Project Pan August 2021 Beauty Empties

Better late than never! I used up a decent number of beauty products in August. I tossed a lot of expired products that I won’t write about. I have about a million more expired products that I still have to get rid of. Ugh.

I Bought This, PR Sample, Affiliate Links

Here are my August empties!

Bath and Body

  • Ravish Soap Co. Beach Please Coconut & Sea Salt Soap: For me, there was a learning curve in using this highly fragrant, stunningly gorgeous beach-inspired soap.  Initially, it didn’t lather quite as well as other natural soaps I have used. But I discovered that if I cut it in half and flip it around in my hands several times, the lather is generated. Repurchase? I already have. It’s such a pretty soap, I love using it. And I just saw that it’s on sale now for $4 a bar. I am going to buy more to have on hand for little holiday gifts.
  • Summer Ready Innovative Sunscreen Vitamin D Promoting SPF Technology SPF 30: I loved this innovative sunscreen that is supposed to let the rays that make vitamin D through while screening out the damaging UV rays. From an aesthetic standpoint, this is also a terrific lightweight fragrance-free chemical sunscreen. Repurchase? Although pricey, I will buy another tube next summer because it ticks all the boxes for me. And I take their word for it that it helps promote the formation of vitamin D.
  • Molton Brown Heavenly Gingerlily Bath & Shower Gel, travel size: I really like Heavenly Gingerlily shower gel. The scent was light and powdery. Delightful! Repurchase? I have a lot more travel size bottles to use up, but Gingerlily is on my purchase list for when I get caught up.

Beauty Tools

  • Koh Gen Do 100% Pure Cotton Pads: These organic cotton pads are my favorites for applying toner and essence as well as for applying makeup remover because they are incredibly gentle and they do not pill or fall apart. Repurchase? I already had another box waiting in the wings. I may try DHC’s cotton pads, but I will probably buy another box of KGD pads when there’s a sale. I think these are the best!
  • Japonesque Heated Lash Curler: I bought this handy dandy heated lash curler at least 5 years ago, and I honestly forgot I had it. It did curl my lashes, but I have since found mascaras that do just as good a job (Half Caked, Milk Makeup etc.). I tried a new battery in this curler, but I think it has died. Repurchase? No.
  • The Body Shop pouf: It’s long past time that I toss this terrific pouf from The Body Shop called Ultra Fine Bath Lily. I have tossed it in the washing machine many times, and it’s still in great shape. But it’s probably 3 years old. I think I need to get rid of it. Repurchase? I have two more waiting in the wings, but I would not hesitate to buy another. It’s worth the $3.

Makeup

  • Diorshow Mascara: Before I started blogging, Diorshow Mascara was my go-to. I loved the fact that it came in a number of different colors beside black. And I thought the huge, fluffy wand head that is super-volumizing was great. But as time has gone on, and I have more experience with difference brands and wands, I prefer other mascaras. Repurchase? No.
  • Benefit Roller Lash Mascara: Roller Lash is one of the other mascaras that I know prefer to Diorshow. I like the lengthening formula and the short plastic teeth on the wand. My only complaint is that I wish the wand were straight instead of curved. Repurchase? I have several waiting in the wings that I bought when it was on sale.
  • Mirabella The Brow Shaper: I received this tinted brow gel with a big wand a few years ago when Mirabella was under the original management. I liked it a lot because it was easy to apply, and the universal shade somehow  suited me well enough. Repurchase? I’m thinking about it because it is still available.

Skincare

  • Aforé by Dr. Few CBD Effusive Soothing Skin Mist: I adored this lightweight skin mist with CBD, green tea and vitamin C that comes with the perfect mister. Although expensive, it lasted for many months and I used it at least twice a day. Repurchase? Yes, I bought a new bottle on eBay! Yay! But I will keep the spray bottle and put my other toners in it ‘coz it’s a perfect fine spray.
  • The Nue Co. The Pill All-in-One Serum: I got this fab serum in one of my Ipsy Plus bags this past spring. It was lightweight and lovely. Repurchase? Maybe someday. I liked it a lot, but I have a ton of serums to use.
  • Belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb: I have bought loads of jars of this terrific eye gel. It is lightweight, hydrating, and does help firm loose eye skin. Repurchase? I know I will buy it again in the future but right now I am in love with City Beauty Lid Lifting Eye Cream and Derma E Stem Cell Eye Lifting Treatment.
  • Typology Orange Blossom Hydrolate: I adore the Typology skincare brand. Everything I have tried from this French apothecary-style natural and organic brand has been fabulous. Orange Blossom Hydrolate, a gentle toner with the unique scent of orange blossoms, was a delight to use. Repurchase? I am waiting to use up two more Typology skincare products that I love before I repurchase so I will qualify for free shipping. I am also trying to decide whether to get another bottle of orange blossom or try one of the other hydrolates. With Typology, you can’t lose!
  • FOREO Serum, sample packet: I can’t exactly remember why, but I strongly disliked this serum. Glad it was a free sample!
  • Tatcha Ageless Revitalizing Eye Cream, sample packet: Although I am a big fan of Tatcha skincare products, this eye cream was nice, but nothing special for me.

Project Pan Update

In August, I used up 13 beauty products. Not bad. I started the month with 68 empties for 2021, and I’m ending it with 81. I believe that my goal is around 125 empties for the year so I need 34 more by the end of the year.

How about you, did you finish up anything that you’ll repurchase in August?

  1. I am very impressed, Allison! The KGD Pure Cotton is by far my favorite! I love that Typology Hydrolat so much! You really did an impressive job finishing up so many wonderful products!

  2. One of these days I’ll buy the KGD Pure Cotton but only if I don’t have to pay shipping. I’m currently using the Belif Eye Cream, thanks to you, and enjoying it a lot. I was going to ask you the name of the Derma E one and now you’ve reminded me. You are doing a great job using products~ I finished an Hourglass mascara and a concealer sample yesterday and felt accomplished with just that!

    1. I have bought the KGD Pure Cotton pads at Sephora and on other beauty retailers that have free shipping and usually a 20% off coupon. Can’t remember if it’s Lovelyskin or Dermstore, but one of those. They are worth trying. I still like the Belif Eye Cream, but I’m into the City Beauty Lid Lifting Treatment spackle above my crease and on crow’s feet, Derma E Stem Cell Eye Lifting Treatment in my crease and on my lid, and CeraVe under my eye, lol. I can’t believe I’m using 3 different eye products. Crazy. Finishing the Hourglass mascara is an accomplishment! Go girl!

My favorite post of the month! It’s so much fun to see which products are used up and which products you would repurchase!

    1. Thank you so much, Denise <3 I'm so glad you enjoy the empties posts! This month, I repurchased more than usual! The Ravish Beach Please soap for $4 was a steal, and I can't believe I found a brand new Afore by Dr. Few CBD Effusive Mist on eBay for less than 1/3 the price of the regular price. 😀

  4. Gabrielle says:

I received that Nue Serum in an Ipsy box, but it arrived dried out so I never got to try it.

    1. I remember you told me that there was a problem with it. Did they make it up to you somehow?

      1. Gabrielle says:

They sent me some much cheaper, inferior serum that I used twice and threw away. Blecch.

        1. Oh no! How awful! I’m doing every other month now, and sadly, my bag for this month is less than impressive.

          1. Gabrielle says:

I’m so sorry! That stinks. I cancelled, but I’ll re-up if it looks like the next Glam Bag X will be special. Their making the announcement of who’s curating on the 16th.

          2. I should probably cancel for a while myself. Lately, I keep on because they always have stuff I want in the add-ons, but it doesn’t make sense to subscribe just for that.

          3. Gabrielle says:

They’re not their. Lordy I wish I could edit!

          4. I’m sorry. I wish this program allowed people to edit.

          5. Gabrielle says:

It does seem sad that the add-ons are more appealing than what you’re subscribing for.

          6. I actually liked the contents of my last bag and loved the add-ons, but subscribing every other month is a little weird. It looked like last month (that I didn’t get) had some good stuff, but this month is totally lackluster. However, I’ve been noticing they seem to have the same stuff over and over. Maybe it is time for a break regardless of the add-ons. Hmmm. I hope the Glam Box X collaboration is an enticing one, but on the other hand, it is probably just as well to save some money and just buy things you want or need for a while <3

          7. Gabrielle says:

I have been perfectly fine on my bag hiatus, so I’m sure you would manage just as well. As I said, I will only go back to Ipsy if Glam Bag X looks better than the Halsey collab.

          8. I know you’re right about not missing the subscription. Your strategy makes perfect sense. In some ways, I hang onto the subscription to give me something to write about and to get new makeup since blogging mostly gives me skincare products, but I have so much stuff already, I should just use what I have for a while. You are encouraging me xoxo

          9. Gabrielle says:

Should I be sad that I’m suddenly a good influence on people? (tee hee)

  5. Natalie says:

Best post of the month! Thanks for always sharing your opinion on your pieces and whether or not you’d repurchase.

    1. Thanks, Natalie!
