I’m a gloss gal. I have a couple of liquid matte lipsticks that I can and do wear on occasion, but if I’m not wearing a traditional bullet lipstick, it’s lipgloss that I reach for.
Over the past couple of years, Anastasia Beverly Hills Lipgloss (reviewed here, here and here) has been my go-to. Since it’s $16 a tube, I wait for a 50% off sale. But another gloss came to my attention not long ago when I saw a review by Miranda from Slashed Beauty. Because the packaging is quite similar to the Ultra HD Matte Liquid Lip Color, I hadn’t realized that this collection was an opaque lipgloss. Miranda has swatches of the entire collection here.
I stopped into CVS recently to pick up a prescription, and of course, I walked by the beauty section. I decided to look for the Revlon Ultra HD Vinyl Lip Polish collection. CVS happened to be giving $4 in Extrabucks if you spend $10 on Revlon. Because CVS seems to mark up everything, I wait for some kind of sale or Extrabucks before I buy things there. The Vinyl Lip Polish is priced at $10.49 at CVS so with $4 Extrabucks, it was worth it. It’s cheaper at Target, Ulta and Walmart.
Because I have been getting so many red lipsticks over the past few weeks, I passed on the red shade. CVS did not have the complete collection of 12 shades. I think there were about 7 or 8 shades to choose from. I tried to go to Miranda’s review to check out her swatches, but this CVS is in an area with no cellphone coverage so I was unable to launch her site. Boo. I decided on Berry Blessed, a pink-purple that looks bright pink in the sun
and berry pink-purple in indirect light.
I chose it because it seemed different from my usual shades of mauve, coral and red.
Revlon Ultra HD Vinyl Lip Polish comes in a flat tube that fits nicely in a back pocket and doesn’t take up too much room in a makeup bag.
It has a slanted applicator that makes for easy application.
It goes on smoothly with about one swipe. And it isn’t particularly sticky. I have worn it when jogging outdoors, and I don’t end up with my hair stuck to my lips. Also, it feels so good on as it moisturizes my dryish lips.
It’s also fairly long wearing for a lipgloss, though it probably would need to be reapplied after a meal. Here’s a photo of my lips after eating a banana. I still clearly have lipgloss on, though it smudged a bit at the corner of my lip.
The gloss itself is opaque, as I mentioned above, and that’s my favorite. I’m not a sheer gloss gal. In addition, it doesn’t have a fragrance or a taste.
Revlon Ultra HD Vinyl Lip Polish reminds me of two favorite opaque glosses that Milani discontinue several years ago: Power Lip and Lip Intense Liquid Color. I’m happy to switch over to something comparable.
If you are a fan of opaque, non-sticky, fragrance-free lipgloss at a price where it doesn’t break the bank, check out Revlon Ultra HD Vinyl Lipgloss.
Shanah Tovah Allison! Going to check out this lip gloss at Ulta later in the week. Love the shade you chose too. It is definitely my shade.
Thank you so much, Sandy, for remembering my holiday, and for your greeting in Hebrew <3 This lipgloss is a winner. It's one of the best drugstore products I've tried in forever! I hope you'll like it too. And don't forget your $3.50 off $15 coupon at Ulta 😉
