBQ – deep red, Grand Canyon Sunset – pink, and Deer Valley Spice – coral) plus the Primer and Gloss. If I had known, I would have bought the 5 pack of minis instead of the solo bottle for $12.50. Oh well.

That’s a gorgeous shade! Bummer to know it took long for your nail polish to get delivered. I hate when stuff like that happens

    1. I think there was something weird going on with the shipping everywhere on this run of former fan faves. It was OK. I wish it wore longer, but then I wish I had bought the mini kit with the Primer and Gloss to see if that would have made a difference. I adore the shade though

  3. Deer Valley Spice is back!! OMG I need to buy that. It was a long ago favorite and I’ve been wanting a new red polish. The shade you bought is so perfect for you.

  7. WHY DID they discontinue Formula X?!? That also was the one that lasted the longest on me! I do love this shade though!

    1. I wish Sephora had just sold the Formula X formula to another brand! It was the best

  8. That’s a gorgeous shade. It reminds me of the red earth, around here.

  10. Such a gorgeous shade! I’ve found this range really does last a bit longer, and I find everything chips easily on my nails.

  11. I actually don’t have any of the OPI Infinite Shine polishes, this one looks really pretty though. I do my nails based around YouTube videos. I put on a base coat, watch a video, put on first coat of polish, watch a video, put on a second coat, watch a video, put on the top coat, watch a video. If I need to do anything I try to time it between the video watch and the first coat or the video watch and the second coat so that the second coat will cover any mistakes that happen if it happens to still be a bit tacky. 🙂

    1. That sounds like a good system for you!
