Perricone MD Vitamin C Ester Brightening Eye Serum

Press Sample - Affiliate Links

I’ve been dying to try some Perricone MD skincare products. The brand has a good reputation, but it’s quite pricey. I’ve gotten a few sample packets over the years and I’ve tried testers occasionally at Sephora and Ulta. But the samples weren’t big enough to form a real opinion.

So I was thrilled when I was chosen by Influenster to receive a full size Perricone MD product.

I didn’t know what I was going receive until it arrived, and I opened the box. And even then, for some reason, I thought it was a vitamin C serum for my face! And that’s how I used it the first time, till I finally noticed “eye” on the bottle and box.  🙄  😆

I started using it for the purpose it was developed: an under eye serum to help:

  • brighten the under eye area
  • lighten dark circles
  • stimulate collagen to help soften fine lines and wrinkles.

Because I don’t have really dark circles under my eyes, I wouldn’t have bought this particular product. But because it was complimentary in exchange for an honest review, I’ll give you my thoughts.

First, the product esthetics. Perricone MD. Brightening Eye Serum is an ultra-lightweight serum, and it takes just a drop under each eye to cover the entire area. It absorbs and dries in just a few seconds. I love that. And I love that it doesn’t interfere with my regular eye cream.

It comes in an amber glass bottle to protect the efficacy of the vitamin C serum. It has a dropper. Truthfully, I would prefer a pump for a couple of reasons. The dropper tip could stand to be narrower so that less would come out. It’s been a bit hard for me to limit the amount, and since I only need one drop for each eye, I need better control. Next, I have never done this before, but I inadvertently knocked over the bottle while I was using the dropper. I spilled about 1/3 of the serum on my bathroom vanity. You could probably hear me crying wherever you are because I was so upset.

The Perricone MD website says that the scent is citrus, but I honestly don’t smell anything when I put a drop or two on my skin. I sniffed the bottle, and it smells very faintly herbal. The serum is clear with a very pale yellow tint.

It contains vitamin C, but I don’t know what the concentration is. Nevertheless, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is a stable form of vitamin C that is fat soluble, and many scientists believe it may penetrate skin layers better because of it. It also contains Ascorbyl Palmitate, a stable non-acidic form of vitamin C that is an antioxidant. Brightening Eye Serum also contains squalene to hydrate and visibly reduce fine lines, as well as chamomile extract to visibly minimize fine lines and discoloration. The complete ingredient list is at the end of the post.

Results? I’ve been using Perricone MD Brightening Eye Serum for about 3 and a half weeks. In terms of brightening and lessening dark circles, I haven’t seen any change, but I don’t have bad dark circles anyway. I feel bad that I really can’t address whether Perricone MD Brightening Eye Serum does a good job or not lessening dark circles.

I recently realized that I should bring the serum down to the bottom of my eye sockets and over to my crow’s feet, and use it to address the eye problem areas that I do have. That’s how I will use the rest of the serum.

Perricone MD Brightening Eye Serum contains 15 ml/0.5 fl. oz. and is priced at $60. It’s sold on the PerriconeMD website, at Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, skinstore.com, and QVC.

After trying Perricone MD. Vitamin C Ester Brightening Eye Serum, the ultra-lightweight, fast absorbing formula has made me want to try the Vitamin C Serum for face! Also, Perricone MD has other eye products that are created to address my eye issues such as Firming Eye Lift, now on my wish list.

Thanks for your honest review! Seems like it at least moisturizes!

    1. Since dark circles aren’t my primary issue, I wouldn’t have chosen this serum, so I’m not expecting too much – though some softening of lines would be nice.

  9. Kathryne says:

Good review per usual. I don’t think this will also help with dark eye circles, looking at the ingredients. However it’s a good moisturizer, happy to see that they listed squalane instead of squalene. Technically, it’s plant-based version.

    1. Oh, I didn’t know that “squalene” was the plant-based version. Thank you, Kathryne!

    1. There is sodium hyaluronate in this essence, but it doesn’t feel hydrating like eye cream so I use both together

  11. I think that my comment got swallowed up! I periodically get dark circles, when I don’t get enough sleep, and I would love to try this. I agree with you, I would prefer a pump to a dropper as well.

    1. Sorry about that, Helen! I’m not sure what’s up with my comment program every now and then. Pumps rule even for serums!

  12. Dark circles combined with deep set eyes make for a horrific effect in my case. I’m always looking for a brightening eye product – Vitamin C is one of the few ingredients that work!

    1. If vitamin C works for you, you may want to try a sample of Perricone MD Brightening Eye Serum. You were comparing two different mandelic acid serums on your blog yesterday, and this serum from Perricone MD is so ultra lightweight like the Korean serum you preferred. It’s an essence and it doesn’t interfere with other eye creams or with foundation.

  13. I’ve been getting dark circles lately (not sure if it’s lack of sleep or something else). This sounds like a great product. I got a face cream to try from the brand through Influenster as well.

  14. My Nail Polish Obsession says:

I don’t have dark circles but I am noticing lines at the outer corners of my eyes (forget what they are called). Maybe this could help with that.

  15. I have some major dark circles, to the point if I don’t color correct them it looks like my mascara traveled beneath my eye even when I’m not wearing mascara so this would be perfect for me!
