Project Pan: May 2021 Beauty Empties

End of the month means Project Pan update!

I Bought This, PR Sample, Affiliate Links

Although I thought I used up a lot in May, it seems I was wrong. Seven empties isn’t quite as good as I thought. But here they are anyway.

Haircare

Matrix Total Results Keep Me Vivid Color Lamination Spray: This Matrix spray is used after shampooing and before conditioning to help seal in color. You spray it on, leave it on for a minute and then rinse it out. Honestly, I have no idea how it works, but it seems to help prevent my color from fading as quickly as when I don’t use it. It also serves as an untangler/light conditioner. Repurchase? Yes, I just ordered another bottle.

Skincare

Derma E Stem Cell Eye Lifting Treatment: This white eye cream seems to do an excellent job for me firming the skin above my crease. It can be used around the entire eye area. I stopped using the $90 PCASkin Revitalizing Eye Gel and have continued using the Derma E that costs around $21. Repurchase? Yes, I just bought a new one!

Makeup

Benefit They’re Real! Mascara, travel size: I bought this mini mascara quite some time ago, and I think I waited too long to use it. I’ve been a fan of They’re Real original lengthening mascara for ages because I love the spikey wand and it is usually easy to apply. Using it recently, I couldn’t get it to go on very well at all. Actually, it’s probably kind of dried out. I need to stop buying mascaras when there’s a sale unless I really need it at the time because by the time I use them, they are no good. Repurchase? Not now, but I have bought many tubes of Benefit They’re Real Mascara and I’m sure I will buy it again in the future when I am ready to use it.

Bath & Body

Supergoop Forever Young Hand Cream with Sea Buckthorn SPF 40: Supergoop Hand Cream SPF 40 is a very nice handcream, one of the few that contains sunscreen. It lasted me a long time because I often forgot to use it. Repurchase? I had tried to repurchase it during the Sephora VIB sale in April, but it was out of stock at Sephora and on the Supergoop website. It is back in stock now, but I thought about it and decided that I can just use regular sunscreen on my hands rather than buying a separate product.

The Body Shop Emery Board: I got this cute emery board in an advent calendar I received a couple of years ago from The Body Shop. Although I usually use a glass nail file, I used this TBS emery board a lot, and it was surprisingly long lasting. It did a good job filing my nails without wrecking them. Repurchase? Probably not because I have a couple of emery boards given to me by a friend, and I’m back to using my glass files.

Nature Island Botanicals Patchouli Bar Soap: The patchouli scent of this full size hydrating bar soap handmade by Daphne from Nature Island Botanicals was lovely.  It cleans well without stripping my skin but leaving it feeling moisturized. Repurchase? I still have a few bars of soap that I bought from NIB. We’ll see what Daphne has if the Waterfront Festival in Gloucester is on this year.

Nature Island Botanicals Goats Milk Soap, travel size: Daphne gave me a few of this travel size or guest size soaps as a little gift the last time I bought products from her. Repurchase? I am a big fan of goat’s milk soap, and I will probably buy some from her in the future.

Tosses/Expired Products

Nature Island Botanicals Caribbean Coconut Oil: I don’t know why I didn’t completely use up this heavenly scented body oil from NIB. I guess I just don’t use body oil often enough, and this one is at least 4 years old. Repurchase? Probably not.

Kiehl’s “Made for All” Gentle Body Wash: Although Kiehl’s Gentle Body Wash is a very nice unscented gentle body wash, I can’t get excited about a body wash that doesn’t have a fabulous scent. I seldom used it, it was at least 4 years old, and it looked like the color of the gel changed. Repurchase? No. But if you’re looking for an unscented body wash, Kiehl’s Gentle Body Wash should be a prime contender!

Monthly Total

I ended April with 42 empties so far in 2021. In May, I only used up 7 beauty products bringing my total so far to 49. A little slow in trying to reach my goal. But I have 3 products almost finished that will count in June. I’ll keep plugging away. How about you – what did you use up in May?

Gabriel florentine multi pot. Always a repurchase, I use one a year. One bar camus rosemary shampoo. One bar camus camomile rose soap (camus is a local small company–I live in oregon). The only empties are the paper wrappers. One bottle the heritage store rosewater facial mist, always a repurchase. One bottle dr. Bronners organic orange lavender hand and body lotion. Repurchase. This has helped with post surgery dry skin and the smell is awesome. I love reading what others are using!

    1. Thank you, Janice, for sharing your empties!! In fact, I checked out all of your faves that I wasn’t familiar with. I haven’t used Gabriel makeup in a few years. The Multi Pot Blushes look terrific. And thank you for reminding me about Heritage Rosewater. I used to use it, and one of these days I will go back to it – it’s an excellent value and well made product. Camumu soaps from Oregon sound lovely, and if I lived closer, I would try them too!

Yes, camumu soap not camus…my phone wants to auto correct, lol.

        1. I thought that it was autocorrect striking again, Janice 😉

  2. SAME! My body wash HAS to smell amazing, and make me feel good! Even body lotion/butter haha. Otherwise, what’s even the point? Might as well use Gramps’s old carbolic!

    1. I do have some unscented body lotions so I can wear them with my perfumes, but body wash has to be a sensory experience for me otherwise why bother!

  3. Excellent job, Allison! I posted my Empties the other day, and while I liked everything enough to purchase them again, I just have so many opened products to use up before they go bad. Your not quite empty Nature Island Botanicals Caribbean Coconut Oil reminds me that I should go sniff some of the oils that I haven’t used in a while. I just started doing with some lipsticks that I haven’t used in a long time, and I am finding quite a few that have already turned!

    1. I understand exactly what you mean. In fact, this morning, after my post already was published, I thought that I will change the way I write my mini-reviews. Although this month I did repurchase two products that I finished in May, most of the time I can’t repurchase things because I have so many similar products I need to use first. First world problems, right?

  4. I know I finished something but what? The old memory is old? What I did do though is cleaned out brand new unused items and donated them to a charity garage sale. The people who ran it called me after thrilled with how well the items sold.

    1. That’s wonderful, Marcia! So generous of you! I wish someone in my neck o’ the woods was doing something similar

I’m like you. What is the point of unscented body wash?!?!
