Sephora Play! Beauty Set Go Bag January 2017

I’m still trying to decide which bag to keep: Ipsy or Sephora Play. Sephora Play continues to make this a difficult decision. This month’s Beauty Set Go bag included a number of intriguing deluxe samples for me to try.

The drawstring bag itself is a parachute-type fabric on the front and open mesh on the back. The material coupled with the saying, “Sweat is just another way to glow”, is a good pick for January when everyone is hitting the gym again. If the bag were a little larger, it would be perfect for toting around a wet swimsuit next summer.

Let’s take a look at the goodies inside.

  • AmorePacific Color Control Cushion Compact: 3 different single sample shades. I know that Tan Blush and Almond Blush are way too dark for me. I hope the one at the top with “Pink Undertones” will suit me. I have an AmorePacific Anti-aging Cushion Compact, but the shade isn’t right for me. I’d love to find one that’s a good match.
  • Tarte Frxxxtion Stick: I believe that this exfoliating stick is an alternative to the PUR Joystick Deep Pore Cleanser that I wrote about a few days ago, here, though it looks completely different other than it’s a stick too. Because the Tarte stick is deep purple, I can’t see the exfoliating bits like I can with the PUR stick. I’m looking forward to comparing the two soon.

  • Ouai Haircare Treatment Masque: I know that a lot of women love Ouai, but I am so tired of getting haircare products in my subscriptions. I will eventually give it a try.
  • Tory Burch Love Relentlessly Eau de Parfum: I guess Sephora always includes a fragrance sample. The notes in this pale pink floral scent are pink pepper, orris root and patchouli. Though too floral for me, I think for many women, this would be an ideal Valentine’s day or night fragrance.

Overall Thoughts:

Although there are never any full size products, I am enthusiastic about two of the samples (Tarte and Clinique) and I was eager to try at least 4 of the 6. Who knows, I could even fall in love with the Ouai Treatment Masque once I try it. I would consider this a good bag. I’ll wait another month to decide which subscription stays and which goes!

How about you? What did you get in your Sephora Play bag?

  1. This is the best Sephora Play! bag that I’ve seen so far, really good selection of products and good deluxe sizes too. Looking forward to your comparison post on both exfoliating stick, Allison!

    1. Oh, I’m glad you think so, Shireen. I’m enjoying playing with it. My skin is super dry so I may have to wait a few days before I use the new exfoliating stick and do my comparison, but I will!

  2. I think that I would be the most excited about trying that iconic Black Honey Lipstick from Clinique. Not a bad bag, but it’s too bad that they don’t include any full size products.

    1. I’m so glad to get to try Black Honey. In reality, it turns out it’s not a great shade for this pinky peach girl, but I’m glad to get to try it out. And it’s fine for around the house.

  3. For the price, I think it’s a decent subscription box

    1. For 10 bucks, I’m satisfied for sure!

  4. I really want to sign up for this box. I love that tB perfume!

    1. You should, Judy! I do think it’s a good, affordable way to try out new products. The TB fragrance is pretty, girly, perfect for Vday and spring!

Can’t wait to try out the goodies from my bag! My Clinique Black Honey arrived broken but Sephora more than made it good. Satisfied customer!
    Have a great week!

    1. Rose, I’m so glad to hear that Sephora made up for the broken lip balm. That’s great! Did they replace it or send you something else? I was glad to get a chance to try out Black Honey, but I’m sad that the shade doesn’t really look great on me. I thought my bag had a good mix of products this month. Good one!

  6. I can’t believe that you haven’t tried Black Honey before with the hundreds of lipsticks you’ve tried. LOL! I was pleased with my box this month and it was a little different than yours.

    1. No, I never had a chance to try Black Honey, so I was delighted to get it in my bag. Unfortunately, it’s not a flattering shade on me, but I am still very happy that I got to try it through my Sephora bag. I’ve gotta go back to your post, and see what you got!

  7. The Tarte exfoliating stick sounds like something I have to get my hands on. I already love black honey by Clinique. Sounds like a great mix but the only thing I’m not a fan of is the perfume sample because I no longer wear any fragrances.

    1. I’m eager to do a compare and contrast with the Tarte Frxxxtion Stick and the PUR Joystick. I thought it was a good mix this month. I do wear fragrance but I wouldn’t miss it if they’d skip the fragrance coz I almost never like the scents they send – but fragrance makes up such a big percent of their business, I know they’ll keep sending samples.

  8. I got the exact same bag but was disappointed in it. My fragrance must have leaked since the whole bag smelly. I am going to try the Tarte and the moisturizer but the rest is going into prize packages. I don’t look good in Black Honey but I think this was a good item to put in the bag.

    1. I had never tried Black Honey before, so I was very happy to get it in the bag. Like you though, it turned out to be not a very flattering shade for me. I’ll wear it around the house. What a drag about the fragrance spilling all over the place! I guess Sephora Play sends a fragrance sample every month, but IMHO, they could skip it.

  9. Sephora play bags are so cute. I’m a floral gal, and I went through a bottle of the original Tory Burch, so I’d love to try this new one!

  17. I have been with Ipsy for a very long time and I find it hard to subscribe since I get stuff that I can actually use for the price. I love my Ipsy subscription. I got the invite email for Sephora play but I didn’t proceed on paying for it.

    1. That’s funny, I wrote a review of my last two ipsy bags a couple of days before the Sephora Play post, and I’m trying to decide which to keep. I’m leaning toward ipsy for the variety and the cute makeup bags and the good discounts and points system, but I’ve only had Sephora Play for less than a year. I feel like I’ve got too many samples lying around. I think ipsy still has my heart!

  18. That’s a good sample size of the Tarte exfoliation stick!! I would get the Sephora Play box just for that

    1. I’ve gotta try it and compare it to the one I’ve got from PUR Cosmetics!
