I wasn’t too impressed with the first few Sephora Play! beauty boxes that I got earlier this year. In fact, I didn’t even post about it last month because I was so underwhelmed. But finally this month, I got one that I really like! First, I love that it came with a cute cotton drawstring bag. I can use that bag to carry all kinds of small things when I travel or even go to the beach.
On to the good stuff! Here’s what I got:
- Origins Maskimizer: deluxe samples of Skin-Optimizing Mask Primer and two Origins masks – Clear Improvements (charcoal pore minimizer and Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask. So far I used the sleeping mask along with the mask primer and I love the mask.
- Korres Wild Rose Advanced Brightening Sleeping Mask: Although it’s strange to get two different sleeping masks in one bag, I love Korres and I will enjoy using this deluxe sample.
- Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick: a mini-lipstick from a brand I love in Kimchi, a bright purpley-pink matte, a great summer shade. I’m hoping I can wear this matte without drying my lips.
- Tarteist Lip Crayon in Latergram, a lovely mauve.
- Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask: I have a jar of this mask, and it’s a good one. Glad to have a travel size.
- Atelier Cologne: Orange Sanguine (blood orange). I usually hate getting perfume samples, but I happen to like this scent, a bright, gender neutral scent.
Definitely worth $10 this month. I like that these are different brands than I typically get from ipsy and Birchbox, so I’m particularly pleased. Plus I really wanted to try the Bite Beauty matte lipstick formula. I love that brand, but I’m always concerned about buying mattes since my lips have such a hard time with them. At least I’m not paying to try it out! I know I’ll get a lot of use out of the neutral Tarteist Lip Crayon – a perfect shade.
Do you subscribe to Sephora Play!? Were you happy with it this month? What was your favorite item?
I’ve got Amuse Bouche in Maple and it’s my new fave red. I can’t really say that it’s moisturising, but it’s not drying either. I was hesitant at first, as I started to get that dry feeling about half an hour into wear, but I decided to let it play out (in the name of science, of course!) and about half an hour after that it just stops. When I remove the colour at the end of the day (overall wear is good, I just touch it up after eating) my lips don’t feel at all parched. Hope Kimchi works out for you! It’s such a happy summer colour!
I think I would have preferred Maple since Kimchi is sooooooo bright, but I think it’ll be fun for summer. I will remember to put on lip balm before trying it out. Glad to hear that it lasts pretty much all day!
I finally got off the wait list and this was my first month.
And what did you think about it, Laura, for your first month?
I was not disappointed with the brand choices just wish the masks had been a little bigger for sampling purposes. The drawstring bag was super cute.
I got 2 nights out of the Origins sleeping mask, and for me, it was enough to tell that I really liked it. But yes, greedily, I wish they had given us more!!
The mist was one use only for me. The mask packets was not enough to cover my face evenly. When your face is the size of a large watermelon that’s what happens I guess. lol but ;(
Oh, Laura, I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking 🙁
Oh gosh Allison now I feel bad. Please no need for any apology. You did not offend me at all. 🙂 I make fun of myself as a hobby. ha ha I have been on steroids and it is not helping the big face problem at all. xoxo
Don’t feel bad, Laura! You are almost always so upbeat that I sometimes forget about all your health challenges.
I am so glad tha you finally got one that works for you! This definitely is a nice selection of products. I am really looking forward to your thoughts on the newer Bite Beauty lipstick formula!

Me too, Helen, because I was thinking of canceling the subscription. I need to do a post, Matte Lipsticks that Work for Me, but it would be a short article 😉
I would have loved his too, especially the lippies!
LOVE the new look of your layout!
Thank you so much, Kim!! Got time to get together one of these days? I wanna hear about your grad weekend in DC Beach if nice weather or anything else if it’s not?
I agree that this bag is brilliant! I’m especially pleased to see Bite Beauty lipstick was included, I love the brand.

I love Kimchi today while out in the backyard gardening and sweating. I put it over lip balm just in case, and it did fade but you can still see it and it was very comfortable!
My favorite thing is the bag. I’m getting jaded after all these years of buying subscriptions. I like the Tarte and can use that. A lot of it though will go in a giveaway.

I completely get it, Marcia. I have way too much stuff, and 3 subscriptions is too much. I was all set to cancel the Sephora subscription because I didn’t like the other boxes I got at all. But I must admit I love the bag, and I have used everything I received in this box and I like ’em all. We’ll see what happens next month!
I got this one, and I’m SO excited over it! Can’t wait to try the products! <3

Thank you, Kim! Yes, finally a good Sephora box. I’m amazed by how much I like the masks in this box as well as the lippies. Even the Atelier Cologne Orange Sauvage sample is a good one!
I got this months box too, and so far so good. I thought the little bag was adorable, and I really like the Tarte liner!

The Origins masks were great, and I’m looking forward to using the Wild Rose mask from Korres. Very nice skincare products this month!
Okay, I seriously need to try the Play box at least once so I’m going to go and check out what it’s about and if they offer cancel at anytime and what the stipulations are… because this box looks like something I would love.
It’s pay as you go so I think you can cancel at any time. This was my third box. The first one was meh, the second was not good at all but I love this one and I am using everything in it. Fingers crossed for next month. Do check it out!
Very nice! Still not available for me.

I’m surprised that they’re testing marketing the box for so long especially since they have a “waiting list”. Bogus, I think.
I was finally able to get this month’s mailing for Play. I thought it was a pretty good box too! I know you love your reds, but I think the lippie will look gorgeous on you!

Thank you, Amber! This is a little more purple than I would ideally like, but I know I’ll wear it this summer. I was so disappointed in last month’s box, and my first box in March was meh, so I was thrilled to get this box – I am using everything in it and that’s rare for me. I lucked out finally! Hope you will enjoy your subscription.
I don’t think they’ve opened this up to Canada yet, but I will be all over it when they do. That’s some great stuff!

I’m definitely happy with it this month, though I was very disappointed in last month and the month before was meh. Curious to see how the next couple of months go. Hope it does come to Canada. I’ll be curious to see if they change the product mix for Canada or if it’ll be the same as the US boxes.
