Punk Rock, My Newest Heavy Metals Glitter Eyeliner from Urban Decay

Today, I returned the “place holder” Urban Decay Heavy Metals Glitter Liner in Midnight Cowboy, a gold shade, that I bought with my 20% off coupon at Ulta last night, and exchanged it for Punk Rock, the glitter liner that was out of stock last week when I did my haul. I wanted to show it to you (and to my enabler Rach), and see what you think.

Punk Rock is one of the new shades in the Heavy Metals Glitter Eyeliner lineup.

I think it was introduced before the holidays. I laughed when I read the description of Punk Rock on Ulta’s website. They call it “iridescent brown glitter”. I don’t love that description. The translucent gel suspension could be called brown, I guess. But it looks more like an eggplant shade. But the glitter is anything but brown. The colors of the glitter are raspberry pink, baby blue, green, peach, yellow, and purple. When it’s on my eyes, the glitter pieces do not appear individually distinct (though they are) because they are so tiny, but they glow when the light hits them.

The glitter in Punk Rock is very different from the chunkier silver glitter in the other shade I own, Glamrock. (reviewed and swatched here) Punk Rock’s glitter is fine and much, much more subtle.

Like Glamrock, wearing it over a pencil liner or over an eyeshadow base is the way to make it show up. In the swatches, you can see it:

  • over ColourPop Creme Gel Liner, shade Best 0, a medium brown liner
  • over Smashbox Waterproof Liner, shade Royal, a medium purple
  • on its own.

I think I like it best over the purple liner.

Rach told me that when she wore Punk Rock to work, no one mentioned it. I’m not surprised. The colored glitter is quite subtle. The light has to hit it for anyone to see it. It may be too subtle for some of you. But I like it. I could wear this liner whenever I want, not just for a special occasion or at night. Whereas the silver Glamrock is very noticeable (in a good way), but IMO you can’t wear it to the supermarket. 😉

The Heavy Metal Glitter Liners are suspended in a water-based gel, and you don’t need to shade the tube to get out plenty of glitter. It comes with a super thin brush.

If you want to get out more of the gel glitter from the tube, take off the plastic “washer” that controls the amount of glitter liner that comes out and just pour some of gel onto your fingers or a shadow brush and go to town.

Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Liners come in at least 10 shades. At my Ulta, I think there were spaces in the display for 8 shades, but there were only testers for 3 of them and 4 shades were in stock. Online, Ulta has 10 shades. When I bought Glam Rock at Sephora before the holidays, they seemed to have 10 shades. On Sephora.com, they list 13 shades but there are out of stock Xs over three shades. The Urban Decay site lists several shades as “out of stock” and others, like Punk Rock, as “new”. So I’m not sure if some of the shades are being discontinued and replaced by the new ones. At any rate, there are still a lot of shades to choose from. If you’re a glitter girl like me or even if you like things more subtle, there may be a glitter liner for you in the Urban Decay Heavy Metals product line.

Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner contains 0.25 oz./7 ml for $20.

🙋🏻☕️ I think my granddaughters would love these for Valentine’s ❤️ Day. I am afraid to use glitter around my eyes. Being older my eyes have become very delicate and tear a lot. So I am really careful with putting new products on my eyes.😱 Have a good day. 🌺😍

    1. I understand, DiEtta. My eyes have gone the other way: dry dry dry like everything else about me. 😥 I think your granddaughters, if they are glitter girls, would have a ball with these. Hope you’re having a good day! The snow just ended here, and everything looks so pretty outside my window.

  2. I put on a couple layers usually, for maximum glitter effect. I think only people that are taller than myself can really see it, because they can see my eyes behind my glasses rather than through them. But since I’m fairly tall that leaves a good many people out… Guess I’m back to wearing it just because I like it, huh? 😉
My blue one is supposed to arrive tomorrow! Maybe that one will be more shocking, hahaha.

    1. I wore it yesterday over the Smashbox Waterproof Pencil Liner in Royal, the bright purple, and I think it looked great. But it wasn’t a sunny day, and I wasn’t dining by candlelight that could help it glisten, so I guess you could say that I wore it for me, and that was just fine. Kind of like wearing lace lingerie to work. 😉 I’m glad I bought it because it’s so different from the silver. I’m dying to hear about the blue! I hope you love it.

  3. Oh, that is really pretty! You know I love purples! This one is going on my Wish List.

    1. It merits being on your wish list. So beautiful over a bright purple liner!

  4. You are braver than I am. I have tried glitter liner a few times but always feel silly in it. I should have worn it in my youth!

    1. When I was young, there was no glitter liner. I used to wear stars (like you’d get in elementary school on your paper) on my cheek for a little bling. Punk Rock is very subtle. It can be worn over purple, brown, black or navy line for a tiny bit of bling. Truthfully, it’s more for me coz I’m not sure others would notice it. I’ll try it tomorrow, and see if Jeff notices it. The silver, Glamrock, definitely stands out, but this one is like wearing lace underwear – I know I’ve got it on 😉
