RealHer: A New Brand of Cruelty-Free Lipstick You’ll Want to Know

Before I started blogging, I think I had two lipsticks, a red lipstick for going out and either a coral or pinky peach lipstick for all other times. I chuckle when I think about that. I would use my lipsticks till they were finished before buying another.

Wow, have things changed! I loooooove lipstick. And I am so curious about different types of lipstick, different brands, colors, you name it. But in spite of my love of lipstick, my dry finicky lips won’t let me wear some lipsticks regardless of whether I want to wear them or not. So I approach most new lipsticks with some wariness as well as excitement.

Three lipsticks from a new brand called RealHer landed in my mailbox last week. RealHer launched in 2015 on a women’s empowerment platform. Although the background information on the RealHer website indicates that RealHer is targeted to millennial women and I am far from a member of that cohort, I think the positioning is great. Women of all ages need to believe in themselves and pursue goals that make them happy. Plus 20% of all profits go to AAUW (American Association of University Women, I assume, an organization that I belonged to when I was an academic) to support programs that empower women and girls. That’s great.

The lipsticks have great names, and the three I have are:

  • I Love Myself: nude
  • Women Rule the World: pink
  • Be Yourself  Be RealHer: deep red.

The other two lipsticks in the lineup are:

  • I Define Beauty Myself: mauve
  • I Am Powerful: wine.

The website describes the lipsticks as moisturizing lipsticks, formulated with Shea Butter, Jojoba Seed Oil, Macadamia Oil and Vitamin E. To me, the lipsticks appear to have a semi-matte finish. They feel comfortable on my dry lips. The lipstick has the right amount of slip, and they apply easily with one pass. They stay put without lipliner. They last long enough for me, about 3 hours or more before I need to re-apply. The deep red shade leaves a red stain after it fades.

I adore both the purpley-pink and the red. They’re both perfect shades for me.  They’re so weightless and comfortable that I’ve been wearing them both a lot since they arrived.

Unfortunately, the nude shade is too light for my lips, and it doesn’t suit me by itself. But it seems to have a golden sheen, and I plan to try it on top of coral lipsticks and see how it looks.

The lipsticks are cruelty-free and free of parabens, petro chemicals, synthetic fragrances, lead, and phthalates.

The packaging is very eye-catching: black and white, square shaped, and the shade name is written on the side of the tube which is great when you own more than one.

Each is priced at $12.99. They’re available on the RealHer website and on Amazon.

  1. You changed your blog layout, Allison and it looks so clean and sleek! I too have only two lipsticks, one mascara, one foundation and everything else just one and then boom! All hell broke loose and now I have too many of everything. LOL! I have ever heard about this brand at all but I’m going to check them out, love Women Rule The World on you, so pretty!

    1. Yes, Shireen, finally!! Now people can comment from their mobile or tablet – that was the most important reason why I changed. It was expensive, and there are still some bugs but I’m glad I did it!! And glad that I’m not the only one who went from a tiny makeup collection to out of control!! RealHer lipsticks really are gorgeous. Women Rule the World is going to be one of my go-to shades for the summer, and I love the red one too. So easy to apply, so comfortable! I sent your blush palette yesterday, Shireen. The woman at the post office said it could take a couple of weeks to get to you 🙁

      1. Thank you again, Allison and I’ll let you know as soon as I received it!

  2. I’m waiting for mine to arrive… I’m afraid the nude will definitely be too pale for me as well, so I hope they’ve sent me the Mauve instead. The formula looks great, and I LOVE that they’re supporting women’s empowerment. Last weekend, I attended a symposium that looked at the general state and rights of women worldwide and have been rather… disturbed ever since. There’s a long way to go and it is good to see brands like this one do what they can.

    1. The nude would definitely be too pale for you, unless you like that lighter lips look. I hope you get the mauve instead; I wish I did but I love the other two. The formula really is great. Yes, the women’s empowerment support is wonderful. The state of women worldwide isn’t good. Just heard an interview with Gloria Steinem about a documentary TV series about the state of women around the world. Harrowing.

I like the new blog layout. Very professional looking.

    1. Thank you, Rachel! I needed a new theme especially so that people could comment via mobile. And the RealHer lipsticks really are pigmented and comfortable and lovely!

    1. I think they are!

    1. Thank you, Ursula! RealHer lipsticks really are great, and the fact that they help support women and girls’ empowerment is wonderful

  5. My contributor got these and wasn’t impressed, but I can’t remember why! I’ll have to ask her. For years I only wore I blush, no eye shadow, one shade of eyeliner and one foundation. Geez I was boring!

    1. Allison says:

Hmmm, can’t imagine why unless she just tried the pale nude. I adore the pink and I’m wearing the gorgeous red right now. If she’s got the mauve & doesn’t want it, I do! But we all have different preferences ?

  6. Allison I’m laughing while reading your first paragraph because I had about 6 lipsticks and one mascara before I started blogging and now I have over thirty of each. As for the face masks I went from zero to over 40 in a matter lol. Loving these colors though and the message that they’re putting out there is nice as well.

    1. You win the prize for the most masks! Over 40? incredible. RealHer lipsticks are really terrific, and I’m glad they help support women and girls’ issue.

  7. I love the packaging and am excited to try these out. The fact that they donate 20% is great since AAUW is a great organization.

    1. I really do like the red and pink lippies a lot. I’ve been wearing them every day: easy to apply, comfortable to wear, great pigmentation, great mission: I’m sold!

  11. Love how the brand started! And the pigments are amazing!

    1. The pink and the red are so pigmented, and so easy to apply and comfortable to wear. Win, win! And I also love how they started and that they give back. Glad to know this brand!

  12. That packaging though! I know it’s silly, but I love when there is something etched on the actual lipstick, that makes it look extra fancy 🙂

    1. I agree. I like everything about it

  13. I am loving all 3 of these shades!
