Recycling Your Beauty Products For Free For Earth Month & Beyond

Today, I came across a wonderful Earth Month offer on Facebook from the beauty brand, Paula’s Choice, which has teamed up with TerraCycle, the recycling company. The TerraCycle/Paula’s Choice program offers to recycle all or at least most of your beauty empties, whether they are from Paula’s Choice or from other brands, for FREE during the months of April and May!

As you probably have noticed, so many beauty empties that have a recyclable icon have parts that are not recyclable in many of our cities and towns recycling centers. Parts like pumps or droppers or even caps. This program can help with that problem!

Yesterday, I posted my beauty empties from March, and thankfully I hadn’t tossed them yet. In fact, this afternoon, I was rinsing out the recyclable plastic and glass bottles after I removed the non-recyclable (at least in my town) pump tops and droppers. Once I learned about this program, I fished the non-recyclable tops out of the trash where they were covered with coffee grounds. I rinsed them out too and put them back on the recyclable part of the bottles.

In order to take advantage of the offer, click here on the Paula’s Choice website and once you get to the site, click on the TerraCycle US or TerraCycle Canada button below to create a profile which will then let you request a free UPS shipping label so you can send in your empties. I set up my profile that asked for my email and my physical address. The profile also asked for the organization that I was associated with, and I typed in “Paula’s Choice.”

While perusing the TerraCycle website after I created my profile, I discovered that Nordstrom/Nordstrom Rack also has a free BEAUTYCYCLE recycling program in participating store locations.

You can recycle all beauty products (with some excepts like nail polish, perfume bottles, wooden eyeliner pencils) whether you bought them at Nordstrom or not. I checked the map on the page for the Nordstrom recycling program, and I found that the Nordstrom Rack in Danvers MA, not far from where I live, has TerraCycle recycling in the store. I’m surprised that I never noticed the recycling bin in the store, but I guess I wasn’t looking for it.

I figure that this time I will send my beauty recycling to TerraCycle via Paula’s Choice’s free Earth Month promotion. But after the program ends, I will drive my empties to the Nordstrom Rack! I always felt so bad having to throw away the pumps, droppers and other non-recyclable bits on otherwise recyclable items. And the good news is you don’t have to wash them out to recycle at Nordstrom!

I have some products that aren’t quite empty but are past their shelf life. I wonder if they’d take those.

    1. I think they probably would, since you don’t have to clean them out first! Worth a try!
