Pili Ani Moisturizing Tinted Lip Butters

In my Coming Attractions post from last week, I mentioned that I have been trying Pili Ani Moisturizing Tinted Pili Lip Butters.

Before I get into it, here’s some background on the Pili Ani and its oils.

Pili Tree and Oil

Pili is an evergreen tree, Canarium ovatum, found in the Philippines whose fruit and nut is the source of a powerful anti-aging oil called Pili oil. Loaded with the antioxidant vitamin E as well as essential fatty acids, Pili oil rejuvenates, revitalizes and reinvigorates skin. Pili oil is able to deeply penetrate the skin’s layers, nourishing and soothing skin.

The founders of Pili Ani, Rosalina and Mary Jane, a mother-daughter duo, ran clinical trials on Pili oil in order to establish its efficacy. Because it turned out to be as effective as they thought, they started a pili farm in the Philippines that educates and employs local farmers in order to help them support their families while sustaining the pili forest.

Elemi Oil

While researching Pili oil, Rosalina discovered that a well-known French beauty company was sourcing another oil from the local forests. Elemi oil is extracted from the sap from the bark of a related tree, Canarium luzonicum or the tall evergreen Elemi tree.

Elemi oil is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antimicrobial. It tones, firms, smooths fine lines, and also helps fight acne-causing bacteria.

Their tree farm in the Philippines is the source of both Pili and Elemi oils. And the Pili Ani company controls the entire process from “farm to face”, as Rosalina and Mary Jane like to say.

Pili Ani Moisturizing Tinted Pili Lip Butter

Pili Ani has two versions of Moisturizing Lip Butter:

If you follow Never Say Die Beauty, you may remember that mint in lip balm is a no-no for me. It actually burns my lips. So I passed on the mint.

Moisturizing Tinted Lip Butter Shades

Fortunately, Pili Ani makes 4 gorgeous shades of Moisturizing Tinted Pili Lip Butter. They were kind enough to send me:

  • Barely Red
  • Chocolat.

The other two shades are Barely There and Berry.

Pili Ani says that their Tinted Lip Butters “give greater color pay-off than a typical lip balm”. They weren’t kidding! These are the most pigmented lip balms I have ever used!

I was blown away to discover how long the color lasts. If I don’t eat or drink, the color stays on for a good 5 hours. And though there is some fading over time, my lips always retain some color. Usually a highly pigmented lipstick can irritate my lips, but not with Pili Ani Lip Butters.

Because I adore red lipstick, not surprisingly, Barely Red is my fave. It’s a semi-sheer red that makes it completely wearable as an everyday lip balm here in the ‘burbs north of Boston.

Chocolat is a beautiful neutral that’s also a terrific choice for everyday when I’m not in a red mood. I love ’em both!

Moisturizing Tinted Lip Butter Ingredients & Benefits

The Lip Butters contain both:

  • Pili Butter – a special blend of select proprietary ingredients. Pili butter is churned and mixed with Pili oil resulting in a creamier texture and velvety finish. It’s formulated to nourish lips and lock-in moisture.

  • Elemi Oil – Elemi oil rejuvenates and restores delicate lips.

The benefits of these beauties include:

  • Rich in vitamin E, carotenoids and antioxidants
  • Nourishes lips to make them appear soft and plump
  • Deeply moisturizes lips with a noticeable pop of color
  • Smooths cracked, flaky lips
  • Helps reduce appearance of fine lines
  • Velvety texture makes application smoother
  • Multitaskers that may be used on cheeks.

Pili Ani Moisturizing Tinted Pili Lip Butters are cruelty-free, fair-trade, made from all natural ingredients, and non-comedogenic. They come in attractive, slim blue twist up tubes. They’re priced at $20 each and sold on the Pili Ani website.

  1. Wow, Allison, what a fine product and natural too! I’m so happy to learn about this. Higher prices are worth it when you get this many benefits and a beautiful look that’s good for you. I would love to try this. Thanks! – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

    1. Pili Ani is an interesting brand. The exotic packaging of the anti-aging moisturizer that I tried a couple of years ago as well as the product formula that really suited my skin hooked me in. Plus the story behind the pili tree, the pili farmers, and the benefits of the pili and elemi oils are truly intriguing.

  2. Gosh, I havent seen Pili Ani in a while! I remember their skincare packaging being unique and beautiful. They didn’t have lip balms when I tried their skincare. These look nice. I think I’d prefer some more pink/nude shades and agreed on the mint. i wish it wasn’t used so widely. I love the scent but it can burn my lips more often than not.

    1. You remember Pili Ani’s skincare packaging correctly, Claudia! I tried one of the anti-aging moisturizers, and the purple and gold jar was stunning. I liked the formula, too. I’m surprised that Pili Ani doesn’t have a pink shade as well as a clear without mint. Maybe I’ll mention to their PR folks. The shade Chocolat might be a nude on some people, but not on everyone. I looked at the ingredients on the Mint Lip Butter, and it’s spearmint rather than my dreaded peppermint. Nevertheless, I would still be afraid to try the spearmint on a pricey Lip Butter like these.

    1. These Lip Butters really are winners for me because I tend to go for strong colors. But I am a little surprised they don’t have a pink and a clear (without mint) for people who prefer light shades.
