Project Pan Update: October 19 Beauty Empties

October was a good month for me using up beauty products. I’m going to finish out the year strong! At the end of September, I had used up 108 beauty products. Let’s see what I added to the tally this past month.

Bath & Body

I think the bath & body category was the big winner for me this month. I get to recycle a number of products. What, if anything, did or will I repurchase?

bath and body products I used up in October 2019

  • Carol’s Daughter Almond Cookie Softening Body Wash: I bought this big bottle of creamy, gourmand body wash a couple of years ago because I wanted to try something from the Carol’s Daughter brand. The scent was rather delicate but yummy.  The body wash was gentle, foamed up fairly well and didn’t leave my skin stripped. It was affordable especially with CVS sales and Extrabucks. Repurchase? No. I have so many body washes from a host of different brands. Molton Brown and Rituals remain my faves. Nevertheless, it was a good product for those with dry skin.
  • Method Cucumber Hand Wash: I got Method Cucumber Hand Wash at deep discount at CVS, and I liked it a lot. The pear shaped pump bottle fit perfectly in the hand wash/cream holder at my kitchen sink. I really liked the cucumber scent because it was light and fit with kitchen smells. It was drying though I often used hand cream with it. Repurchase? Not now but I will eventually. I have a ton of foaming hand wash from another natural brand that I need to use up.
  • DerMend Fragile Skin Moisturizing Formula Cream: I have noticed that my skin has become crepey, boo hoo, and I would love to find something that rejuvenates it permanently. DerMend cream contains all the good stuff that you would look for in facial skincare: hyaluronic acid, retinol, glycolic acid, ceramides, and niacinamide. Though it definitely did a good job hydrating my skin for the short term, it no longer seems to keep it rejuvenated. Repurchase? No. If I had seen long term results, I would have repurchased it, but instead I will stick with the body creams that smell good and also provide short term hydration.
  • RITUALS Ritual of Ayurveda Balancing Body Cream: I got the Ayurveda Body Cream as part of a RITUALS Ayurveda gift set a while ago. One thing that’s kind of odd about RITUALS, a brand I adore, is that the scents of various products within a collection or scent family sometimes differs from product to product. The Ritual of Ayurveda is generally a spicy, deep scent that I love. But the scent of the Balancing Body Cream is a little different, more floral. Hmmm. Anyway, it’s a nice body cream. Repurchase? No. Right now, I have the Ritual of Dao Body Cream and I like that scent more.
  • Marvis Toothpaste: full size Aquatic Mint and travel size Whitening Mint: I love Marvis toothpaste. I love the old-fashioned, European look of the tubes, and the unusual flavors. Also, they don’t have fluoride that I’m not convinced I need at this age. Repurchase? In the future. When I use up the tubes of Sensodyne that I bought before I received the Marvis toothpaste, I will buy some more Marvis. It’s an affordable treat, IMHO.

Hair, Nails and Lips

  • CVS Health Biotin 10,000 mcg Soft Chews: I got these biotin chews for free from CVS when they were rewarding their “best customers”, lol. The chews were tasty. Repurchase? No, I don’t think so. I think 10,000 mcg was more biotin than I need, and I have a bottle of Natrol 5,000 mcg tabs waiting in the wings.
  • Live Clean Coconut Milk One Minute Hair Mask 5 in 1 Treatment: I loved the eco-friendly packaging pouch that the Live Clean Hair Mask came in. I also loved that the product was organic, cruelty-free, 97% from plant derived ingredients. It smelled nice too. Plus it’s affordable. Repurchase? Probably not because my coarse, thick hair needed a heavier conditioning treatment. Nevertheless, I definitely recommend this product for those with normal to fine hair.
  • The Vintage Cosmetics Company Nail File/Emeryboard: Like everything else from Vintage Cosmetics, this emery board was polka dotted and super cute. It was gentle on my nails. But with time, the paper shredded off it and it’s time to go. Repurchase? Probably not. Overall, I still prefer glass nail files.
  • City Beauty City Lips Clear: City Lips Clear is one of my favorite lip balms for my super dry lips. It stays on for hours without being overly sticky. It softens and heals my lips. I like the doe-foot applicator for easy, clean application. I love this stuff. Repurchase? Not yet, I bought it during the Buy One Get One sale several months ago, so I had one waiting in the wings.
  • Hanalei Lip Treatment travel size: I bought a trio of travel size Hanalei Lip Treatment tubes last year, and this is the second tube of the colorless lip balm that I’ve used up. I like this natural, plant-based ingredient lip treatment. It too is one of my three favorite lip balms. Repurchase? Not yet, I still have one tube left to use up.

Makeup & Beauty Tools

  • Urban Decay Anti-aging Primer Potion, travel size: Though I still don’t like this version of UDAAPP as much as the old one, I haven’t found an eye primer that I like more, so I still keep buying it. Repurchase? Yes, I did.
  • The Vintage Cosmetics Company Eyelash Curler: The cute eyelash curler came in a box of Vintage Cosmetics goodies along with the polka dot emery board. It worked well for over a year, but it seems to have lost its curling power. Repurchase? No, I just bought one from the Kevyn Aucoin brand.

Skincare

  • belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb: I know I sing the praises of this fab eye gel-cream all the time. I think this was the 3rd or 4th jar of it I’ve finished up since I was introduced to it a couple of years ago. Repurchase? Yes, I did.
  • Erborian Bamboo Creme Frappe, sample tube: I enjoyed this little tube of gel-cream moisturizer. It was lightweight and perfect for summer. Purchase? No, too lightweight for winter.
  • Clarins Double Serum with Turmeric and Curcurme, sample packet: I got this sample with a purchase from Sephora. I just saw an ad for this product, and the bottle is very cool. It’s a bottle within a bottle with separate chambers for the two serums. The packet also had two separate chambers. Both serums were golden oils, one deeper than the other. I could only get two usage occasions out of the sample, so I couldn’t really form an opinion. It seemed very nice. Purchase? Probably not just because I have so many serums and oils right now.

Expired Products/Tosses

expired or products I don't use in October 2019

  • NeoCell Fish Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid Capsules: To be honest, I forgot that I had these dietary supplement capsules. I started taking them, and then put the bottle away and forgot all about it. Now it’s about 4 years old. Also, you have to take 4 capsules a day, and frankly, I take enough pills. Repurchase? No.
  • Character Difference Eye Serum: The rollerball packaging is soothing to the eyes. However, I find that the highly herbal, natural and organic eye serum has such a strong herbal scent that it irritates my eyes. So out it goes.

In October 2019, I used up 13 beauty products bringing my Project Pan total to 121. My revised goal was 125 so I know I’ll make it by year’s end. What did you use up in October?

  1. Wow, Allison– I am very impressed by how many products you finished up in October. It is so nice finishing out the year knowing that you have used up so many of your products throughout the 2019. I was just looking at my bag of empties that I have been accumulating this month, and I suspect that my November empties won’t be as impressive as October. This isn’t for a lack of trying, but so far most of my near empties aren’t quite empty enough to use up by the end of the month. I also seem to be using a lot of largely full bottles and jars. That said, this post has motivated me to dig through my stash to see if there are largely used up products that I should try to finish.

    1. I know you purged a lot from your stash and your whole house this past summer, Helen, so you’re way ahead of the game! But you’re right, I’ve been concentrating on things that are within striking distance of being finished, and I have some more that I hope to finish by year’s end.

  2. Not a big month for me to finish things up since I basically didn’t use much. I’m impressed with how much you’ve finished. I can’t wait to hear your year end number.

    1. I’m trying to make a dent in all this stuff, Marcia. It’s overwhelming!

  3. I didn’t know that Carol’s Daughter had body washes. I’ve used their hair products on clients and love the results so I would totally try that body wash.

Impressive amount of empties! That belif eye cream must be good if your repurchased that many times 😊
