The September Play! by Sephora Bag was a good one, and October 2017 even better. Sephora had broken a string of meh monthly bags.
November 2017, IMHO, brings me back to another meh bag. Though there are a couple of things I like and I’m glad I got to try, they’re nothing to shout from the mountaintops about.
I’m never sure of the theme since Sephora Play always seems to have two of them. The tagline on the white cotton bag this month is, “It’s Me O’clock”.
Here’s what came in my bag:
- Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara
- Caudalie Vinosource S.O.S. Thirst Quenching Serum
- Sephora Ultra Shine Lip Gel, Perfect Nude
- Origins Clear Improvements Active Charcoal Masque to Clear Pores
- MoroccanOil Treatment Oil
- My Burberry, Blush EDP
I can’t say I was truly excited about anything in this bag. I am glad to get the Marc Jacobs Major Volume Mascara, though I probably have about a million mascaras waiting in the wings. I like Caudalie skincare, and I can always use a travel size tube of a skin hydrating serum. I have a ton of hair oil, but I like the MoroccanOil scent so that’s nice. I have no use for a charcoal mask. What I ended up liking the most so far is the Sephora Ultra Shine Lip Gel, a wonderful lipgloss that makes my dry lips feel terrific. It has a caramel scent, but it goes away once it’s on my lips. As usual, the perfume sample doesn’t suit me.
I am beginning to want to ditch Sephora Play and subscribe to Boxycharm, but Boxycharm is $20/month so I would have to ditch Ipsy too, and I still like Ipsy. What to do? Guess I’ll see what’s in this month’s Ipsy bag 🙂

You already know I am a huge fan of the MJ mascara and I hope you love it too! I ditched ipsy and now am with BoxyCharm and LookFantastic and I couldn’t be any happier!

I was tempted to get the Advent Calendar but it was either that and then only buy half the shitz that I wanted from Sephora sale or pick up everything that I wanted from the sale so obviously I chose Sephora. Hahaha!

I’m headed to Sephora now. Surprisingly, there’s not much on my list. I’m just not in the mood right now – how weird. I wish they carried BioDerma.
Hi Allison.Sorry you got a meh bag , I got the same exact one and was disappointed as well. For me I was glad to try the Marc Jacobs mascara,even though I also have many mascars minis and full sizes.It’s been many months since I purchased a mascara,lol.Over the past few months I’ve been eyeing Boxycharm but , like you mentioned , it’s $20 and I know Sephora and Ipsy have some really good come back bags and I’m always hopeful around the holidays that we’ll get a treat. I’ll have to try the lip gloss,I really didn’t give it a second look and I can always use a spare serum but overall ….MEH… Have a great day. Glad I wasn’t the only one, Laura, who was underwhelmed this month. But you’re right, the December bags usually are good ones and often have something extra so I’ll wait till January to decide. I forgot that you can get a single box for Boxycharm – maybe I’ll do that too, though at this point, I will have to move out of my house coz I have so much makeup, skincare and haircare even with all the stuff I try to give away! DiEtta, I just went to the QVC website and looked at the Beauty Advent Calendar for 2017. You are so right: it’s a great one! It’s marked down to $63.96 plus 2% cash back from Ebates so it’s just about $60. I noticed that there’s a Mally shadow stick – that alone costs about $22. And there are a number of my favorites including a travel size StriVectin Neck Cream. And brands like Elemis, Nest perfume, Amazing Concealer, Nude Stick full size…I could go on. Very impressive! What a great gift it is!
Mine was exactly the same as yours this month. I was pleasantly surprised with the gloss. It’s a pretty sorta sexy nude. I also love the mascara.

I was definitely surprised at how much I like the Sephora lipgloss. Who woulda thunk it? I’m looking forward to trying the MJ mascara.
I can definitely understand why you feel as you do. Nothing is wrong with what you got, but somehow I would have hoped for an amazing selection given that we are in the holiday season!

I will really use only half of the items, but the Sephora gloss was a good surprise! Hopefully the holiday bag will be more exciting 🙂

I think I’ll keep Play through the December holiday bag, and then cancel. I’m hoping Boxycharm has short term subscriptions so I can try it out.
I tried that Marc Jacobs mascara when it first came out, major smudge issues!
Oh no, not smudges! I will give it a try and see what happens.
With Boxycharm you get more than your money’s worth so it has that going for you. Everything is full size. I’d feel meh about this bag too so I’m not sorry I quit.

I think I’ll stick around for the December holiday bag, and then pull the plug next year. I will check out the options with Boxycharm and see if I can get a short term subscription.

Aw. I hate meh-bags and boxes. There’s nothing very new or exciting to try out in here, though there are some cult favourites. The bag itself is the best part, IMO!

Aww, too bad it wasn’t as good as other months. I always find those Caudalie samples end up having such a puny amount of product in them too.

Your box is slightly different from mine. I didn’t get the Caudalie and Moroccanoil. Also, I’m surprised at how much I ended up liking My Burberry. I thought it wouldn’t be my cup of tea but it totally is.
