Revlon Nail Art Appliques

Recently, I was in Ocean State Job Lots (our version of Big Lots) looking for a glass container to store rye flour that I use for bread baking. Unfortunately, I came up empty. But so the trip wasn’t a total waste, I went for a stroll down the makeup aisle.

There were a number of intriguing things on sale in Cosmetics. Unfortunately, I was feeling cheap so I passed on the gold Milani eyeliner pencil that I now wish I had bought for $2. Instead, I picked up a box of Revlon Nail Art 3D Jewel Appliques, aka nail stickers. I’ve always been curious about them, but the $10 that they cost at CVS was waaaayyyyyyy too much for a one-shot deal with paper stickers. After going back and forth on which design I wanted, I went with Brocade Garden, pale pink background with raspberry and green flowers on a textured, brocade-like paper “fabric”.

They were fairly easy to apply. Some fit my nails better than others. If you haven’t tried them, they come in a variety of sizes to fit different nails. They have adhesive on them, so you just stick ’em on. I trimmed off the excess with a nail scissors, or you can just pull the excess down and file it off with the nail file that comes with the kit or with your own, if you like. It also comes with a pointed stick-like thing that I’m not sure what you do with — smooth out the appliqués? Afterwards, I applied a couple of coats of Orly Sec n Dry.

I am mani-challenged, meaning I can’t do fancy manicures. So the nail stickers provide me with a bit of fun and a new look that lasts a few days. I managed to slice off part of one sticker when I was dicing onions with my chef’s knife, so I replaced that sticker. Otherwise, they have stayed on surprisingly well. At the Ocean State Job Lot price, they were worth the splurge! They’re usually sold at drugstores or mass merchandisers, and they’re good for a single manicure.

Have you tried nail stickers? Are they just for kids? What do you think about them?

  1. Are they textured? Or are they just a bit crumply? I’ve used nail stickers before and liked it. It’s a quick and easy way to work a really creative nail look.
