Rubber Ducky Sunscreen & Lip Balm

I think it has been incredibly hot everywhere in North America this week, or it seems like it is. Although I have been spending more time in the air-conditioned house than I would like, when I do leave the house, I make sure I wear sunscreen.

This summer, I have been trying lots of new-to-me brands of sunscreen, and I have another one to introduce you to.

Rubber Ducky Sunscreen.

In addition to have a super cute logo made up of duck footprints, Rubber Ducky is a brand name manufactured by Florida company, Carefree Skincare. The folks from Carefree Skincare have been in the sunscreen business since 1979. That’s more than 40 years! In fact, in 1991 they submitted their SPF 30 sunscreen lotion to the industry’s first official 8 hour waterproof sunscreen test, after 8 hours in the water, their product received an SPF rating of 35.83. In fact, their water resistant technology is Rubber Ducky’s point of difference and accounts for their tagline: “Like water off a duck’s back”. I must say I am impressed, especially these days when some sunscreens are not able to replicate in testing the SPF they claim on the package.

Rubber Ducky No-Ox Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50

Rubber Ducky Sunscreen sent me a tube of their Broad Spectrum SPF 50 sunscreen, and I’ve been using it for a few weeks. It is a “traditional” chemical sunscreen, but it is made without oxybenzone, an ingredient that many people try to avoid for themselves and their children because it is an endocrine disruptor. The sunscreen is also reef safe, oil-free, and paraben-free.

The sunscreen is a lightweight white cream that absorbs into my skin on contact. There’s no waiting, no rubbing. Easy peasy. It leaves my skin with no greasy feeling at all, but it feels moisturizing.

It does have a strong floral scent, but the scent dissipates in a minute or two. Nevertheless, if you are sensitive to fragrances, you need to pass on this particular Rubber Ducky Sunscreen.

Like other chemical sunscreens, it should be applied 15 minutes before sun exposure, and it should be reapplied every two hours. It is water resistant, but should be reapplied after 80 minutes in the water. It is no problem to reapply Rubber Ducky No-Ox Sunscreen SPF 50 because it is greaseless and lightweight.

Not surprisingly, this has become one of my favorites cream sunscreens this summer! It is truly perfect to use on a hot day. The tube contains 3.3 fl. oz. and I believe that it is TSA-approved. It’s one of the most popular brands on Amazon, and this Rubber Ducky Sunscreen SPF 50 is priced at an affordable $6.99 that includes a $2.00 discount for Prime members. The regular price is $8.99.

Rubber Ducky has an extensive sunscreen product line. I am looking forward to trying Rubber Ducky’s natural mineral sunscreens made with zinc oxide, too. And they have a line of sunscreens made specifically for children.

Rubber Ducky Lip Sunscreens

I was sent 3 Rubber Ducky lip balm sunscreens, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them!

The Original Formula LIP and the Children’s Lipscreen are both yummy vanilla-flavored and smooth as silk. They feel fantastic on my lips, and they have SPF 44. They are colorless and very hydrating. Like the Rubber Ducky Sunscreen SPF 50 that I’ve been using, they are chemical sunscreens, but they do not have oxybenzone. There doesn’t seem to be a difference other than in the color of the tube between the Children’s Lipscreen and the Original Formula LIP. I love them both. The Original Formula LIP that come in a twist up tube with 0.15 oz. are sold on Amazon in packs of 3, 4 or 5 tubes. The 3 pack is priced at $6.99.

The third lip sunscreen, Rubber Ducky Natural Lip Protectant SPF 30 is a natural formula with zinc oxide, with a yummy natural vanilla flavor. Like the other Rubber Ducky lip screens, it has no oxybenzone plus it’s gluten-free, non-GMO, and it’s reef-safe. I looked at the reviews on Amazon, and I was confused by the “top critical review”. One reviewer (from 2019) mentioned that it had a slightly heavier formula and that it left a gray-white cast on his/her lips. In all honesty, that is not my experience with Rubber Ducky Natural Lip Protectant SPF 30. It does not seem heavier than the Original Formula LIP, and it leaves no white or gray cast on my lips, and the more recent reviewers from 2020-2021 agree with me. Rubber Ducky Natural Lip Protectant SPF 30 is sold on Amazon and it comes in a 3 pack for $5.99 or a 4 pack for $7.50.

I’m enjoying Rubber Ducky, and I’m looking forward to trying some of their other sunscreens as well. If you’re in the market for a sunscreen with high SPF, good esthetics and an affordable price, head to Amazon and try Rubber Ducky. 🙂
