PUR HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation

Coming right on the heels of new products like PUR Cameo Contour Sticks (reviewed here) and PUR Eye Polish that I still haven’t reviewed yet is a new line of lightweight foundation, PUR HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation. I didn’t realize that PUR’s tagline is The Complexion Authority. But I studied their website, and they have an impressive range of different foundation types. The new HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation is one of the most recent additions, and it’s just about perfect for my dry skin.

PUR HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation has an encapsulated water complex that brings Swiss mineral water to dry skin like mine. Following the trend toward uber-lightweight foundations, HydraFluid Water Serum is both watery and creamy (it has dimethicone) when you squeeze some out of the new dose-type tip on the plastic tube. You need to shake the tube before using to mix the ingredients.

It’s so smooth and hydrating, and I love how comfortable HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation is. I would say this is a wonderful foundation for dry or for over 45 skin. Yet I think that this formula would suit most skin types.

PUR recommends applying 2-3 drops of foundation with their chisel brush. I have used both the kabuki slant brush that I own and the PUR blending sponge with the slant flat side that I got along with PUR Cameo Contour, and they both work well. You can build up coverage if you like.

The foundation feels extremely lightweight and totally breathable on the skin, though it provides medium coverage. On me, I’d say it looks like almost full coverage. Yet it leaves a dewy, luminous finish. My friend, Kim, recently asked me what I was using that made my skin look so radiant. It was PUR HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation! I’m wearing Light in the photo below.

The new foundation comes in 5 shades: Light, Medium, Tan, Dark, and Deep.

I really love this foundation, and I’ve been reaching for it just about every day since it arrived a couple of weeks ago. My only complaint, now in early February, is that Light is a little too dark for my winter complexion that’s somewhere between Fair and Light. But it’s not so much of a difference to keep me away. PUR should add a Fair shade to their lineup because there are so many fair-skinned gals who are even lighter than I am.

Another nit is: please put the name of the shade on the tube. There’s a little window on the front of the tube so you can see the shade, but it can be a little confusing. Though most women won’t have 5 tubes of different shades in the house, I’m never sure if I’m grabbing Light or Medium!

So if you’re looking for a hydrating but lightweight mineral foundation that gives a fabulous glow, you’ve found it with PUR HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation. Priced at $39, it contains 1 fl. oz./30 ml. It’s sold at Ulta, on the PUR website and other retailers. PUR is not tested on animals.

    1. It is a wonderful foundation for those with dry skin especially. I didn’t start wearing foundation till I was older. If you skin is fine without it, that’s wonderful

  6. I have these, need to take pics and test. I swatched the Light, it felt lovely on the back of my hand but I think it’s going to be too dark for me. Alas. PUR needs to do a Fair shade. 😀

    1. That’s exactly what I said in my review. The shade isn’t a perfect match for me, but it’s close enough that I can get away with it, and it will be fine for summer. But they definitely need a Fair shade.

  7. My post on this will be up this week! It’s so glide-y, lol. I do love the consistency of it!

    1. I looked for them on the Kohl’s website and don’t see them on the site yet, but maybe they’re in the stores. They are brand new!

  9. I’m such a beauty blender junkie I can’t get past you saying PUR has a blending sponge lol. The foundation looks great on you, can’t even tell the shade is off. Having only 5 shades is very limiting hopefully they’ll expand the line and take your pointers. I can see it being frustrating for a mua to not know what shade is which. Great review!

    1. PUR’s blending sponge is a really good one, Kara. It’s stiffer than BB and it has a slanted, flat side on one side. I really like it. BTW, if you see a shade that would suit you, message me and it will be yours. I just swatched these but can’t use most of the shades.

      1. Awe thank you doll! You’re awesome xxx

        1. Let me know which shade and send me your address, if you want one, Kara. Either use my contact on the blog or PM me on FB 🙂

    1. I have a feeling it’s going to be darker than you ideally would like, Stephanie, because your skin look lighter than mine. But it’s so worth a try!

  12. I’m intrigued by this but I’m sure the Light would be too dark. My skintone is fair all year long.

    1. If you are lighter than I am, and it sounds like you are, Light would be too dark. They really need to add a Fair shade. Otherwise, it is a lovely foundation for “older” skin or dry skin.

  13. oooh that sounds like the PERFECT foundation! So glad it actually provides some coverage. I can’t stand lightweight foundations that look like you put nothing on. May as well just use a tinted moisturizer!
Elaine recently posted…Chanel Makeup Collection Spring 2016My Profile

    1. I’ve been having good luck getting good coverage from the new lightweight foundations. And PUR HydraFluid Water Serum has an interesting consistency. It’s definitely heavier than NARS LUMINOUS All Day Weightless Foundation or even Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation. Even in the formula when it on my hand or in the arm swatches, you can kind of see what it’s both creamy and watery, thus the need to shake it. I really love it. It feels like wearing nothing and makes my skin feel like velvet, but it gives me good coverage. I don’t know if it’s sold in Canada, but it’s worth checking out if you come upon it!

      1. I’m absolutely going to keep my eyes peeled for these!
Elaine recently posted…Chanel Makeup Collection Spring 2016My Profile

  14. I need to give these foundations a good test. I was also thinking they should make a Fair option too. Love how luminous it looks on you!

    1. I’m somewhere between Fair and Light with most foundations or CC creams. Although this is a little bit too dark and a little bit too warm, it looks fine on me, and in the summer, it’ll be perfect. I would say Light would be too dark for someone like Phyrra who is very fair, so they should add Fair to the mix one of these days.

  15. ann b says:

Love seeing a serum foundation without the messy gloopy dropper. Can’t wait to try this. What shades of foundation do you typically wear? I think I’m somewhere around NW15 in Mac and Estee Lauder Double Wear in 1C1 Cool Bone. Any idea if this will be too dark for me?

    1. It’s a little odd to shake a tube, Ann, but it certainly can be done, and the new tube tip really is soooo much better than a dropper. I don’t wear with MAC foundation, and I did wear DoubleWear quite some time ago, and I can’t remember what shade they said I was but I know it was too dark. I wear Sand in Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation. And NARS All Day Weightless Foundation Light 2 Montblanc. I have cool pink undertones. But I did look up the two shades that you wear, and I think Light would be a pretty good match. It has neutral, leaning slightly warm undertone, and that’s what makes it a little “off” for me in winter, but I know it’ll be fine for summer. Even though it’s not a perfect match, it looks fine on me. I think of this foundation as a somewhat like a CC cream in it’s consistency and the fact that there aren’t a zillion shades. But this stuff makes my skin feel like velvet. If you have dry skin, it is so worth a look. Are you anywhere near an Ulta store? Also, Kohl’s carries PUR. Not sure if this new foundation is in stock yet at Kohl’s but it’s worth calling. It would be worth trying a tester if you can. Do let me know if you end up going for it, or what you think about it if you can get to a store that carries it.

  16. I’m right with you! The Light shade is just a little too dark for my skin tone, but it should be perfect in the summer. When I took all of the shades out to photograph them, I was like “Ahhhh!” because they weren’t labeled on the tubes, and I couldn’t tell which was which after I was done! It was a bit of guess and check. 🙂 But other than that, I’m really liking the foundation!

    1. yes, we’re definitely on the same page with this one! But I do really love it. My skin feels like velvet!

  17. Lightweight and full coverage? Yes, please!
Cindy (Prime Beauty) recently posted…Valentine’s Day Blog Hop Giveaway! My Profile

    1. I really like this foundation that seems somewhat like a CC cream to me, Cindy. It doesn’t have the shade range of most prestige foundations, but the skin feel is fabulous. My skin feels like velvet. Altho the shade is just a bit dark and a little yellow for me, in summer it’ll be perfect, and even now, it’s not that far off. Worth a look at Kohl’s or Ulta to see if it will suit you

  18. I just started testing these. I like them, but really hope they expand their color range

    1. I do hope they add Fair to the lineup, but in some ways, it reminds me of CC cream where there’s a more limited shade range.

  19. I struggle with their color tones being too warm for me with a lot of their products. So I’d probably need a shade lighter if they made it! I’m a BIG fan of Serum type foundations. They just work great on my skin and I love that they are so lightweight, but still offer a great coverage!
Christine recently posted…Morphe 350 Palette Review and First ImpressionsMy Profile

    1. I’d say that Light has neutral undertones, and though I’m cool toned with pink undertones, I can get away with it. PUR definitely needs to add a Fair shade to their shade lineup, but all in all, I love this foundation and it’s become my new everyday go-to!

  20. Wow! Your skin looks AMAZING! Sounds like this is one of those foundations I need to keep my eye open for.
