Scentbird: Hermetica Amberbee

I’ve been a subscriber to Scentbird, the fragrance subscription, for about 7 years, I think. I get 4 samples a year. Each purse spray is supposed to be a month supply. I know the price has gone up over the years, but I think it’s somewhere around $17-20.

The types of brands that Scentbird carries has broadened as time has gone by. They have more indie brands than they used to. Nevertheless, the vast majority are designer, celebrity and somewhat more mainstream labels. By and large, I can find enough brands that are interesting to me that I’ve maintained my subscription.

Amber and oriental fragrances are my primary jam. I’ve been making my way through all of the amber scents that Scentbird carries, and I have found a few keepers.

Hermetica Amberbee

This month I selected Hermetica’s Amberbee. I received a 30 day purse spray of Amberbee from Scentbird

I was not familiar with the brand Hermetica Paris before I ordered. I chose Amberbee because it was an amber scent. But first a word or two about the brand.

The Brand Hermetica Paris

Hermetica Paris is a relatively new brand. It was launched in 2018 by Clara and John Molloy. The brand’s point of difference is that it perfumes and hydrates at the same time. Frankly, I don’t know why anyone would seek out a hydrating fragrance unless one was spraying it all over the skin. But hey, that’s just me.

In addition, Hermetica has crafted “a collection of molecular fragrances” (per Fragrantica). To be honest, I don’t know what a molecular fragrance is. If you do, please fill me in 😉

This is how they describe their process on the Hermetica website:

The secret of this hydration is contained in a new generation of green molecule, produced according to a patented process from bagasse – sugarcane stalk residue from which the juice has been extracted – obtained in an ethical and responsible manner. It offers a greater sensorial quality to the formula, acting as a co-emulsifier and solvent. The skin is light, nourished, and smooth at the same time. For a velvety scented effect.

In addition, Hermetica fragrances are designed to be long-lasting, “clean”, alcohol-free as well as vegan and cruelty-free. Finally, as a sustainably responsible company, Hermetica has their partner, Planete Urgence, plant a tree for every fragrance sold on their website.

Hermetica Paris has a variety of fragrances. They also have a Discovery Set for $30 sold on the website that can be purchased to try out 7 of their scents. If you decide to buy a full size of any of the scents from the Discovery Set, the $30 gets credited toward the purchase of the bottle.

Amberbee

Hermetica has 4 amber scents. Amberbee is described as “sweet”. The website describes it as “intense, delicately wrapped in myrrh oil…illuminated by bergamot oil and warmed with a sweet amber accord”. The accord is constructed with caramel and a blend of precious woods.

Additional fragrance notes include: saffron, apple, black coffee, cedar oil, clary sage, lily of the valley, red fruits, vetiver oil, musk, patchouli oil, leather, oud, sandalwood, moss, vanilla.

Fragrantica lists the main accords as:

  • amber
  • powdery
  • citrus
  • woody
  • fresh spicy,

and I agree with that list.

Amberbee has a lot going on, but in a good way.

My Experience with Hermetica Amberbee

I tend to always be on the hunt for fragrances that are long-lasting on me. Well, I’ve certainly found it with Hermetica Amberbee.

The fragrance is quite strong, sweet and long-wearing on me. I like it! It has good projection or sillage. It certainly makes its presence known.

Amberbee is listed as a gender neutral fragrance, and I agree. The precious woods and its overall strength give it a masculine note, while its sweet amber makes it feminine.

If you’re a fan of amber fragrances and if you have a hard time finding perfumes that last on you, I heartily recommend Hermetica Amberbee. With its spicy nature, Amberbee is a terrific fragrance for autumn and winter.

Retail Info

Amberbee is sold on the Hermetica website as well as at Bluemercury, Bloomingdale’s, Dermstore.com, QVC, and Scentbird. The full size versions come in deep green bottles with either 1.7 fl. oz. or 3.4 fl. oz., priced at $100 and $195 respectively.

This one sounds like a winner. I like fragrances that have a unisex sort of tilt (gooey florals need not apply for a spot on my pulse points) and I respect your taste.

    1. Amberbee is definitely a good one for true amber lovers. It’s a big one! Hope all’s well with you, Gabrielle xo
