Do you know about Profusion Cosmetics? Just in case, here’s a little synopsis or a refresher. Profusion Cosmetics was started in southern California about 20 years ago, and now has grown to be an international brand. Their mission was and still is to provide affordable makeup in on-trend wearable shade to a multicultural community. Of course, they are cruelty-free. The prices for sets and palettes range from $4.99 to about $24.99. Profusion is an upbeat, fun brand with oodles of products to try. In fact, they recently sent me about 7 different palettes, and I’m a bit overwhelmed by all the options, so I will take it one at a time to share them all share with you over the next few weeks.

BTW, have you heard about Profusion Cosmetics coming to Target? Yup, you can buy Profusion in store and online at Target. How convenient!

Let’s start with a kit, Profusion Mixed Metals Glam Eyes & Lips.

Metals are all the rage again this year, and Profusion put together this set that’s great for travel or for use at home that pairs metallics with matte shades so you have both finishes to create a full look. I have to mention that the kit is carefully packaged in order to keep everything in place in the box. In fact, the plastic covering over the shadows was on so tightly that I injured one of the pans as I removed the plastic 😥 But secure packaging is important to me because I recently had a palette from another brand end up with the black shadow smashed all over the other shades. So keeping shadows safe and intact has become a bugaboo of mine.

The lip portion of the kit contains a lip liner pencil in Matte Barre, a supremely wearable mauvey-terracotta, neutral shade that is perfect for me and pretty much anyone. It’s the kind of color that you will find yourself reaching for over and over.

Next is a gorgeous creamy, comfortable Metal Matte Lip Creme in Metal Lux, a gorgeous rose gold that’s great on its own for a golden look or as a topper. It’s easy to apply with a doe-foot applicator.

Now onto the eyes. Profusion includes a very usable, soft, synthetic shadow brush for sweeping one shade across your lid or for blending.

The Mixed Metals Glam palette is an easy to carry palette, about 4.5 x 5 inches, and it includes a huge, useful mirror. The Mixed Metals Glam palette can be purchased separately as well on the Profusion website and probably at Target, price $10, and it’s available in two other shade families as well as Glam pictured here: Nude and Amber.

The Glam palette has 9 neutral-ish shades, a handy mix of 4 shimmers and 5 mattes. It’s a good smokey eye palette. I’m happy to have a new deep black, because that’s the one that shattered in my Huda Obsessions palette and ruined everything.

I swatched the Profusion Glam Mixed Metals shadows and I wear them over primer because that’s how I wear all eyeshadows. My advice, however, would be to wear these shadows over primer so that the restrained shimmers will show up well. Let’s look at the swatches.

  • Gentle: a pale butter shade that works on the brow bone or across the lid for a springy daytime look
  • Joy: a beautiful copper shimmer
  • Cookie: a coppery-bronze matte that works across the lid, in the crease or as a transition shade
  • Ethereal: is just that, ethereal! It’s a pale white-lavender that’s also a lovely highlighter
  • Tricky: a very useful medium-deep brown matte
  • Knockout: a nicely pigmented black matte
  • Serenity: who doesn’t love a rose gold shimmer?
  • Glam: on-trend red-brown matte
  • Interest: a fabulous plum shimmer shade with a bit of a white/aqua shift

Though the mattes are well pigmented, the light shades on my fair/light skin are rather light. In fact, here they are as finger swatches so you can get a better look at them.

Truth be told, the shadows kick up a bit of dust in the palette, but they are easy to apply and blend, and they behave nicely on the lid. I haven’t had any issues with fallout. The shades last until I remove them.

I think these light shades would look fabulous on skin tones that are deeper or somewhat deeper than my skin. Or they are perfect for women who  like shimmers but don’t want to look like a disco ball. These shimmers whisper (at least on my skin), rather than shout.

I think the Profusion Mixed Metals Glam Eyes & Lip set would be a wonderful graduation gift for girls graduating this month. And as I mentioned above, I think it’s a good travel set and perfect for those who prefer neutrals and somewhat more subtle shimmers. Head over to Target, and check it out yourself! And stay tuned for lots more Profusion palettes to come  🙂

  1. I always find this brand at Winners but I never bought any. It does seems like a brand for younger consumer and maybe someone who is just starting to dip their toes into makeup.

    1. Based on this set with the rather timid shimmer shadows, that was my thought, Shireen. But I’ve got about 7 more palettes to go! And I’ve heard such good things about the brand from some of the other bloggers, so let’s see. I think I have a blush palette, and if so, I’ll try that one next 😉

  2. Sandy Pincombe says:

I have never heard of this brand. I immediately went to Target’s website to check it out. Not into metallics BUT I am going to go into Target and check the line out. Thanks for another great review.

    1. I discovered Profusion a couple of years ago at Ulta, but then it disappeared. Profusion just launched at Target in May, and Target is usually picky about which brands they sell. I was sent about 5 different palettes, so I will try to review them all, one at a time. They sent a couple of face palettes that include blush, highlight and contour. And a couple more eye palettes. They have a huge product line! But I don’t know if they do mascara, eyeliner and regular lipsticks. I’ve gotta go to Target too and see what’s there. When I looked online on target.com, it was palettes in every shape, variety and form!

  3. I picked up some Profusion goodies at target in February and I’m impressed with the brand. I highly recommend the blush palette for $4.99!!

    1. I received several palettes, Judy, and I just looked to see if the blush palette was there, but unfortunately not. However, there is a neutral shadow and blush palette, so I can get some experience with the blushes from that. I haven’t seen the brand in Target yet, but they seem to only make palettes. Kind of unusual! I’m glad to hear that you’ve had good experiences with the Profusion makeup that you own!

  4. I haven’t used anything from the line but I’m sure I’ll check it out when they come to my local Target. The eyeshadow palette catches my eye!!

    1. They have so many palettes, Stacie! In fact, I think that’s what Profusion does: palettes of all kinds: eye, face, cheek, lips in various combinations! I need to go to Target, and see the whole line!

  5. I always see this line either TJMaxx or Ross. The metallic lip cream looks cool to wear on nightouts

    1. I saw Profusion a couple of years ago at Ulta, but then it disappeared. The brand just launched at Target in mid-May. I think it’s unusual that they do all forms of palettes, but no single makeup products from what I can tell. I’ve got 4 more palettes to go in various combos of eyes, cheeks and lips.

  6. I’m not big on metallic lip products but that eye palette is calling me!

  7. Great products in this kit. It’s impressive especially for the price. I’d be interested in reviewing these too. I’m always game for more eyeshadows and I think that I’d wear this palette a lot. Great to hear of a reasonably priced collection.

  8. I am very impressed with the assortment of colors and finishes in the eyeshadow palette. It has mattes and shimmers, transitional shades, highlights, and even a beautiful plummy purple that will wear well into fall/winter. Thanks for the swatches as well, they are very helpful!

  9. I’ve never heard of this brand – it’s cruelty free you say?

    1. Definitely cruelty-free! It’s a southern Cali brand that’s been around for 20 years. I saw it a couple of years ago at Ulta. They just launched at Target in mid-May.

  10. I love the mix of colors in the palette.

  11. I want a pan of Ethereal! I love the metallics!! Great review!

  12. I don’t mind shadow kick up in the pan, so this sounds really nice. I love the colors! I’m not the biggest fan of metallic lips but the color is really cool!

  13. I’m surprised by how vibrantly these shades swatch for how inexpensive they are!

  14. I have never heard of this brand before, but everything is so pretty! It’s too bad that the shadows kick up some dust, but it’s good to know that they perform well.

    1. Profusion is a 20 year old SoCal makeup brand, so hopefully the fact that they are now sold at Target will introduce them to more people!

  15. Wow that metallic lippie! I’m totally digging that!

    1. It’s really something! I love the rose gold on top of red

  16. I don’t think I’ve seen this brand at my local Target but maybe I just wasn’t looking! I sure love their price tags.

  17. My Nail Polish Obsession says:

That’s a nice shadow palette. I can’t say I’m a fan of the metallic lipgloss tho – a bit too robot-y for me.

    1. The metallic lip gloss actually looks good over a red lipstick. I should have shown that too!

  18. 25 Sweetpeas says:

Glam is my type of color!

  19. Ehmkay nails says:

I’m loving that target beauty is expanding so much.

  20. New to me brand but I love the set!!! Everything complements each other perfectly!

  21. I really love metallics, whether they’re on the lips or eyes. I’m going to look at these. Only one of the Targets anywhere near me has Profusion in store, and it’s near the University so it’s nearly always sold out. But I’m going to try!!

    1. I love the metallic lippie on top of a red lipstick!
