September 2019 Ipsy Plus Box

My September Ipsy Plus box arrived last week. The theme is Find Your Light to accompany a month associated with new paths and new beginnings. Nice.

Here’s what I got:

unboxed cosmetics that I received in my September 2019 "Find Your Light" Ipsy Plus subscription box

  • Apto Skincare Pomegranate Maque: I wasn’t familiar with this clean beauty brand. Apto’s Pomegranate Masque is recommended for use after summer or after a lot of exposure to the sun. The masque calms skin and reduces redness. Azelaic acid removes dead skin cells and antioxidant packed pomegranate boosts collagen production and fights free radicals. I haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but I will soon. $20
  • Ciate Extraordinary Translucent Setting Powder: Although I’m a fan of Ciate nail lacquer, I haven’t tried Ciate makeup. As I’ve gotten older, I use powder less and less because my skin is so dry. About the only time I do use it is during the summer or during hot, humid weather. The loose powder comes in a jar with holes so you shake out a little. I’m hoping for some more hot weather so I can try out this powder. It looks so pretty. $22
  • Ofra Madison Miller Squad Midi Palette: I have no idea who Madison Miller is, but I know that I am a fan of Ofra makeup. This trio of face makeup includes highlighters in champagne rose gold  and icy rose and one beautiful cool-toned muted pink blush.  The palette comes with a large, useful mirror. Love it! I’ve used it repeatedly. $35

Ofra Madison Miller face palette w 2 highlighters and a pink blush and Nomad Cosmetics Berlin Underground Intense Eyeshadow Palette, both open to show the shades

  • Nomad Cosmetics Berlin Underground Intense Eyeshadow Palette: Developed for Ipsy but available elsewhere, this lovely palette inspired by Berlin’s fight for freedom in the 1980s is composed 15 embossed pans. They include a mix of warm and cool shades, shimmers and mattes in a wide variety of colors that are perfect for autumn and for me. Lots of shades that are on target for redheads. Last night, I wore a gorgeous bronze metallic shade with a matte medium grey. I’ll use this palette a lot. And it’s great for travel because it has everything I would need. Cruelty-free, vegan. $37

two shades of Illamasqua Antimatter Lipstick: Midnight (red) and Cosmic (pale peachy-pink)

  • Illamasqua Antimatter Lipstick: In my Ipsy Plus box, I received Midnight, a classic red that’s perfect for me. If I had known I was going to receive an Illamasqua lipstick in my box, I’m not sure I would have bought another one. I used Ipsy points to get a second shade, Cosmic, a peachy-pink that’s lighter in person than it looked on my screen. The lipsticks are both smooth and creamy with semi-matte finishes. Cosmic is not what I expected, and I probably wouldn’t have chosen it if I had known that it was a pale shade. The peachy-pink shade is a couple of shades lighter than my own lips, and I’m not usually into that look. Nevertheless, it’s kind of interesting, and I’ll use it as an everyday lipstick. 20 pounds or $24.75 each

Again, I’m very happy with my September Ipsy Plus box. I paid $25, and the total value without the extra Illamasqua lipstick is $138.75. Not bad, not bad at all!

The only product I may not use a lot is the Ciate loose setting powder. The other four are terrific. Not surprisingly, my favorites are the eyeshadow palette, the face palette and the red lipstick.

Ipsy Plus is making some changes to the program, and I’m not sure why. For October, I was given the opportunity to choose one of my products, and I can’t say that I really care about it. The products I was given to choose among weren’t so thrilling. I think I’d rather be surprised. Another change is reintroducing makeup bags. I’ve gotten used to not having makeup bags piling up in my house, and I don’t know if I need them. Oh well, we’ll see how it goes.

Also, another odd thing is that Ipsy and maybe Boxycharm too are introducing megaboxes where for about $10 more per month (around $35), you get a ton of full size products, like maybe 10 or 12, I think. Honestly, who needs that many products every month? I’m having a hard time using up 5, lol.

So I’m still loving my Ipsy Plus boxes, and I hope they don’t change the program too much. If you want to sign up, I’d be thrilled if you would use my referral code.

What do you think about the idea of the mega box?

  1. I’m with you- who needs 10 or 12 full-size products every month??? I suppose though that if one had a local charity or organisation that accepts makeup and skincare that the mega box would be a fun way to get surprised with a load of stuff every month and still have plenty of product to pass on even after picking out what you’d like to try.
And I remember that you were pleased to not have to deal with the makeup bag every month- I wonder what has prompted them to add one now? Odd indeed.

    1. Yes, I agree. Who are the people who need 10-12 products a month? And why are we getting MU bags again? I wish I were privy to their market research!

  4. I wasn’t willing to upgrade either Boxycharm or Ipsy again. I’m already paying more than I used to when I started. I’m thinking of quitting one – but which one?? I’m looking forward to trying out that e/s palette.

    1. Yes, I agree, Marcia. Spending $50/month and receiving at least 10+ full size cosmetics is just too much! I love the Nomad e/s palette so far. The shades are great for fall.

  5. I got the Ciate powder in a sub box and I haven’t used. I like the BECCA powder so much better. I still like my BoxyCharm better than Ipsy.

    1. I really don’t wear powder anymore so it’s the first product since I started subscribing to Ipsy Plus that I don’t need. I’ll probably give it away. And don’t worry, you don’t have to give up BoxyCharm for Ipsy. I have personal reasons why I will not subscribe to or promote Boxycharm, otherwise, it’s a good box.

  6. I love the look of that eyeshadow palette and those Illamasqua Lipsticks are quite pretty!
