Pilfered Beauty Tip: An Easy Way to Apply Liquid Eyeliner

OK, I have to come clean. I didn’t come up with this idea myself. Not at all.

Yesterday, I visited a bunch of beauty blogs, and I read a post about an easier way to apply liquid eyeliner from Gio, a European beauty blogger at BeautifulwithBrains. Thank you, oh wise beauty blogger, for sharing this tip with me!

In November, CVS was having a 30% off promo, and I made quite a haul if I remember correctly. Wet ‘N Wild was on sale, and with the 30% off, I think I paid a dollar for the Mega Liner liquid eyeliner in dark brown, shade 868.

It comes with a tiny brush applicator that I thought would be easy to use. Wrong. I made a mess. Couldn’t get a thin, straight line at all. I tried a few times and gave up. I don’t think it had anything to do with the Wet ‘N Wild product, but with my limited skills. So I paid $22 for a Stila felt tipped dark brown liner instead.

Gio suggested that you take your favorite eyeliner brush — in my case, a slant tipped brush — and pick up some liquid eyeliner from the original brush and apply it as you would gel liner.

What a revelation! So much easier to apply. I did it. Now I don’t have to toss that cheapie Wet ‘N Wild Mega Liner liquid eyeliner.

So if you have a tough time applying a liquid eyeliner that you bought and don’t use for that reason, give this a try! And let me know if it worked for you. 🙂

  1. Allison, I will certainly give this suggestion a try!!! It’s been years now that I can’t draw the perfect straight line on my lids as, with time passing by, they have – little by little – “relaxed”. In the week end I’ll be out at a party and doing my make up I’ll take my time to try this (apparently) simple system to gain the always pretty look a good eyeliner does on an (ex) girl eyes. Thanks for sharing this, your blog is always interesting and useful.

I hope it’ll work for you, Anna! I love your comment about “relaxed” eyes. I certainly have them, too! And thank you for your great comment 🙂

  2. Thank you for the mention! I’m glad you found this trick useful. 🙂

I was awful at applying liquid eyeliner before I discovered this trick too. Using your own brush just makes it so much easier!

Thanks again, gio, for your super helpful idea. It’s made a real difference for me!

  3. Luckily, I do well with either a brush or the felt tip applicator. However, Milani Infinite Liquid Eyeliner is thick (and stays on through EVERYTHING) and no one can put it on with the brush it comes with. I definitely love using this tip with that liner. So thank you for sharing my little pilfering friend! Looking Fab as always!

You’re the best Shalunya 😀 That’s so interesting about the Milani Infinite Liquid Eyeliner brush not being up to the job. Have you emailed the company about that? Not good that they’re got a great formula but an inadequate brush. I’m jealous that you can handle both the brush and the felt tip! I’ve gotta practice 😉

  4. Gio is one smart lady! Reason why I love her so much and I’m glad to call her my buddy! Still, even with that trick, which I’ve used on clients in the past by the way, on me I just can’t seem to be able to master it! I firmly believe I’m liquid eye liner impared! No joke! 🙁

Yes, I was so happy to discover Gio and her blog on your site! Helene, I didn’t know that you are an MUA. But you’re right, liquid eyeliner is a challenge. I am in awe of the winged liner on so many teens that’s applied so perfectly. Wish I had learned. Gio’s tip with the slanted brush makes it so much easier for me, thankfully!
