Sephora VIB Sale Haul

Today, Monday, November 15 is the last day of the Sephora VIB sale. Frankly, I hadn’t expected to buy anything from Sephora, but I ended up going to the store at the mall for the first time in ages, and I came home with a few items.

I am a VIB member, so I qualified for 15% off. I don’t find 15% off to be very impressive, and lately I have been shopping online cosmetics sites more often where I can get a bigger discount, 20% and up. During the past couple of years, some retailers offer as much as 30% or even 40% off during a sale. But the problem is adding on the cost of shipping. For instance, Melt Cosmetics is having their 25% off sale, and I really wanted to try their gel eye liner that is supposed to be terrific. On sale at Melt, the eyeliner would cost me $12 for a jar, but the shipping is $10. So I passed on it. Sephora has free shipping these days or I can go to the store and pick it up.

So here’s my unexpected Sephora haul. I bought 4 items, and I spent about $73 after the 15% off.

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel: With advancing age, my eyebrows are longer and more unruly. I discovered that I need brow gel. Because I color my brows when my hair is colored, I figured I am better off with clear gel. The mini tube that I bought is regularly priced at $9, so on sale it was well worth the about $7.50.

  • LYS Cream Blush: I believe the LYS Cream Blush first caught my eye on Temptalia. The triangular shape of the packaging and the fact that it’s a cream definitely called out to me. The rose gold metal triangular packaging is so cool. The blush comes in six shades, though there were only three shades at my local Sephora. It was one of the impulse items available in the area where you’re waiting in line. I bought Higher Standard, a peachy shade. It’s a good color for me, and it works very well with my new Lauren Conrad Lipstick in the peachy neutral shade, Shell. It’s buildable, and it is fairly long wearing. The finish is described as “satin matte”.

  • Milk Makeup Mini Lip + Cheek Blush Stick: I received Milk blush stick for my birthday, I think, or else I got it from Ipsy at some point, in the dusty rose shade Werk. I also received a teeny version in the coral shade, Perk, from somewhere a while back. I used up Werk just about a month ago, and I liked it so much that I wanted to replace it with a new one. Werk looks pretty much like my own natural cheek color. It is a cinch to apply from the stick, and it lasts on my cheeks a fairly long time. It comes in 8 shades and has a satin finish.

Here are swatches of the two blushes, LYS Higher Standard is on the left and Milk’s Werk is on the right.

  • Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerize Cream Eyeshadow: I have two other shades of CT Cream Eyeshadow, and they are my favorite cream shadow formula, bar none. While I wish that CT would introduce some other shades besides the 8 shades of golds, coppers and pinks (like silver, maybe?), I couldn’t resist picking up Champagne since it is a pale champagne that really seems to pop (Sephora describes it on their website as “champagne pink” even though I don’t see any pink in it). It goes well with my new LYS Higher Standard Cream Blush and Lauren Conrad Lipstick. Here I am wearing them. In the photo above, I added a swatch of Champagne along with the two cream blushes.

So that’s it. I bought a couple of new things I wanted to try, and makeup that I knew I already liked. I qualified for another year of VIB that sort of surprised me as I didn’t think I shopped Sephora very often this past year. Sadly, I’m a long way from keeping my Platinum status at Ulta. Ulta raised their minimum spend for Platinum, and with my Ipsy Plus subscription (even though I’ve gone to every other month), I just don’t need to buy as many cosmetics as I did in the past.

Sephora’s sale ends tonight. Did you shop the Sephora sale or skip it this time?
