Perfect Antidote for Dry Skin, Dior Cica Repair Balm

I finally got back into Influenster’s good graces, because I received one of their coveted VoxBoxs! And it was a very good one: Dior Cica Recover & Repair Balm.

Although I have used Dior makeup over the years, I have never tried any of their skincare products. I guess because I associate Dior with fashion and design, using their makeup/color cosmetics always made perfect sense to me. But their skincare products just weren’t on my radar. So I am grateful to have the opportunity to try out Dior Cica Recover & Repair Balm.

What Is Dior Cica Recover & Repair Balm?

Here’s Dior’s description of the Balm:

The 1st (Dior) regenerating, enveloping multi-use balm that promotes the skin’s natural revitalization cycle. Dior Cica Recover Balm enables the rapid revitalization of the most fragile and sensitive areas of the skin, while offering an intense soothing and comforting sensation.

REVITALIZES. The skin appears revitalized in just 72 hours (based on a small-scale research study), thanks to Cica Recover Balm’s recovery complex with chamomile and centella asiatica extract.

SOOTHES. An emulsion with an instantly refreshing, relaxing effect. The Cica Recover Balm relieves and soothes feelings of discomfort in the skin.

RESPECTS. Formulated without synthetic fragrances and with 91% natural-origin ingredients, the pH-balancing Cica Recover Balm is suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive.

How Do I Use Dior Cica Balm?

In my usual way, I didn’t read about it first. To me, it looked like a face balm, and that’s how I wanted to use it. Even though the past two days have been unseasonably warm north of Boston, it’s still winter and the temperatures have been cold and the wind has been strong. The perfect time for a facial skincare balm.

I wore it over sunscreen when I went snowshoeing about 10 days ago. Instead of ending up with a parched, dry face, it felt as if I had a protective shield on my skin. I only wish this tube of facial goodness arrived earlier this winter!

Another way that I use Dior Cica Balm is to protect my skin at night from dry indoor air from radiators. After Jeff got home from the hospital, I stayed with him at his place to make sure he was on the mend. The house he lives in was built in the early 20th century, and it is heated with radiators. The air is desert-dry. The humidifier that I got from the Buy Nothing group a couple of years ago didn’t want to cooperate. After the first night sleeping there with no humidifier, my face was so dry and wrinkly that the skin actually hurt. I decided to try wearing Dior Cica Balm at night, and it solved the problem!

Other Ways Dior Cica Balm Can Be Used

Dior Cica Recover & Repair Balm can be used on the face or body. The rich white cream is also perfect for dry elbows, heels or any patch of rough or dry skin. But truth be told, at $60 for a 2.5 fl. oz./75 m tube, I’m using it only on my face! To me, it is has a very light, almost imperceptible scent that I cannot smell at all when it’s applied.

It can be used:

  • daily as a moisturizer for dry skin and to aid skin recovery
  • twice a week as a revitalizing face mask: apply a thin layer of Dior Balm, leave it on for 10 minutes, and either massage it into the skin or remove it with a cotton pad
  • as targeted skincare to specific areas on the face or body that need extra care.

As well as using it in cold, dry climates, I am sure it would work just as well in hot, dry climates and during the summer after a day in the sun.

Key Ingredients

Another benefit is that Dior Cica Balm has a pH very close to that of skin itself. And it is perfect for all skin types including sensitive skin.

As you can tell, I am delighted by Dior Cica Recover & Repair Balm. In fact, I’m going hiking on this cold, windy afternoon, and I will be applying it over my sunscreen. Love it!

Now, my only question is what is “Cica”? Here’s the answer:

The botanical cica complex combines chamomile wax and centella asiatica.

Chamomile wax is extracted from wild chamomile flowers in Morocco, and helps improve skin emollience and limit water loss for a long-lasting hydrating effect that protects the surface of the skin. Known for its soothing properties, it helps calm feelings of discomfort in fragile or irritated skin.

Centella asiatica, better known as tiger grass or cica for short, is an herb renowned for its ability to support skin revitalization.

In addition, the balm contains hyaluronic acid and shea butter. Here’s the complete ingredient list:

#15402 AQUA (WATER) ● GLYCERIN ● ETHYLHEXYL PALMITATE ● BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER ● PROPANEDIOL ● BUTYLENE GLYCOL ● CETYL ALCOHOL ● PENTYLENE GLYCOL ● STEARYL ALCOHOL ● TRITICUM VULGARE (WHEAT) GERM OIL ● DIMETHICONE ● GLYCERYL STEARATE ● PEG-100 STEARATE ● SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) SEED OIL ● CENTELLA ASIATICA LEAF EXTRACT ● STEARYL GLYCYRRHETINATE ● ORMENIS MULTICAULIS FLOWER WAX ● SODIUM HYALURONATE ● PRUNUS AMYGDALUS DULCIS (SWEET ALMOND) OIL ● CHLORPHENESIN ● LAURETH-7 ● SODIUM HYDROXIDE ● TOCOPHEROL ● POLYACRYLAMIDE ● C13-14 ISOPARAFFIN ● CARBOMER

  2. Great ingredients but in general I’m cautious about the fragrance of Dior. My sister worked at the counter at Nordstrom for a while and I’d go in for a makeup session (pre-Covid) so she tried a lot of the skincare on me. I’d buy makeup though which is no surprise.

    1. I know what you mean about being cautious about possible fragrance in Dior skincare. I was expecting it to have a strong fragrance like Lancome skincare and Chanel always did, but surprisingly, there’s no discernible scent – yay! They must have listened to American women who dislike fragrance in facial skincare products.
