Sephora VIB Sale Mini-Haul & Bday Gift

After much consideration, I decided to pick up a few things during the recent Sephora VIB sale. The 15% off that I qualify for doesn’t really impress me since I can usually do better buying directly from the brand or through other online retailers like Dermstore or Lovelyskin. But I wanted to get my annual Sephora birthday gift, so I made a few purchases.

Sephora VIB Purchases

Sol de Janeiro Beija Flor Elasti-Cream: As much as I like the scent of the SdJ Bum Bum Cream, it just wasn’t hydrating enough for my dry skin. When I noticed new Sol de Janeiro Beija Flor Elasti-Cream in the pink jar, I put it on my to try list.

With a retinol alternative (cacay oil) and squalane/plant collagen, it seems like a better alternative for me. I have only been using it for a few days, but it is much, much more hydrating than the yellow jar and it does seem to help with elasticity. It smells nice too with a SdJ fruity-floral, tropical scent with notes of Brazilian jasmine and pink dragon fruit. I bought the mini size since I was trying it for the first time.

Supergoop Shimmershade Eyeshadow SPF 30, shade Daydream: Although it seems like I keep acquiring the same peach cream shadows, I can’t help it – the peach shade is terrific at masking my red-purple eyelids.

Yes, Daydream from Supergoop is similar to the Jones Road cream shadow (reviewed and swatched here) that Marcia gave me, but it is somewhat more opaque. It’s similar to the shade of the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Eyes to Mesmerize that I returned last week, but this one has some shimmer. What I love about the formula so far is that it is really, really creamy!

Nevertheless, I bought it specifically because of the SPF 30. I have a copper brown shade, Sunset, from the Supergoop Shimmershade collection, and I wear it a lot during the warm weather when I’m outside a lot. Now I can wear them together with Daydream on the lid and Sunset in the V.

Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream: At the last minute, I decided to make another Sephora VIB purchase before the sale ended. My jar of jumbo size Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream is almost empty. I should finish it by the end of the month. But it lasted a long time – a year or two, so no complaints. It is a much better deal than buying the regular size jar. And the rich, hydrating, dewy moisturizer is perfect for my dry skin for three seasons out of four. It hasn’t arrived yet, but I’ll be happy to get it.

Sephora Birthday Gift

I can’t remember if Sephora changes the birthday gifts quarterly like Ulta does, but when I saw mini sizes of three wonderful Tatcha skincare products, I knew I needed to place an online order to get this birthday set. The box comes with a mini-jar of The Dewy Skin Cream, a travel size tube of The Rice Wash,

and a packet of my favorite primer, Liquid Silk Canvas, that’s not a liquid, but a liquidy-gel. (You can buy the Tatcha mini moisturizer/cleanser duo at Sephora.) We’re going to New York at the end of this week for a few days, so these minis will come in handy right away.

Free Samples

Sephora gives two free samples with every online purchase. This time, there were oodles of foundation samples. The only one I was interested in trying was the Armani Foundation because my friend Miriam really likes it, and I wanted to try it.

Unfortunately, they must have run out because I didn’t get the Armani Foundation. Instead, they sent me a packet of Kate Somerville Acne Daily Foaming Cleanser that I certainly don’t need and will give away. Boo. I hope that I will actually get the two samples I chose when I bought the Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream. Fingers crossed.

So these were my Sephora sale purchases. Did you buy anything during the sale or sit this one out?

  1. That Supergoop cream shadow is gorgeous! I have been meaning to get one of those, and keep forgetting. You and I selected the same Tatcha birthday gift this year, and it was a smart choice purchasing another jar of their Dewy Skin Cream during the VIB Sale! Nice mini-haul, Allison!

  2. I was torn between the Tatcha and the Ouai Hair Care for the birthday gift. I wound up going with the Ouai because I am going to Vegas on a work trip in June and thought the small bottle of leave-in-conditioner would be soooo needed.

    1. Either way, the Sephora bday gifts were good ones. I hope you love the Ouai haircare. And I hope you have a wonderful time in Las Vegas in June. Even for work, it’s so much fun! Hope everything is going well, Cassie!

  3. I love that Supergoop shadow. Not only does it look good on its own but it makes a great base for other shadows. I picked the Quai gift but I wonder if I’ll use it. LOL

    1. I love Tatcha so it was an easy choice for me. I hope you do use the Ouai Haircare. I haven’t used their products in a while, but they were really nice. I agree with you about the Supergoop shadows as a base – that’s why I got a light shade this time so I can wear it all spring and summer underneath other shadows to protect my poor eyelids
