Quickie Giveaway: Juliette Has A Gun Eau de Parfum, Lady Vengeance & Announcement of Shiseido Giveaway Winner

I’ve been a subscriber to Scentbird for almost a year (reviewed & explained here), and I’m really expanding my horizons with it. I discovered a few new scents that really suit me. I’m taking chances like I never used to do. Some are hits and some are misses, but each one is fun to try. If you’re not a subscriber but are considering it, I hope you’ll join via my referral code where you can get 15% off a subscription.

As I’ve said before, I love oriental scents and, on occasion, florientals. When I select a new scent to try from Scentbird, I usually stick with that category. Also, I belong to a fragrance lovers group on Facebook, so I sometimes pursue scents that the members recommend.

Somewhere along the time, I heard about the well-respected indie fragrance brand that’s described as “rock meets romance”, Juliette Has A Gun. Juliette Has A Gun scent names and themes are a takeoff on Shakespeare. Very witty!

Someone mentioned Lady Vengeance (Macbeth I presume, though there was an Asian movie called Sympathy for Lady Vengeance that came out in 2005). Based on the description on Fragrantica.com, I thought it would work for me. It had many of my favorite accords: rose, musky, patchouli, amber, and warm spicy. I bought it blind. It just arrived from Scentbird, and unfortunately, it doesn’t smell like those accords to me. It’s very floral with a sharp, musky rose note at the top that doesn’t work with my body chemistry, boo hoo. It’s an edgy scent.

One reviewer describes it as a “thorny rose” rather than a synthetic, sweet rose. It’s called Lady Vengeance for a reason. To me, it is a femme fatale fragrance!  😆 If you live near Sephora, the Juliette Has A Gun fragrances are sold there so you can go in and try it out first.

Lady Vengeance eau de parfum from indie scent brand, Juliette Has A Gun; purse spray from Scentbird, giveaway on neversaydiebeauty.com @redAllison

So rather than let it languish in my stash, I’m giving it away to someone who will love it! It’s a sample size, a purse spray, about 15 ml, I believe, enough for at least a month. In Fragrantica’s poll on Lady Vengeance, out of 960 respondents, most either Love it or Like it and they consider it a scent for fall, winter or spring and for any time of day. It’s made in France. A full size bottle of Lady Vengeance is priced at $100 at Sephora. The 15 ml sample cost me $15.

The top notes are bergamot and lavender. The middle notes are Bulgarian and Moroccan Rose, ISO E Super (whatever that is), and patchouli. The base notes/drydown are vanilla, white musk and ambrosian. It’s described as moderately to very long-lasting, and it’s a moderate to heavy scent. Raters describe Lady Vengeance as similar to Juliette Has A Gun’s other scent Vengeance Extreme, or similar to Agent Provocateur.

    1. Juliette Has A Gun makes so many different scents, Tee. You should check out the whole line when you’re at Sephora.

  5. I love the warm notes in this. My fave scent recently is Black Opium.

    1. I haven’t gotten to sniff Black Opium yet, but I want to since I’m a fan of the original. Thanks for entering, Heather, and good luck 🙂

  6. Dana Fox says:

This is one I’ve always wanted to try but just haven’t gotten around to it..Thanks for the chance. My all time favorite perfume is Hypnotic Poison..love it!

    1. Oooh, Hypnotic Poison sounds like one I need to check out. Thank you for entering, Dana, and good luck!

  7. Diana D. says:

One of my favorite fragrances is Bond No. 9 For All. It’s a spicy, gourmand scent that is so perfect for winter. I have been wanting to get a Juliette Has A Gun fragrance but my Sephora doesn’t carry it. I’d hate to spend that much money on a perfume without smelling it first. So I’d love to win this sample. I just know I’m going to love it but I’d feel better testing it out before purchasing it.

    1. I definitely need to check out Bond No. 9 For All next time I go to Boston. It sounds like one I would like. Sephora just started carrying JHAG in my local store, so maybe it’ll come to yours soon. Thanks for entering, Diana, and good luck!

      1. Diana D. says:

I think you will really like the scent. The full name is I Love NY for All by Bond No. 9. Sephora carries the fragrances online only but will slowly be phasing them out.

I have to find a larger Sephora that carries JHAG in their store so I can test out all the scents. They really sound gorgeous. I’m really excited about this giveaway – fingers crossed!

        1. When I lived in NYC, Bond was everywhere, but here in suburban Boston nowhere. Hopefully one of the good department stores carries the line. I’d love to smell I Love NY For All! And definitely good luck in the giveaway, Diana! Maybe this won’t be a big one since it’s an unusual scent from a brand that not everyone knows. 😉

  8. I always enjoy seeing what perfumes you get in your Scentbird box. I’m not a huge fan of musky scents. They remind me of those Brut (by Faberge) Musk colognes that were all the rage in Dubai in the 1990s.
Renu recently posted…LookFantastic Beauty Box January 2016 Review, UnboxingMy Profile

    1. I actually do like musk, but this doesn’t smell like musk and certainly not like Brut! It’s very floral and I’m not a floral fan. I’m laughing about Brut, though. Brut was owned by Unilever in at least part of the 90s, and I conducted a number of focus groups for the brand. Brut had been a big brand in the US in the 70s, and they were trying to figure out how to bring it back or introduce it to a new generation. You don’t see it around so much these days.

      1. Wow, that’s interesting. Brut used to dominate the male fragrance market in Asia for about two decades. I remember my Dad saying people used to ask him to bring back Brut (the Musk variant) from Dubai whenever he went home. We all hated them and Dad grumbled about the green bottles taking up all the space in the suitcases. Apparently those green bottles with the silver chain are collectibles now because of nostalgia!

  9. You always have such great giveaways, Allison! I always want to try so many fragrances, but they are always so expensive. Scentbird look like the perfect solution. I’ve seen it around before, but now I’m really tempted to get a subscription haha. Great post as always!

    1. Thank you, Megan! If you’re in the US (why am I thinking Canada?), please feel free to enter. Scentbird is wonderful. And I think I’ve got a 15% off code on the post. You can suspend the subscription for a month or two or three and you can quit at any time. I’ve been a subscriber for almost a year, and I’ve discovered a number of scents I would never have tried.

  10. The scent sounds intriguing. My favorite perfume at the moment is Black Nirvana by Elizabeth& James.

    1. I like Black Nirvana too, Agata. In fact, I’ve got a sample that I got from Sephora somewhere. Gotta find it! Thank you for entering, and good luck in the giveaway!

  11. Mary W says:

My favorite scents are Patchouli and Bergamot. This fragrance has both. I like patchouli so much I even grew the plant that is the source of the oil. It must take a ton of plant to get any oil out of it!

    1. Mary, that is amazing that you grew patchouli! Where did you get the plant? Or did you grow it from seeds? I’d love to grow some too!! I love patchouli in scents as well. There’s a small indie brand called Kiori that I found online that has a fabulous patchouli-based scent. I finished up my tiny bottle, and I keep hoping they’ll have a sale one of these days. Thank you for entering the giveaway, and good luck 🙂

  12. Julie says:

I love trying new scents….I do subscribe to Scentbird and I love it! I can’t say I have a favorite perfume, though. There are so many that I like!!

    1. I do have a favorite scent right now, but I agree it’s often hard to pick one!

  13. I’ve heard only good things about this brand, so it seems like one to try! I have been trying different scents lately – I bought a bunch of samplers from Yves Rocher, and they smell so good. I also picked up a lovely light fragrance from Anna Sui called Forbidden Romance that is one I wear a lot right now.
Nidia – Lit From Within recently posted…Old Urban Decay with New It CosmeticsMy Profile

    1. I need to go to Sephora on a sniffing expedition to try out more of the Juliette Has A Gun scents. I know there’s gotta be one that suits me! Did you buy the samples from Yves Rocher online? I haven’t seen Yves Rocher in stores here, but I wish it were available around here. I’ve never tried Anna Sui scents, but the packaging on everything from Anna Sui is gorgeous. Good luck, if you entered, Nidia!

  14. Sorry it didn’t work for you! I’m not a fan of patchouli in scents myself.

  15. Amanda P says:

I don’t currently have a favorite perfume although I am trying to find one! I have also heard great things about Juliette Has A Gun!

    1. That’s good, Amanda! Who knows, maybe you’ll find one here. Thanks for entering the giveaway, and good luck 🙂

  16. Haha! Great name. I don’t think I’d like that scent either. I prefer food scents with vanilla and such. Thanks for your thorough review.

    1. “Juliette Has A Gun” is an odd name of the brand, but I find it rather witty referring to Shakespeare’s Juliette as someone who’s not a wimp. I also like the name Lady Vengeance. They’re definitely dark names so I can see how they could easily be considered off-putting. 😉

  20. I think I might like this fragrance! I tend to like lavender and floral scents, so hopefully I’ll like this! I’ll have to give it a whiff next time I’m in a Sephora–I had no idea they carried them, thanks for letting me know!

  26. alona y says:

I’d love to win this to try something completely different, right now my favorite perfume is my Egyptian Goddess oil from Auric Blends!

    1. Egyptian Goddess oil sounds fabulous, Alona! I’ve gotta learn more about it. Lady Vengeance is something completely different (sounds like Monty Python), so I’m glad you entered. Good luck!

  27. Jennifer Wertz says:

After wearing so many fragrances over the years I am finally just getting into rose scents. I myself just turned 40 and instead of the typical fruity, gourmand frags so popular nowadays I am looking to exude sophistication, elegance and maturity. I have recently fell in love with Aerin Lauder’s Evening Rose, Terry de Gunzberg’s Rouge Nocturne and Dame Perfumerys Desert Rose. I would really love to sample this scent, I am new to Juliette Has a Gun but am excited to try a new rose anytime!

    1. I also have recently returned to rose scents with a purchase of Lipstick Rose, and I thought this one might be in that vein but it is totally different. I’ll have to seek out the three rose scents that you mentioned. I may even have a sample of Desert Rose in my stash that I should find. Thank you for entering my giveaway, Jennifer, and good luck!

  28. I don’t know if this would be the right scent for me either, but I do love the brand name!
Bailey recently posted…Maybelline Colour Tattoo Concentrated CrayonsMy Profile

  29. I am actually not that into Guliette Has a Gun fragrances, they are certainly a bit too edgy for my personal taste. But good for you for giving it away to someone that will appreciate this perfume! My unloved vials just collect dust in the corner of a drawer.

  30. I think this line is a bit too musky for me… but it would be fabulous for someone else. I can’t help it – I’m still stuck with my sugary scents 🙂

  36. Annamarie V says:

The Scent sounds amazing, I love lavender and patchouli but have never smelt a fragrance with them combined. My current Fragrance is a Tokyo Milk lotion but I can’t remember the number, it also has patchouli in it.

    1. I got one of the Tokyo Milk Dark scents last summer – sort of a unisex scent, but I can’t remember the name. Unfortunately, it was a little too masculine so I gave it to a friend. I’m hoping he’ll wear it. To me, the two brands – Tokyo Milk and Juliette Has A Gun – are similar in terms of concept. I like them both! I think you might like Lady Vengeance, Annamarie. The scent certainly isn’t an old lady rose, the lavender, bergamot and patchouli work with the rose to create something quite modern and daring! Thank you for entering and good luck 🙂

  37. adriana says:

i just would love to try it,love trying new things, Right now i love the michael kors rose gold, i got it as a gift and its just 1oz so it would be gone quick, love the smell.

After few years, it was sold to another company that cheapened the formula and then they went out of business 🙁 But it’s a great opportunity to try something new! Thanks for entering, Katherine, and good luck 🙂
