I haven’t done a Nail of the Day post in a long time because my manis are so rudimentary compared to the talented nail bloggers I follow. But I reassessed: my role is not primarily to introduce you to new mani designs, but to let you know about nail products worth trying or better avoided.
Today’s NOTD is the pairing of one of my faves – Deborah Lippmann It’s Raining Men – a tomato red cream that I bought in a deluxe size (0.27 fl.oz.) as part of last year’s holiday collection set of 12 on HSN…
and my brand new purchase, Starrily Galaxy, a topper that’s thick with holo glitters, circles, stars, hex, that resemble stars and planets in a clear base meant to convey a galaxy.
I had planned to pair Galaxy with a dark blue or black, but the DL red just spoke to me last night because I am planning to wear a black top with cut-in fabrics in red patterns when we go to dinner with friends tonight.
The Starrily topper is super-thick. It has the most stuff in it of any topper I have ever tried. And it’s in a thick base. Nevertheless, I piled it on, using two coats because I wanted a lot of bling. Probably not at all necessary. I purchased Galaxy on the Starrily website for $10, and I love it. It’s probably one of the best toppers I’ve ever purchased ‘coz there’s just so much glitter in it.
It’s 5-free (no Formaldehyde, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Toluene, Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor). The full size bottle I bought contains 0.5oz/15ml nail polish. They say there’s a mini size bottle with approx. 0.16oz/5ml nail polish, but I think that comes only in a collection. Starrily nail polish is vegan and cruelty-free, and made in the U.S.
What’s your favorite topper these days?
What a fun manicure! Looks amazing!

Thank you, Gio! I had planned to use Galaxy over a dark blue, but the red seemed like it fit my outfit better, and I like how it came out! I’ll do the blue next time
LOVE it for the Holidays! <3 My favorite glitter topper is KBShimmer Spot Sign! 🙂

Thanks, Kim! I love all of Deborah Lippmann’s reds!
I would have never thought to mix red & glitter like this – but now my imagination is going wild thinking about how this would look with my fave red dress and sparkly black heels. xoxo Audrey
I wasn’t planning to wear Galaxy with a red base, but when I thought about what I was going to wear, I realized it would be the perfect combo, and I love the way it looks! Hope you try it, Audrey!
Love this mani! I am a total sucker for a great red and glitter, well. Yeah. And I have been lusting after Starrily Galaxy for a while, now. It will be mine, one day. 😀

I’m jealous of your nails, great length! I actually haven’t painted my nails in a while, been slacking in that department :).

Thank you, Lisa! This was my first from Starrily, and I love it. It’s so jam-packed with glitter, it’s amazing. DL is always a fave.
I am usually not a red nail girl, but OMG I need this shade. Its like the perfect red shade. And that top coat is gorgeous!!!!
Jamie @ Makeuplifelove recently posted…All That Glitters Gold….
I didn’t think I was going to like this shade of red, but it looks so gorgeous on. Although it’s a cream, it almost looks like a jelly underneath the topper. I hate to take it off, (and I dread taking off the glitter, lol)
I love that red shade.

Me too, Valesha. Such great shades and quality from DL!
What a pretty mani! If you want a lot of glitter, but not a lot of the clear base, paint the glitter onto a makeup sponge first, and then dab the glitter onto your nail. The sponge will absorb some of the base, and you have better control over glitter placement and density.
Thank you so much, Nidia, for that tip! As you can tell, I’m a mani novice. If I let the base dry first, hopefully the sponge would absorb any of it, right? Applying a couple of coats of the glitter topper results in lots of overlap and too much density. I will try your suggestion soon!
So Christmasy!
I hadn’t thought of it that way, but yes it is!
Love the stars- so fun!
