Last week, Pantone, the color experts, introduced the Color of 2014, Radiant Orchid — a mixture of pink, raspberry, purple, plum, and fuschia. (At least that’s what I think it’s a mixture of.) Radiant Orchid is quite different from the trend of the last couple of years – emerald, tangerine — because it’s softer.
I think Radiant Orchid really lends itself to lots of options in makeup. While many of us struggled to include emerald and tangerine in our makeup looks or just ignored it altogether, Radiant Orchid is much more wearable. And although it seems to be a natural fit with cool complexions, I think it will also look gorgeous on dark skintones as well. I’m eager to hear from you warm toned gals on how you think it will look on you!
Think about all the new options in lipstick, eye shadow, blush, and nail polish! Wow. Every year, Sephora teams up with Pantone and introduces lots of new products in the new color of the year. I’m excited to see what Sephora/Pantone have in store for this year. Here’s a link to what Sephora is showing online: http://bit.ly/1jGvi8W
So far, I have seen a few makeup products that may be Radiant Orchid or pretty close to it:
- Benefit Lollitint Lip & Cheek Stain
- YSL Lipstick 138 Pink Orchid
- Revlon Wild Orchid Lipstick
- Estee Lauder Pure Color Lip gloss 33 Orchid Passion
- essie Sheers Nail Polish Under Where 828
Radiant Orchid is a shade that seems quite flexible – certainly much more flexible than emerald and tangerine – when it comes to wearing or using it with other colors. It offers lots of opportunities to be paired harmoniously with related shades within the purple and pink families as well as with other colors and neutrals:
- lighter shades of purple like true orchid or lavender
- deeper shades of purple like plum or deep purple
- some shades of burgundy
- light pink and rose
- navy blue
- grey, charcoal and silver
- black and white.
So what do you think about Radiant Orchid? Will you be incorporating it into your wardrobe, home decor, makeup palette? Do tell!
Also, just a reminder that the giveaway of the Milani makeup collections and adorable lips-shaped satin makeup bags to 7 WINNERS ends on Saturday night, 12/14! Here’s a link to the blogpost to enter: http://bit.ly/1gyvwfX

At the top of the post, you can see my first attempt at incorporating a Polyvore collage into one of my blogposts! It was fun to put together, but I haven’t figured out yet how to find products that don’t show up in their “library”. I guess I have to upload my own pictures! I’ll get the hang of it soon. Promise. If you haven’t tried Polyvore, you should. Like Pinterest, it’s really fun to use to discover new things. And it’s fun to put together collages that can help you create new looks in home decor, for your wardrobe, or makeup looks etc.
In case you find anything appealing in the Radiant Orchid collage I put together, Polyvore provides links to the products in a list below. How cool is that!

I think this is a pretty unique kind of a color and it is going to be fun to have this in our makeup kit too

Yes, this year there are already so many products on the market in this shade, and I think it will be so much easier to wear!
What a gorgeous shade! I can’t wait for all the orchid-coloured makeup products next year.

I haven’t been to Sephora yet this week (hopefully tomorrow or Friday), but I have a feeling that the Sephora limited edition palettes and products developed in conjunction with Pantone are already on the shelves. Plus there are a number of orchid products, particularly lipstick & polish, already on the market. It’s gonna be a banner year for orchid makeup, Gio, lol!
I can’t wait to see the Sephora Pantone collection! I used to wear this color all the time on my eyes!

I agree, Tina! I was at a smallish Sephora yesterday, and they are closing out all the emerald Pantone products. But I didn’t see any of the new Radiant Orchid products yet. I think it’s going to be a beautiful spring, makeup-wise, with all the orchid shades 🙂
