I am a huge fan of handmade bar soap, so when Mary recommended that I try Ravish Soap Company, I had to try it. I followed Ravish Soap on Facebook, so I wouldn’t forget about it.

Not long ago, I saw an ad for Ravish’s limited release Beach, Please! Coconut & Sea Salt Soap on Facebook, and I knew that was the soap I had to try. I ordered two bars of Beach, Please! Ravish Soap Co. has free shipping in the U.S., and it took only a couple of days for the soap to arrive. In addition to the full size bars I bought, they included a free sample of My Happy Place soap for me to try.
Ravish Soap Company’s bar soaps come in wonderful, whimsical, retro, recyclable cardboard boxes. A lot of thought went into the packaging that really communicates and supports their whimsical, retro brand image. Impressive.
What about the soap, you ask? Ravish Soap Co. Beach, Please! wins First Prize as the most beautiful bar soap I have ever seen. No contest.
The bar looks like the beach: ocean, sea foam as the water and waves come in and outer, and sand. On the top of the bar, I found handmade (in molds) sea treasures in different colors: mermaid tails, sea shells of different types, starfish, and sea creatures. There’s glitter, little baubles, and pink, white and black sea salt on top as well. Honestly, gorgeous.
Beach, Please! has a very strong fragrance, so it is not for those who like unscented soap. The fragrance is a little hard to place. I was expecting a coconut fragrance, and although the website says it’s “tropical coconut”, it isn’t any coconut that I have ever smelled. To me, it smells like a fruity, floral scent. Sorry, but I do not smell even a hint of coconut. So, I was a little disappointed. I love coconut scented soap, but this strong fragrance is not it.
Ravish Soap Co. makes small batch, cold process soap using “thoughtfully-sourced” ingredients, e.g. sustainably-sourced palm oil etc. And it is crafted with natural oils and butters.
A strange thing that I have noticed when using Beach, Please! in the shower is that it doesn’t make much lather at all. I don’t bother with shaving cream these days, and I use the suds from my bar soap instead. I can’t do that with Beach, Please!, so I was rather disappointed. Plus, I like lather.
And in spite of the natural oils and butter, it doesn’t feel moisturizing on my dry skin. It isn’t drying at all, but it doesn’t seem hydrating either.
So as much as I wanted to love this stunningly beautiful bar soap, I am on the fence. And I bought two bars, haha. I am hoping that by the time I get to the end of the first bar, I will love it.
Each bar weighs 4.5 oz. and is priced at $7.50. I think it’s a good value.
Update: I tried the sample of My Happy Place soon, and it lathers much better than Beach, Please!. So, I may buy a full size and try another of the scents as well. MHP too has a strong, fruity fragrance, but it doesn’t smell like tangerine and grapefruit, the description on the website. It smells like the same unidentifiable fruity scent that I get from Beach, Please!
Ravish Soap Company makes quite a few other concept bar soaps., e.g. Me Time, My BFF Rosie Soap, Like A Boss Soap, Nekkid Soap etc. They also make liquid soaps, body scrubs, and body butters. There’s a lot more for me to try. Check out their website, it’s fun.
Ingredients: Water, responsibly-sourced palm oil, coconut oil, olive oil, sodium hydroxide, cocoa butter, shea butter, rice bran oil, castor oil, mango butter, beeswax, fragrance oil, mica colorant, pink, white, and black sea salt.
I’m so glad you tried this beautiful soap. It is interesting that we have different results with the same product. You might like the Honey soap better. To me, it definitely smells like beeswax and honey. Our whole family uses Ravish soaps and finds they do not dry out our skin the way commercial soaps do. I like the body butter line and my niece adores the Sugar scrubs. It is true that foaming is not a strong quality of the handmade soaps although the soaps clean very well. Be sure to reach out to the owner to give feedback.
Mary, last night after midnight, I took another shower to wash off the DEET I applied before a hike yesterday afternoon, and I decided I should try the My Happy Place sample. It lathered so much better than Beach, Please!, though still not quite as much as the other handmade soap I use from Nature Island Botanicals. I will update my review with the info about My Happy Place’s performance. And yes, they are not drying at all, but I had expected Beach, Please! to be more hydrating because of all the oils. This is the first soap I have used with beeswax in the formula. I am wondering if that’s the difference? I did review Beach, Please! on the Ravish website. I am still glad I tried it and I will use it up. I may also try some others since MHP lathered MUCH better than BP, and I will try the body butter too. Thank you for the recommendation. I wonder what how BP compares to the others you have tried from Ravish? Also, it could be just this batch??
Hi Allison…Stopping by to say Hello. Been really busy crafting, making lots of cards. I to love handmade soaps. I am very very lucky my neighbor right next door makes hand made soaps. So glad that you’re still crafting up a storm, DiEtta! I have to get back to crocheting, but since I had my cataracts removed and I’m now farsighted, I haven’t gotten the hang of crocheting wearing reading glasses. Guess I need to be patient and give it another go. All the best, my friend!
You know how much I love handmade soaps as well, and these are gorgeous! I would love to try these! Too bad that Beach, Please! didn’t lather!
