Orange Is Having A Moment

Watching the judging of the Working Group in the Westminster Dog Show this evening, I noticed that a female judge and two of the handlers were wearing orange outfits. I must have gotten the memo subconsciously today because I wore orange, too.

Jeff and I went to a Tea & Sympathy surprise birthday tea party for my long time friend, Fintan, who was 50 today. To me, 50 sounds young, but I guess it’s all relative. 😉 I went shopping in my closet for something to wear. It was warm, in the high 70s (perfect, really) and sunny. But it was an indoor party, and I wasn’t sure if it would be chilly from air conditioning, so I didn’t want to be chilly.

Because my hair fades so much during the summer and becomes a shade of orange, I figure I may as well celebrate the orange. I sought out my lightweight orange and cream ikat pin tucked tunic from brand VanessaVirginia. I don’t remember where I bought it, but it’s one of my favorites to wear at the beginning and at the end of the summer. I considered wearing blue jeans, but I decided to go with a pair of ankle length orange-yellow jeans style cotton pants from Chaus. Same thing, I have had them for so long, I can’t remember where I bought them. I wore my very comfy Steve Madden platform rope sandals with ankle straps that look good with cropped ankle pants and make me about 3 inches taller. 🙂

For accessories, I chose a multi-colored leather crossbody (originally reviewed here) with a wide stripe of orange that I bought at Twinkle, a boutique in Savannah when Jeff and I visited three years ago. If these aren’t your colors, click here at Museum Outlets for many other color ways and styles. I wore a silver handmade bracelet made of different size circles from James Russell Metalsmiths in Rockport MA, and handmade triple circular dangling silver hoop earrings with orange, seafood green, deep red, and deep blue enamel accents designed by Ann Carol Designs, purchased at Annie’s in Newburyport MA.

For eye makeup, I went back to my new ColourPop Lust for Dusk coolish-toned palette, choosing Horizon (browned-peach) on the lid, milk chocolate Hot Glam in the crease and V with a little Quiet Storm, rose gold dusted over the middle of my lid, all applied over Urban Decay Anti-aging Primer Potion. I used my new favorite grey pencil liner from Surratt to line my lower lash line. For some reason, I decided to line my upper lash line with Araceli Ojos Perfectos Liquid Eyeliner in the deep brown-black shade Cafe. After not wearing much if any makeup for so long, the dark liquid liner seem to be a little too much, but I didn’t have time to take everything off and start again. My mascara du jour is Milk Makeup Kush Mascara. I wore Smith & Cult Veiled Threat Weightless Micro-blurring Foundation in shade 180-Cool over Tatcha Silk Canvas Liquid Primer (20% off sale now at Tatcha.com with code SUMMER21). (I love this lightweight but almost full coverage foundation!) For blush, I chose my longtime favorite Youngblood Luminous Creme Blush in the shade, Tropical Glow, an extremely long-wearing peach-copper shade. I’m sad to learn that Youngblood discontinued this fabulous creme blush. Boo.

My lipstick was super lightweight, but uber moisturizing Revlon Ulta HD Gel Lipcolor in coral shade, Sunset.

We had a wonderful time at the party.

Fintan even seemed to appreciate my unusual gift, a game-changing Flex-Rake with curved metal tines that makes de-thatching and raking up moss in the lawn a breeze. My friend Sybille is a fabulous hostess, and William, Fintan’s husband, did an excellent job selecting the menu and the delicious, sophisticated strawberry shortcake called a Cloud Cake from the French-Asian bakery, Tous Les Jours. Yum! But the best part was that this was the first time we saw Fintan and William in person in more than a year. And we had so many laughs! So great to see our friends again!

So I was happy in my orange outfit, but with my orangey hair, it works. Do you or would you wear orange?

Today I am wearing a black halter dress with huge yellow & orange flowers on it and a reddish orange lipstick.

    1. Your summer dress sounds divine, Paula! Gimme all the florals 🙂 Coral lipsticks are my faves for summer too!

You looked fabulous! I loved your outfit, your bag and your makeup. I can’t wear true orange but I wear a lot of coral. Color is the best cosmetic, I think.

    1. Thank you, Denise! And I agree with you: color is the best cosmetic…and often, the best medicine for lifting my mood. Coral is such a fabulous summer shade. It is my go-to lipstick color for summer too 🙂

  3. Love your look Allison–outfit and makeup! I need to find that blush and lip gloss. Youngblood is hard to find here.

    1. I am so sad that Youngblood discontinued the creme blush. I was going to buy another one to have on hand because this one is 4 years old (but thankfully still usable). I haven’t seen any Youngblood cosmetics around here either, but you can buy it online. The lipgloss is Revlon Ultra HD Gel Lipstick. I haven’t looked for it in stores lately, but I know it is still sold online. I know you don’t need more lipstick, but this one is as light as a feather and feels so good on my lips.

Love the outfit the color and design on top perfect. I have so many of those clothes that I don’t remember where or when I got them.

    1. Thank you, Gloria! I have special clothes that I bought on vacation or on a business trip or for a special occasion…and those I do remember. But the stuff I wear all the time, it’s hard to keep track!

  6. Mary W says:

I would wear the top in a heart beat. Just my style! I have dark brunette hair and warm tones to my skin. I think shades of orange look good on me! I like wearing happy, bright colors because it makes me feel good. Otherwise, why bother?

    1. Yes, I agree! Color makes us smile. Even when I lived in NYC, I used to wear bright colors: red, teal, pink, purple when everyone else was wearing black all the time. I like black, but you are right: “happy, bright colors” make me feel good too! I’m glad you would and could give orange a go!

  7. You look stunning, Allison! Perfect colors, outfit and makeup!

    1. Thank you, Anastasia! The espadrille wedges are great because they give this shrimp an extra 3 inches of height 😉
