PAYOT Hydra 24+ Creme Glace: Iconic Skincare from Paris

Background and History

PAYOT Paris is a skincare brand that is not well-known in the U.S., but somehow I have known about it for a while though I’m not sure how. Since it is a big brand in France, perhaps I saw it in a store or saw one of their day spas. Now it is sold in more than 70 countries, on line, in department stores and pharmacies, and in the PAYOT day spas.

Here is how the PAYOT website summarized the founder and brand’s early history:

PAYOT is a cosmetic brand with an international reputation, born in 1920 of the extraordinary vision of one woman: Nadia Payot. Ahead of her time, she became one of the first female doctors. Involved in the women’s rights movement, Nadia Payot early on demonstrated her commitment to using her medical, scientific and herbal expertise in the skincare products she developed.

Here are a few more interesting historic tidbits about the founder and her brand:

Nadia Payot invented a 42 Movement Massage set of facial exercises that she invented after meeting prima ballerina, Anna Pavlova. The 42 Movement Massage is still performed today at the PAYOT day spas.

OMG, you must must must check out this adorable video from PAYOT that demonstrates how to do 11 of the movements. It is so darn cute! I need to pause the video, and try to figure out how to do them 🙂

Nadia Payot opened the first Paris Beauty Institute on rue Richepanse in 1925.

Many of their contemporary jars still sport the iconic feminine shape with a “waist” of the original jar:

An original form that has evolved and adapted over time, maintaining a fully contemporary style. PAYOT has created a truly timeless jar that is recognisable to all. This jar with its contoured, ultra-feminine form has evolved over time, by moving toward colourful or silver lids, as well as bottles.

PAYOT Hydra 24+ Crème Glacé

Ipsy introduced me to PAYOT Hydra 24+ Crème Glacé, as it was one of the optional add-on products for February. I think I paid $18 for the full size jar, a substantial reduction in price. I am a sucker for French skincare, probably because French skincare was considered the gold standard during my youth. In spite of Korean and Japanese skincare getting all the attention these days, I still think French skincare is pretty great.

The Crème Glacé is part of the Hydra 24+ skincare collection that is based on the pretty blue cornflower. Here’s a PAYOT ad that for the Hydra 24+ Essence that I would like to try:

The Hydra 24+ Crème Glacé is a daily, plumping moisturizer. PAYOT lists it in their collection of winter products, and that makes sense because it is an intensely rich moisturizer. But because it’s a gel-cream, it isn’t too heavy. The lovely pale green gel-cream has an almost liquidy feeling as it melts into the skin. It feels immediately hydrating and leaves my skin feeling silky and moisturized.

The key actives according to PAYOT are:

Fig + Watermelon + Red algae extract + H20 Patch: Not sure what that means!
Creatine
Vitamin C and E
Anti-pollution active

I would say that the rich hydration and the slight plumping is due to the shea butter, glycerin and hyaluronic acid, among other ingredients. It is recommended for dry and/or dehydrated skin. I use it at night, and it’s a perfect wintertime night cream for me.

Because this is a French skincare product, it has a light floral scent that disappears once it’s on my skin. In addition to fragrance, the French also seem to like colored skincare. Thus, the pale green color.

The heavy glass jar contains 1.6 fl. oz./50 ml and is priced at $48. At $18 (I think) that I paid, it’s a good deal. It can be purchased on Ipsy for Ipsy members, on the PAYOT website, and Amazon.  I’m sure I will check out some other PAYOT products in the future.

  2. I am not familiar with Payot, but what I love about it is that it was founded by a woman. I really like the packaging too! Cool sleek jar!

    1. Yes, how cool that Payot was a feminist, physician, herbalist etc!

  3. I’m pretty sure I saw this brand when I was in France. I can’t think of where I’ve seen it in the US though.

    1. I’m sure that I saw Payot in Paris. It isn’t available in any stores here, to the best of my knowledge.

  4. Okay, now I KNOW I need ipsy because I have the Hydra 24+ Essence and I like it but it absolutely is only step 1 in skincare – I have to have a moisturizer afterwards or my skin gets angry. This product makes perfect sense to work after the Essence!

    1. Do you like the Payot Hydra 24 Essence? I was thinking of buying it when I finish up my unaffordable SK-II Essence

I’ve heard of this brand and have wanted to try them. Now I want to more than ever!!!

Trying new skincare products at a deep discount is probably my favorite thing about being an Ipsy subscriber! I wouldn’t have spent $48 to try this new-to-me anti-aging cream, but at $18, it is more than worth it.

      1. Gabrielle says:

I couldn’t find it on Ipsy. *sobs brokenly*

        1. you’re right. It must be sold out on Ipsy. Someone is selling a new in box one on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/303666061411?mkevt=1&mkcid=28&chn=ps They get 100% seller review, but they are charging $5 for delivery. This is an excellent rich cream for my dry skin, but I am guessing you have a million night creams in your stash, amirite???

          1. Gabrielle says:

Actually, I’m long on day creams and serums, but short on night creams. Hmmm…

  7. In that case, it may be worth it. I paid $18 so $2 more isn’t bad. It has a light fragrance that dispears
