Protect Against Blue Light from Digital Screens with VitEyes Blue Light Defender

In spite of the fact that my iPhone told me that my screen time was down 8% last week, I know that I spend too much time looking at my phone, my desktop, my laptop and the TV screen. Spending more time at home certainly doesn’t help. In addition, spending more time outdoors in the sun exposes me to more blue light as well. Since I know I am probably not going to significantly reduce my screen time, I have been trying to take steps to protect my eyes from the blue rays.

Months ago, I wrote about using skincare serums from City Beauty and Derma E to block blue rays (reviewed here and here, respectively) to help protect skin. As much as I like both of those products, some days I want to wear skincare products that have different benefits.

Now there’s a way to protect your eyes from blue light with supplements from VitEyes: Blue Light Defender Gummies and Blue Light Defender Plus Capsules.

I have dry eye, blepharitis and optic nerve issues, so I am always concerned about my eyes. If there may be something that can give my eyes some protection from blue light from digital screens, I’m in. When the folks from VitEyes reached out to ask if I could like to try their Blue Light Defender, I was eager to try  it.

VitEyes, a supplement and vitamins manufacturer that sells their products to both consumers and eye professionals, makes three forms of Blue Light Defender:

  • Blue Light Defender Gummies: Lutein, Zeaxanthin, Bilberry
  • Blue Light Defender Plus capsules: Lutein, Zeaxanthin, Astaxanthin, Bilberry, Vitamin C
  • Blue Light Defender for Kids: Lutein, Zeaxanthin, Astaxanthin

Let me tell you a little about the two adult formulas I received.

VitEyes Defender Plus

VitEyes Defender Plus does double duty to protect eyes against blue light as well as to protect eyes from fatigue from staring at digital screens. The Astaxanthin and Vitamin C are the fatigue protectors.

Here’s how VitEyes describes Defender Plus:

Viteyes Blue Light Defender + is formulated with Lutein, Zeaxanthin and Astareal® Astaxanthin for total protection from the front to the back of your eye. Viteyes Blue Light Defender + contains lutein (20 mg) and zeaxanthin (4 mg), the only natural defenses our eyes have to protect your macula from the harmful effects of blue light. Plus, with Astareal® Astaxanthin, this premium formulation helps combat digital eye strain and eye fatigue. In addition, Viteyes Blue Light Defender + contains Bilberry & Vitamin C, and is free from common allergens. Viteyes Eye Health supplements are recommended by eye care professionals worldwide.

The bottle contains a 30 day supply of capsules.

VitEyes Blue Light Defender Gummies

The first thing I have to mention is how absolutely delicious the Blue Defender Gummies are. This sounds crazy I know, but I have to restrain myself from eating more than one! They have such a yummy fruit flavor. They also have a slightly glittery coating that makes them even more fun.

The gummies are free of common allergens, pectin-based, vegan, and certified Kosher. The formula contains no yeast, gluten, soy protein, milk, preservatives or artificial flavors Like the capsules, they come 30 to a bottle.

Here’s VitEyes description:

Viteyes Blue Light Defender is formulated with Lutein (20 mg) and Zeaxanthin (4 mg) to protect your eyes from blue light, which may be emitted from electronic devices (computers, tablets, smartphones) as well as from sun exposure. Lutein and Zeaxanthin are the only natural defenses our eyes have against the harmful effects of blue light. This premium formula also includes bilberry for added eye health benefits.

I noticed on the VitEyes website that they also sell Blue Light Blocking Glasses. In fact, they have a bundle where you can buy a bottle of Blue Light Defender Gummies and the Blue Light Blacking Glasses together for $29.95. And right now, they have a $5 off promotion with the code SCREENTIME. I have wanted a pair of blue light blocking glasses, and I am almost out of the yummy gummies, so I think I will go for it!

Check out VitEyes Blue Light Defender products on their website. You can purchase VitEyes supplements on their website where there are deals on buying a 3 month supply or through VitEyes shop on Amazon. They are also sold at GNC, VitaCost, and LuckyVitamin.

  1. Yummy gummies are always a hit! These are so interesting! I have only ever tried Derma E’s products to of Blue Light!

    1. The blue light blocking gummies were a revelation for me since I have always had eye issues. Also the Derma E and City Beauty blue light blockers don’t do anything for my eyes, so until I pick up a pair of blue light blocking glasses, these make sense.

  2. I am going to have to look into the gummies. The place where I get my prescription eyeglasses offers transition lenses that have blue light blocking technology built into them. Having those, I only need the gummies and they super intrigue me.

    1. That makes so much sense, Cassie, to have the blue light blocking technology built into your prescription lenses! I had cataract surgery this past year so now I only wear readers when I am reading a book or something close up. That’s why the blue light blocking gummies are a good solution for me, though I am considering getting VitEyes inexpensive blue light blocking glasses.

  3. I feel like as a kid I was cheated with gummies – he had the hard vitamins. Gummies are so much better. My current vitamin regimen is gummies. I also have dry eyes and am constantly staring at a computer monitor – I need to look into these.

    1. I agree: gummies rock!

  4. My dad had macular degeneration so I’m extremely aware of taking care of my eyes. He was in a study and I was his driver so I learned a lot going to the appointments and the lectures. I’ve learned to take vitamins specifically for eyes and this one sounds like it would be great for me.

    1. That is too bad about your dad having macular degeneration. Just curious, which eye vitamins do you take, Marcia? My ophthalmologist recommended fish oil capsules but he hasn’t suggested anything else. I’ve been wondering about a lot of the vitamins formulated for eyes.

This is such a great idea! I definitely have been on my phone a lot and I need to protect my eyes anyway I can.

  6. I didn’t know you could get protection in a supplement! I recently bought a new pair of prescription glasses with a special coating for blue light, I have noticed a difference so certainly interested in adding a supplement to help even more. Thanks for the info!
