Scent-Lover’s Mother’s Day Gift Guide

As you may know, I am a fan of most things (not all) scented. I wear perfume frequently, and use products to scent my home. I know that not everyone is a scent lover, but if you are shopping for Mother’s Day for a scent lover, here are a few ideas to get you started.

Diffusers

Tocca Diffusore Ambiente, Kauai Hibiscus Coconut Leaves: For the devoted fragrance lover, Tocca is one of the scent houses at the pinnacle. Its exquisite Old World-style packaging and lasting fragrances make it an elegant and memorable Mother’s Day gift.

The Kauai scent is decidedly tropical, and it projects extremely well. It’s perfect for the scent-lover who likes a fragrance that makes its presence known. I love it!

But if hibiscus and coconut are not her favorites, there are 4 other scents inspired by beautiful places around the world to choose from. The bottle holds 4 oz./118 ml and is priced at $35. It is sold on the Tocca website where first time purchasers can get 20% off as well as at Sephora, Nordstrom, Bluemercury, Revolve and more.

Spongellé Private Reserve Diffusers, scent Morning Bloom: Spongelle has been a recent discovery for me, and I am indeed smitten. The Private Reserve Diffuser that I received is unlike any other I have owned. First, it comes in a gorgeous gift box. I saved mine because it was too pretty to recycle.

The diffuser comes with a milk glass vase in which to pour the fragrant liquid. Instead of sticks, Private Reserve Diffusers come with a beautiful flower with a long wick that absorbs the liquid and transfers it to the flower that sites atop the vase.

Over time, the white flower absorbs the liquid and changes to the color of the liquid. Delicate Morning Bloom is a green liquid,

and now I have a green flower in my bathroom.

The scent is lovely and not too strong at all. I would say it is for the scent lover that prefers her scents to whisper rather than shout. I have had my diffuser for almost a month, and the liquid has completely absorbed into the flower. But the scent is still there. And when the scent dissipates, I can buy another bottle of the scented liquid that is sold separately as well as part of the set.  The floret is also sold separately in case you wish to try another scent. There are three other scent kits to choose from. $58. Right now, Spongelle is offering 25% off your total order in exchange for sharing your email address.

Perfumes: Samples and Subscriptions

Scentbird: I have been a Scentbird subscriber since the subscription started at least 7 years ago. What I love about the subscription is that you choose the scents that you want to try as well as the time frame in which you want to receive them. The price just went up a dollar to $15.95 for a one month supply of a fragrance that comes in a spray atomizer.

You can buy colored cases to store them in if you like. Because I was getting overwhelmed with perfume, I get 4 samples a year, every 3 months, but you can get one a month if you prefer. You can also buy samples throughout the year if something strikes your fancy, and you can purchase full bottles of your faves.

Indigo Perfumery, The Perfumed Court, MicroPerfumes, Luckyscent and more: Buying a variety of perfume samples from one of the online sampling retailers that specialize in indie fragrances make it fun as well as an adventure for a scent-lover. If you know the type of fragrances that your scent-lover prefers, you could buy 10 or more in that category and put them in a pretty gift bag or basket. If you don’t know her preferences, you could buy a variety of scent types and let her discover which suit her. Finally, if you know the fragrance house she loves, buy her a Discovery Set from that brand.

Scented Bath & Body Products

Santa Maria Novella Bath & Body Products: I discovered Farmacia di Santa Maria Novella, an ancient pharmacy from the 17th century, on a trip to Florence Italy many years ago.

I don’t think they make medications anymore except for maybe throat lozenges, but they make fabulous luxury bath and body products as well as fragrances. I have been hooked on SMN since that trip years ago. I am in love with their Melograno (pomegranate) scent, and I buy fragrance, soap, bath gel (for some reason the pomegranate scent bath gel is called Alghe Marine which is algae), and Derma-Protective body oil in that scent.

They had a recent sale, so I splurged and bought the bath gel (actually, it’s bubble bath but I use it as body wash) and body oil. Yum.

Although I don’t think Melograno smells like pomegranate, it is a beautiful spicy fragrance with so many of my favorite accords: amber, iris, spicy, earthy, woody. If you or your scent-lover prefer other scents, they have quite a few others as well. There are Santa Maria Novella stores in New York and Los Angeles, but they have a U.S. website now.

Spongelle All In One Beauty Treatment Set, Freesia Pear scent: I adore the scent of freesia, so no wonder I’m in love with the delicate scent of the Spongelle Freesia Pear All In One Beauty Treatment Set. The set comes in a gorgeous oval decorated box (like the Private Reserve Diffuser) that’s perfect for gift giving. Inside you’ll find:

  • a flower-shaped Spongelle Body Buffer
  • Hand & Body Wash
  • Hand & Body Lotion: lightweight, non-greasy, and totally silky.

On the Spongelle website where everything is on sale for 25% off, it says that the Freesia Pear set is currently sold out as is French Lavender. However, both Bulgarian Rose and Coconut Verbena are in stock (and CV is on sale). I have found, however, that Spongelle out of stock products often come back in stock in a short while so check back soon. $40-56 minus the discount.

If none of these ideas fit the bill, you can always give her a bottle of her favorite fragrance!
