LOTD: Peachy Spring Shades

I have done a look of the day in about forever. But two new makeup products that are both perfect for spring came my way recently. I was inspired to use them on Saturday night for a quick look for dinner at home with friends.

LaJeanell Lipstick “Autumn Leaves”

LaJeanell is a natural, organic, cruelty-free, and vegan skincare and makeup brand that is perfect for those with sensitive skin. It’s also great for those who care about the ingredients in the products they use on their face. Their makeup is formulated with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and healing ingredients. Who wouldn’t want that?

Also, it’s a woman-owned brand, started by long-time business woman Shirley Powell. It’s manufactured in the U.S.

Along with two skincare products that I will be reviewing soon, the folks at LaJeanell sent me one of their lovely lipsticks. I chose the shade “Autumn Leaves” because I thought it would be a burnt orange or browned-peach to go with its autumnal name. Instead, it is a bright peach that is perfect for spring or summer.

Although technically LaJeanell “lipstick” is a multitasking product for lips, cheeks and eyes, I limit its use to my lips only. Nevertheless, it would make a beautiful blush in a pinch.

The formula is 85% organic, it’s vegan, gluten-free and made with non-GMO ingredients. Although LaJeanell describes it as “instantly hydrating”, on my dryish lips, it is neither hydrating nor drying. It is comfortable to wear. I would describe it as having a semi-matte finish.

The oils and extracts in the formula are supposed to improve lips elasticity. Since I don’t wear it every day, I don’t know. But it certainly is loaded with natural plant oils and extracts as you can see in the ingredient list below.

I’m a fan of the tube that it comes in because it has a clear segment that shows you the actual color of the product. Yay!

LaJeanell Lipstick (Lip/Cheek/Eyeshadow stick) is priced at $28 and sold on the LaJeanell website. It comes in 5 shades: Autumn Leaves, Shirley, Summer Breeze, Winter Holly Berries, and Spring Blossom. On the website, three shades look like neutrals, and Winter Holly Berries looks like a stunning, bright red. Check ’em out!

Jones Road Cream Just A Sec Eye Brightener

Jones Road Beauty is the newish, clean beauty brand started by well-known makeup artist Bobbi Brown after she left her eponymous Bobbi Brown brand. I’ve been seeing a lot of ads for Jones Road, and I’ve been eager to try some of the products. A couple of weeks ago, Marcia generously sent me a selection of Jones Road products to try out! <3 Today, I’ll be sharing just one of them, Just A Sec Bright Eyes cream eyeshadow.

Although the Just A Sec Bright Eyes cream eyeshadow comes in 6 shades, I have only tried one, Golden Peach, aptly named. So, my impressions are based only on that one shade rather than the entire collection. I would describe Golden Peach cream eyeshadow more as a shimmery topper than a true eyeshadow. It is sparkly without being over the top. It definitely brightens my eyes. I describe it as either transparent or translucent rather than opaque. When I wear it on my eyes, I always apply it over eye primer, if I’m not applying it on top of a matte cream or powder shadow. In fact, the swatch below is almost invisible because I applied it over bare skin, mistake.

I have to find my Anastasia Beverly Hills Eye Primer because it is a bright white opaque primer, and I think that Jones Road Just A Sec Golden Peach would pop much more worn over that primer rather than over the transparent Urban Decay Anti-Aging Primer Potion that I usually use.

Golden Peach is a creamy, smooth cream shadow that’s similar in feel to Charlotte Tilbury cream shadows but without the opacity, unfortunately. It’s loaded with dimethicone that makes it so spreadable.  So if you can’t wear dimethicone, avoid this one. Nevertheless, I can wear products with dimethicone, and I like Jones Road Golden Peach. I have been wearing it a lot everyday or for casual occasions when I want a gentle wash of color, a little shimmer and eyes that look brighter and less tired.

I have tried applying it with my fingers and with a shadow brush. I definitely think using a brush is better since it helps the color stand out more.

At this point, Jones Road Beauty is sold only on the Jones Road Beauty website. I hope that one of these days it will be available at a store like Ulta or Sephora so that it would be possible to try the products before buying. The price is $26 for 3 grams.

Ingredients: Dimethicone, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Hexyl Decanoate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Dimethicone/Divinyldimethicone/Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Calcium Carbonate, Silica, Phenoxyethanol, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Silica, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Tocopherol, Octyldodecanol, Tin Oxide, Sorbitan Oleate, May Contain +/-: CI 77019/Mica, CI 77891/Titanium Dioxide, CI 77491/CI 77492/CI 77499/Iron Oxides, CI 75470/Carmine

    1. Thank you, Marcia! I love cream shadows so I really appreciate this gift from you! Today, I tried it as a topper on top of MAC Paint Pot “Layin’ Low”, a peach opaque shade, and it works so well to add a little shimmer! I still need to find my tube of ABH white primer and try it over that.

I mean it. You are such a natural beauty and you know how to use makeup to enhance it rather than hide it. I’m okay. Thank you! I hope you’re doing well.

  6. Hi, Allison – You do look awesome in the photo of you with the Autumn lipstick. I’m really interested in this peachy, spring-like lipstick from a vegan company. But, I just bought a beautiful, shimmery peach from Wet ‘N’ Wild (of all things, right? but it’s gorgeous.) So I looked at the Spring color on LaJeanelle’s website and it looks more like mauve but I can’t tell because it looks more peachy on the model. So naming these lipsticks after seasons doesn’t seem to be jiving very well. As a seasoned beauty blogger, have you experienced this with other brands? What are your thoughts? I’m thinking I’d have to call the company and talk to a consultant in order to make a purchasing decision. Thanks! – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com
