SimySkin Age-Based Beauty

A while ago, I was asked to try some skincare products from SimySkin.

Promotional Product & Links

SimySkin is a brand I was unfamiliar with at the time, but I’ve become impressed as I learn more about it. I’ve been trying to find out about the origin of their name, but no luck. It’s certainly unusual! But I digress! SimySkin’s corporate mission is age-based beauty. We all know that our skin changes dramatically at different times of our lives. SimySkin developed product lines formulated with Vitamin B12 to reduce the effect of time, environment and stress on the skin. Importantly, SimySkin works with an oncologist to help determine the effect of each ingredient used in the formulation of the Company’s anti-aging products, and to learn what kinds of ingredients to leave out of their products.

SimySkin recommends products from their product lineup based on which age range you’re in:

  • 18-25
  • 25-45
  • 45+
  • 65+

SimySkin makes cleansers, toners, moisturizer, masks, and scrubs in addition to a number of different serums. They sent me three serums that are recommended for age 45+: Eye, Face and Neck & Decolletage serums.

Serum Anti-age Eye Serum

The SimySkin Anti-age Eye Serum that I received (see below) is not listed on the product page at this time so I am assuming that they have renamed and repackaged the eye serum.

My serum mentions contouring whereas the current one talks about decreasing puffiness and dark circles so I’m not sure they’re the same. The one that I received has a metal ball at the top that can be used to apply the eye serum and help contour the eye area. The current version of their eye serum called Triple Effect Eye Serum does not have this feature.

The serum is a pale yellow liqui-serum that is easily absorbed by the skin around my eyes. It sinks in and driers quickly. I use it prior my regular eye gel. I’ve been using it for about a month. I can’t tell as yet if it is adding firmness, but I’ll continue to use it to see if it adds to my eye gel in terms of benefits.

Because I’m not sure if this is the same formula as the current eye serum, I won’t list ingredients or price.

Advanced Essential Face Serum

“A repair serum that visibly reduces wrinkles, firms and evens the skin tone. Active ingredients are designed to reduce wrinkles at every stage of maturation and provide anti-oxidant to prevent skin damage based on environmental stress. The Microencapsulation process provides a lifting effect on skin which reduces facial appearance of fine lines.” $58, 1 oz./30 ml

Special ingredients and benefits:

  • Antio-oxidant beta-cartone is one of the unique ingredients that protects against sun and oxidative damage, it also an anti-oxidant.
  • Plantago Lanceolata Leaf and Chlamydosypsa extract, powerful anti-aging ingredients, slow down and repair signs of aging.

I’ve been using this face serum for about a month. It’s a very pleasant serum because it sinks in immediately. The company claims modest effects for the serum after 8 weeks: greater hydration, firmness, wrinkles that are less deep. So far, my face feels more hydrated and a little firmer. I’m going to stick with it.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Sinorhizobium meliloti ferment filtrate, Maltodextrin, Benzyl alcohol, Butylene glycol, Acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, Plantago lanceolata (English Plantain) leaf extract, Sodium hydroxide, Hibiscus sabdariffa (Roselle) flower extract, Parfum, Salicylic acid, Folic acid, Glycine soja oil, Cetyl hydroxyethylcellulose, Lecithin, Carbomer, Sorbic acid, Methylglucoside phosphate, Ubiquinone, Citric acid, Polysorbate 20, Copper lysinate/prolinate, Potassium sorbate, Sodium benzoate, Xanthan gum, Chlamydocapsa extract, Trisodium EDTA, Tocopherol, Cyanocobalamin, Daucus carota sativa (Carrot) root extract, Beta-carotene, Polyvinyl alcohol, Palmitoyl tripeptide-1, Lactic acid, Glycolic acid, Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, Palmitoyl heptapeptide-18, Palmitoyl hexapeptide-52, Butylphenyl methylpropional, Hexyl cinnamal, Linalool, alpha-Isomethyl ionone, Limonene, Geraniol, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde

Neck & Decolletage

A “non-greasy neck and décollétage serum tightens skin surface as it helps lift and firm skin for a more defined profile. Ingredients target the loose, sagging skin along the jaw and neckline. These ingredients are powerful and work together to reduce crepiness, intensely hydrate, and promote cell regeneration and skin elasticity.” $58, 1 fl. oz./30 ml

Special ingredients and benefits:

  • In addition to beta-cartone described in the Face serum, this serum contains Essenkin. an active ingredient that promotes skin density, firmness, elasticity and smoothness.
  • Palmitoyl Oligopeptide helps collagen production and reduces appearance of wrinkles, sagging and uneven skin tone.

SimySkin makes what I’d call huge claims about increasing density and firmness after using this serum for 8 weeks. Like the other two serums, I’ve been using this for about 4 weeks. I use a neck cream from another brand in addition to this. My neck skin does seem improved versus using the neck cream alone. I will definitely stick with this.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Pullulan, Benzyl alcohol, Acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, Butylene glycol, Sodium hydroxide, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, Hibiscus sabdariffa (Roselle) flower extract, Pentylene glycol, Parfum (Fragrance), Salicylic acid, Folic acid, Glycine soja oil, Polysorbate 20, 3-Aminopropane sulfonic acid, Calcium hydroxymethionine, Carbomer, Ubiquinone, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Sorbic acid, Cyanocobalamin, Daucus carota sativa (Carrot) root extract, Beta-carotene, Palmitoyl tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, Tocopherol, Butylphenyl methylpropional, Hexyl cinnamal, Linalool, alpha-Isomethyl ionone, Limonene, Geraniol, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde

Other Information

All three of the serums are fragrance-free. They also are without Parabens, Mineral Oil, Synthetic Colors, Sulfate. They are gender-neutral. Made in France.

My Thoughts

So far, I really like the three serums I’m using. The clinical results the website gives are based on two months of use, and I’m only half way there. I have seen some results so far. All three are lightweight and very pleasant to use. They are on the pricey side, so I hope I’ll see some more dramatic changes especially with the neck serum where I have seen some positive changes so far.

The “age-based” brand positioning is a little weird, truth be told. Surprisingly, the website breaks down the age ranges into 4 categories, but they seem to offer a lot of products that are for any age like the hydration mask, some of the cleansers. The products that do have an age range are 25-45 and 45+ so the ones for 25-45 are also recommended for 18-25 year olds, and the 45+ are for anyone over 45. I think they need to change the website to fit with their product line!

But I would say I’m happy with these serums  🙂 Check out SimySkin and its entire product line on their website where their products are sold.

  1. The one that I’m interested in is the eye serum because of the ball thingy, it looks fun to use. I don’t understand why 25-45 range, that’s a massive age gap and those in their 20s have different needs from those in their 30s and 40s.

    1. I get what SimySkin is going for here, but what I think they could have done if they want to stick with the age-range thing is have an under 45 and over 45 category since that is what in actuality they are offering…sort of a pre-menopause and during/post-menopause since that is the event that radically changes your skin. But on their website now, you can choose by skin issues: oily vs. dry etc. Nevertheless, I do agree with you that are certainly more subsets. I never had oily or even combination skin. I would get a single pimple maybe 4 or 5 times a year during my period. So you probably could say that I’ve had dry skin my entire life, but now it’s super dry. To be honest, I don’t know that the age breakdown really works except that I think very young women <25 really don't need anti-aging ingredients at that point, but quite a few do need anti-acne or anti-blemish ingredients. I think choosing by skin issues makes the most sense overall.

  2. I got a little LOL at the age thing, and agree with you! It’s wonderful all three are working so well for your skin – I’ve never heard of this brand but am glad to have found out about it!

    1. Hope you’re using some kind of skincare products even if these aren’t for you!

  4. It makes sense to me that they make products for various age groups because your skin changes as you age. For example, most people have more moisture in their skin in their 20’s than they do in their 40’s. I love that they added a metal ball to the eye serum. I use to use a serum that had one of these and it worked magic when I would put it in the fridge and then rub it over my under eye area- sort of like a cold spoon. Hope you get great results.

  5. I’ve never seen an eye serum with a metal ball like that, for massaging in the product. A couple of the Korean brands had eye creams with glass applicators, but this seems so much cooler.

    1. The ball feels cool temperature-wise. Very relaxing to use it. I’m sorry that they seem to have done away with it!

  6. I used that eye serum and really liked it. My guess is that they had complaints about the top since mine stopped rolling and I wonder if others did too. I hope they come back with it since it’s a great product.

    1. I’m not sure that mine rolls, but it’s still cool (temperature-wise) and it still helps with the contour issue. But I think they did get rid of it because their new eye serum is just a regular pump like the face and neck serums. Too bad!

  7. I probably need to start looking for an eye serum. I tend to neglect that area of skin care.
Carleen recently posted…Dove #SpeakBeautiful To Build Self-EsteemMy Profile

    1. Don’t neglect it, Carleen, unless it’s not important to you. When I meet women my age (i’m older than you), I can tell those who used eye cream and those who didn’t.

  8. I love that they do age based skincare! It’s hard to know what kind of anti-aging products I should be using at my age, so this is awesome.

    1. I think it makes sense. At your age, you don’t yet need the heavy duty anti-aging ingredients IMO that I do, so I’m on board with them for that reason.

  9. I’m such a serum junkie. These sound nice.

  11. What an interesting sounding line. Breaking skincare into 4 distinct age groups does seem a little weird to me as well, but I do think that it is very interesting that they work an oncologist, instead of a dermatologist! I wonder if this is to make sure that they aren’t combining contraindicated ingredients that could be carcinogenic?

  12. I agree, the age category does not correlate to skin care needs of their target segment

    1. But I like the idea of having skincare products without anti-aging ingredients and more emphasis on clear skin for the younger target market and an emphasis on anti-aging prevention and repair as well as hydration for the older market.

  13. I haven’t heard of this brand before, but the metal ball is fascinating! I definitely need to check out all the brand has to offer!

    1. Yes, the metal ball atop the eye serum is so cooling and is fun to use to massage delicate eye skin. It’s a cool brand. I like that the serums for younger women have different ingredients than for the older women. Makes sense to me. Not everyone needs anti-aging ingredients.

  14. This line sounds very intriguing. I’d love to try it.

    1. Yes, I think it’s a great idea to have skincare with and without an emphasis on anti-aging coz I don’t think that young women need heavy-duty ingredients for wrinkles and we older women do!

  17. That’s really awesome that they have targeted stuff for the different age groups. I hadn’t hear of this brand before. Sounds great!

  20. Ive never heard of this brand but I kind of like how they break it up into different age groups. However, I agree if they are going to go with that marketing technique, it should be reflected as such on their website.

    1. I think it’s a good thing if they have skincare without heavy-duty anti-aging ingredients for younger women and the big guns for older women. Not sure exactly how the formulas on the age-related ones differ. And then they have some products that you can choose by skin type or skin issues so it’s a big complex.

  21. I agree with you that sorting by age isn’t always going to work best – I have such oily skin, I’m dealing with pimples like a teenager! lol. I do enjoy serums that have skin-building ingredients, though. Sounds like you had some positive results!

  22. I’ve never had bad skin in my entire life even when i was a teenager – would just wash my face and that it. Now that i’m in my early 30’s i start to realize my face tends to be dry sometimes.

    1. Yes, skin certainly does change throughout one’s life and also by season. My dry skin did quite well this summer, but now that the heat is back on in my house the super dryness has come back again. Boo. Do you have a moisturizer that you like?

  23. I shamefully don’t use any skincare products! (apart from the obvious soap & facewashes etc). I’m in the lowest age bracket but still need to sort myself out! x
