Ribit, Ribit!

So I was just about to sit down and write a blogpost. But first, I decided to shut the window in my master bathroom as the temperature outdoors was going down with the sun.

Now that it’s October, I have taken in all of my houseplants that spent the summer outdoors. I usually hang my goldfish plant on the curtain rod at the top of the south-facing bathroom window during the day, but at night I move the plant to the bar that holds my shower curtain.

Because I opened the window wide today to let the unseasonably warm breeze into the house, I moved the plant to the shower bar. Afterwards, I closed the window and turned around to leave the room. But something out of the ordinary caught my eye on the inner wall of the bathtub. Honestly, I didn’t know what it was, a reddish-greenish-brownish blob.

Looking closer, I realized that it was a frog. It was holding on to the bathtub wall with one of its little hands. It had been living in my goldfish plant for at least the past 2 weeks. I never saw it, and it was there all last week while I was on vacation. I guess frogs can eat plants, otherwise it must have been one hungry dude!

I wanted to return the frog to the wild, but it didn’t seem to want to cooperate with me. The frog was probably about 2.5″ long and 2.5″ wide when it was trying to make itself invisible as a small square. But stretched out, it was a quite a bit larger. I grabbed what was at hand in my bathroom, and that was my blue glass water drinking glass. It was a small glass, and every time I approached the frog with it, it jumped away to another spot in the tub. I ended up chasing it all over the tub/shower stall. Finally, I closed the bathroom door so that he wouldn’t jump out of the room and disappear somewhere in my house. But what to try next?

I ran downstairs and grabbed a plastic container that was about 6″ x 4″. I knew there was a reason why I saved those plastic containers! I couldn’t find the top that fit it, so I grabbed one of the clear plastic plant saucers that just arrived from Amazon to use as a cover. The frog was still gripping the side of the tub. This time, I approached it with the clear plastic container, and I managed to capture it against the side of the tub. He tried to jump, but he jumped into the plastic container. Somehow, I got the plastic plant saucer over the top.

Searching for my iPhone, I had wanted to snap a pic of the cute frog before I freed him, but I had taken my phone out of my back pocket, and I didn’t want to take the time to search for it while carrying the captive amphibian around in its plastic cage. Oh well.

I took it outdoors to release it. I opened the container, and it was so eager to be free, I didn’t even see the frog jump out! Freedom!

I bet it was funny now that the “fear” is over. One winter we went to Florida to stay with my brother
for a week. I went to the bathroom and saw something that shouldn’t have been there. I wonder how loud I yelled.

    1. Oh, no! I am guessing it might have been a snake in FL? Hope it wasn’t a crocodile!!!
