Scentbird Perfume Subscription for the Holidays!

Are you a perfume lover or do you have a perfume lover on your gift list? Scentbird may be just the thing!

I was introduced to the joys of Scentbird last spring, and I wrote about the Scentbird subscription service and the first scent that I tried, Oriental Lace by Oscar de la Renta, here. Just to refresh your memory, Scentbird sends a purse spray with a perfume sample that lasts at least a month. I always get longer than that from my samples!

After I got my first sample, I signed up for a subscription, and I have received a number of scents over the months, most of which I’ve really liked. Also, I like the fact that I can suspend my subscription if I need a little time off to identify a new scent I’d like to try.

Last week I received a perfume that Scentbird suggested for me based on my scent preferences and the perfumes that I like wearing most. Orientals and florientals tend to be my jam. I like spicy, big scents most of all, but every now and then I stray and wear other scent types.

Exotic Essence by David Yurman

The fragrance I just received was Exotic Essence by David Yurman. I’ve found out that Exotic Essence is one of three scents introduced in 2011 based on gemstones which makes sense since Yurman is a jewelry designer. Exotic Essence is based on citrine, and the scent itself is golden in color like the citrine. I have a stunning pair of citrine drop earrings that I will wear sometime when I wear Exotic Essence. The scent was created by perfumer Harry Fremont of Firmenich. I wasn’t familiar with this scent before it was recommended for me, but I was game to give it a try.

Exotic Essence is a modern and sensual oriental perfume. But it has a light scent. It consists of mandarin, Casablanca lily, rose, patchouli, exotic woods, musk, peach, creamy vanilla, amber and Australian sandalwood notes.

When I first got it, I sprayed some on and I wasn’t sure if it was for me. The top notes are mandarin orange and peach, and I don’t usually seek out fruity scents. But the mid-range notes – patchouli (one of my favorites), rose, lily, and woodsy notes – and the dry-down – musk, sandalwood, amber, and vanilla – were perfect. I love how this scent develops!

It didn’t strike me as a fragrance with a big sillage (the degree to which or distance that a scent broadcasts its smell). The next time I wore it (to go grocery shopping, lol), I sprayed on quite a lot. While I was waiting in the supermarket line, the cashier was finishing up with the customer in front of me. The cashier, a young woman, remarked, “Someone’s perfume smells fantastic.” The woman in front of me in line didn’t say anything. I finally spoke up and said, “I’m wearing a new perfume but I didn’t think it was strong enough to reach you.” She replied, “I definitely smell it, and it’s lovely. What is it?” I told her Exotic Essence by David Yurman, and the scent and the jewelry designer were both unknown to her. I gave her the quick story about Scentbird while I was at it! At any rate, I was thrilled. I was happy to learn that Exotic Essence has greater sillage than I expected and that it’s a scent that other people find attractive.

Exotic Essence is not as long lasting on me as some other fragrances that I own, but I really like it anyway. It’s a scent that speaks up but doesn’t yell, and like beautiful weather, it doesn’t last forever, at least on me it doesn’t.

Exotic Essence arrived in one of Scentbird’s beautiful purse sprays. They have branched out from black and added colors to their purse spray lineup. Exotic Essence came in a light green metallic purse spray. Previously, I received Judith Leiber’s Night in a gorgeous red metallic purse spray that seemed to reflect the character of that fragrance very well.

These are absolutely adorable and memorable gifts! And as you can see, Scentbird has holiday gift sets for men too!

Scentbird Subscription

Scentbird’s month-to-month subscription is $14.95/month. But they have several subscription options as well: 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and the cost decreases the longer period that you sign up for. You can cancel at any time.

If you’d like to sign up for yourself or for a gift, I’d be grateful if you’d consider signing up through my Scentbird referral link or through the Scentbird ad in the sidebar on the right of my homepage. Thank you for your consideration!

Have you tried Scentbird yet? Are you giving or getting gifts of fragrance this holiday season?

Sometimes with scents I really like, I get a second sample though it would probably make sense just to go for the whole bottle.
