Over the past year, there have been a lot of palettes introduced with warm reds and oranges.

I passed on both Urban Decay Naked Heat and ABH Modern Renaissance because I didn’t think I would wear the red shades and I have some nice oranges from Viseart and Too Faced. But never one to pass up a gift, I’ll show you an affordable palette with reds and rusts from Profusion Cosmetics, a brand that’s new to Target. Amber Eyes.

First, the case is a heavy plastic that almost feels like metal. It has a large usable mirror, and the double-ended brush is good quality – I use it. It also came with a dust cover over to protect the pans.

Inside there are 12 shades: 9 mattes and 3 shimmers.

  • Ideal: pale peach matte that I use as a base shade but could be a highlight for some (difficult to see on my skin tone)
  • Excited: sheer gold shimmer that I use on top of another shade
  • Chatty: sheer pale pink shimmer that I use on top of another shade
  • Likeable: light camel matte that I use as a base shade (difficult to see on my skin tone)
  • Outgoing: light orange matte
  • Fling: mauve matte
  • Thoughtful: milk chocolate shimmer
  • Outspoken: red-orange matte
  • Amour: deep red matte
  • Devoted: reddish purple matte
  • Cozy: deep brown matte
  • Fearless: deep orange matte

The shades have decent to good pigmentation.

Frankly, I am comfortable with these shades that don’t shout, but if you like brights, these may not be deeply pigmented enough for you unless you use them wet to amp up the volume. I wear them over primer as I do all shadows, and most of the shades show up well enough for me. As I mentioned, Ideal and Likeable are close to my skin tone and very light on my skin, so I use them both as base shades. I often use either Excited or Chatty on top. I wish that the shimmers Excited and Chatty were more opaque so that I could use them on their own rather than as toppers.

The shadows kick up some dust in the pan but are clean to use on my lids. I haven’t experienced any fallout. The shadows are easy to blend, and they are buildable if you want a deeper look. They last on my eyes over primer till I take them off many hours later.

Here are the shades again in bright light.

My opinion is that this is a good, affordable on trend warm-toned palette that emphasizes rusts and reds that is great for fall. The majority of the shades are pigmented enough for me because I don’t like to wear overly bright shadows on my older eyes. I like that the palette is mostly mattes that I can transform into shimmers by adding Excited or Chatty on top. It’s quite versatile. If you’re looking for an orange/red palette that doesn’t break the bank, check out cruelty-free Profusion Amber Eyes at Target for $6.99.
