Smooth Sailing with Emjoi’s eRase e60 Epilator

Hair removal isn’t exactly one of the fun topics in beauty, but it can be an important one. I like to think of January as “self improvement” month. A new start. Trying new regimens, new products. And for those of you who have never tried an epilator, it should be something that you know more about.

Almost two years ago, I received Emjoi’s Epi Slim+ Compact Epilator to try out, and I’ve been using it routinely ever since (reviewed here). It’s lightweight and easy to manipulate. It’s a great portable device, though I mostly use it at home. It’s battery operated so it doesn’t have to be plugged in while you use it. Handy.

Recently, I was sent Emjoi’s eRase e60 Epilator to try out. I was very excited because after really getting to know the Epi Slim, I felt I was more than ready to try one of their full size epilators.

I know that a lot of women are nervous about trying an epilator. I was too. In fact, about a year before I received the Epi Slim, I was watching a segment on one of the shopping channels about the eRase e60, and I almost bought one, but I chickened out. After watching the segment, I did a lot of research on my own about epilators and I read about a million reviews online from women who have tried them. I shouldn’t have hesitated to purchase because it can always be returned for a refund if it’s not for you.

So what does using an epilator feel like? It looks like an electric razor, but it is actually like a lot of tiny tweezers working together at once to remove hair at its roots. Unless you have a forest of long hair to remove (you shouldn’t use it to remove very long hairs), mostly you don’t feel anything. Every now and then, you feel a little pinch. You may think I’m a little nuts, but I actually like the slight tug that I feel when I can tell a hair has been removed. It’s like “victory”! I got used to the sensation of epilating. The more routinely you do it, the more it doesn’t phase you.

And what does it feel like afterwards? For me, the smoothness is so far superior to anything you can get through shaving or with hand tweezing. Plus the smoothness lasts for weeks.

Emjoi eRase e60 Epilator

So let me tell you about the specific model that I received. First thing for me was the cuteness factor. Can we all take a minute to appreciate how cute this flowered device is?

The eRase e60 has a head that’s made up of 60 tweezers, and the majority of hairs are removed on the first pass. My Epi Slim+ has 18 tweezers, so you can imagine what a huge improvement this device is! Also, the device has dual opposing heads so it covers much more “territory”, and it helps hold the skin taut. I was worried that the eRase e60 might pinch more than my Epi Slim, but in truth, it pinches less and is more comfortable to use.

It comes with a clear plastic “sensitive” attachment so if you’re using it on sensitive areas like face or bikini, you can use that. The attachment cuts down on the number of tweezers exposed to your skin. But I found that I haven’t needed it.

The device has two speeds that you control with the buttons on the front. But I usually go for the higher speed. What I love about this device is the quickness of it!

How to Use the eRase e60 Epilator

The best way to use the epilator is to pull the skin taut and face the eRase e60 logo toward you while making contact between the skin and both heads (except for areas like the chin where you use only one side of the head). Make short strokes back and forth in one section. It’s not like shaving where you can make one long continuous pass.

Check out this cool video that’s on the Emjoi website that demonstrates just how the Emjoi discs/tweezers work.

The eRase e60 comes with a little brush to clean the heads. Plus it comes with a cute zippered pouch in which to store the device, cord, brush, instruction manual, and there’s still room for other goodies.

My Feelings about Emjoi eRase e60 Epilator

I am a convert. I really like using the Emjoi eRace e60 epilator. I primarily use it on my face and occasionally on my arms where I sometimes get unsightly long dark hairs.

Is it perfect for me? Not completely but definitely close enough. I wish I could get the epilator to remove the hair on my chin. It does a great job along my jawline especially removing hairs that I never used to have up toward my ears and in the mustache area. Maybe it’s the way my chin is shaped? I can’t get either the Epi Slim or the eRase e60 to remove my chin hairs, and that’s the area where hairs grow most often if I shave or use tweezers. Since I’m still stuck in the house with an awful cold, I’m going to let the chin hairs grow a little longer (0.3MM is the minimum length) and try the eRase e60 again on my chin and see if I have better luck.

My only other wish was that it was cordless/rechargeable, like my Foreo Luna or Sonicare Electric Toothbrush where I charge the device with the cord and  remove the cord to use it. In fact, Emjoi does make a number of cordless/rechargeable versions, but this isn’t one of them. Nevertheless, the eRase e60 comes with a long cord so I can use it most anywhere.

The Emjoi eRase e60 with 60 tweezers and Dual Opposing Heads is sold on the Emjoi website.

Have you ever tried an epilator? Does it sound like something you would consider using for hair removal?

  1. I’m pretty much hairless as you probably already know by now so thankfully I never need hair removal products. One thing less for me to spend money on. LOL!

    1. You’re lucky, Shireen, but I hate to tell you that I never had any hair on my face till “middle age”, and you’re not even close to that age yet 😉

      1. Hahaha! Now why did you go and ruin it for me? 😉 I am 38 this month, Allison so I’m getting there. Bring on the facial hair! LOL!

        1. after the big 5-0. You’ve got a long time to go, girly!

  2. This has go to be the cutest epilator ever! I have actually never tried an epilator, but this one definitely sounds good!

    1. Isn’t it so adorable? I had to have it! I am not a fan of waxing, not at all. I find the epilator to be a much better alternative for me!

  3. Does it hurt though? I have used some that are almost not useable, but others haven’t been so bad.

    1. I don’t find the emojoi epilators I’ve tried particularly bad at all. I was glad that I started out with the little portable one because it looked much less daunting. But I was shocked that the eRase e60 with more tweezers was actually less painful. I primarily use the epilator for my face (and sometimes arms) because I am enraged by the hairs on my face that have come with middle age, and I dislike shaving my face or using chemical hair removers that burn my sensitive skin. I like the quickness and long lastingness of the epilator.

  4. This fascinates me considering I have a hairy face. I have to shave my upper lip and chin but it grows back so quickly. I’ve tried electrolysis but it hurt so badly that I gave it up (and I saw no difference) and laser hasn’t worked on me. But I’m still worried about the pain. I know I’d be a good candidate though.

    1. It does pinch on occasion, but I pretty much don’t mind it. I can’t stand waxing so this is a much better alternative for me. For some reason, it says not to use it on cheeks where I occasionally get a few hairs but I use it anyway, and it works great. Also great along my jawline, around my mouth. It does pinch on certain hairs but not all doing the mustache, but it’s so much better than tweezing which is what I did previously. I need to crack the code on the hairs on my chin, and I think the answer is letting the hair grow which I am loath to do. I should have been doing that while I was stuck in the house with this cold! If you decide to try it, it helps me if I warm up my face by washing it with warm water first.

  5. I got laser hair removal over 10 years ago and it was great! However, I need it again. Since it is so time consuming and a huge commitment, I’ve been researching alternatives. I think this is the one! I love the design and how you describe the process. It seems to be an easy solution for me only have 1/4 of my hair left. Thanks for the review.

    1. I have never had laser, light hair here and neither the time nor $$, and I can’t do wax so I do a combination of epilating and shaving. I don’t use the epilator under my arms but elsewhere it’s great. This one is so cute too.

  6. These are cute but they leave me with bumps / irritation.

    1. I don’t mind shaving either, Cindy, except I dislike shaving my face because of the way hairs grow back. So I use my epilators primarily for my face which is why I must crack the code for using it successfully on my chin. It’s awesome for jawline, cheeks, mustache.

  8. What a nifty device. I never really knew what an epilator was. This sounds like like a great tool for bikini area maintenance in summer!

    1. I felt the same way, Julie. That’s why I’m glad I started out with their mini, portable one, though surprisingly, this one is less painful.

  10. I have this! I like your design more ‘tho. It’s a nice gadget for people who don’t mind plucking but for those who want better/lasting effect, I’d recommend to try laser hair removal

    1. I was thrilled to get this pretty floral pattern! I’ve heard good things about laser, but some not so good things too. An epilator is so much less expensive 😉

  11. I love the look of this. It’s cute…it makes me want one. I’d even do my arms if I had a device like this. I’ll have to look around for it.

    1. It is soooooo cute! If you ever decide to take the plunge, Emjoi sells them on their own website. I think Emjoi also shows up on HSN or QVC from time to time. Third party sellers sell them on Amazon.

  12. It is so cute! I’ve always been wary of how much an epilator would hurt, but you’ve got me curious to try one.

    1. I guess it depends on your pain threshold as well as where you want to use it and how motivated you are. I cannot wax, so an epilator is much much much less painful than waxing. I actually like using it on my face where I do not like shaving or using chemical hair removers, and it’s much better than tweezing individual hairs.

  13. I need to try one — I’ve thought about purchasing one for years but, like you, keep chickening out! 😛 I have a lot of very coarse hair, so I expect it’ll be painful to start, but I think the end results will be worth it. It would be SO nice to use it on my underarms so they weren’t always so dark…and I wasn’t having to shave every other day!

    Hmm…putting this on my to-get list! 🙂

  17. I think I’m too wimpy for this type of hair removal. LOL!

    1. LOL, Stacie! I was a chicken too, but my desire to get rid of hair on my face was stronger than my fear. It all worked out thankfully!

  18. I am SO scared of these epilators! I used to have one back in the day, and it was so painful to use that I pretty much gave up. I bet they’ve come a long way since then 🙂

  19. I feel like hair removal is one area of beauty where the industry still hasn’t come up with the “perfect” product yet. I hope they do soon. It’s a real pain (figuratively and literally! 😉

    1. LOL, Lisa! You’re right. I don’t use the epilator for all my hair removal needs but for my face, I haven’t found anything better and it doesn’t really hurt any more than a regular pair of tweezers so I’m good with it.

      1. Yeah epilation is painful when you not trim long hair before use epilator. I love to use underarm, bikini line and legs but not try on my face. Thanks Allison!

        1. Hopefully you don’t have any stray hairs that need removing on your face, but if you do as you get older, the epilator can be used on the mustache area though I wish it worked better on my chin

  20. This is one of the cutest girly epilators ever. I use epilators on my legs, hand and underarms only. Little scared to try on face still. This one seems quite powerful too with 60 tweezers.

    1. That’s funny, Laura, coz I’m afraid to use it on my underarms! But this is a really efficient epilator. And the fact that it’s so floral and girly is a plus as well. Definitely one to consider if you’re looking to replace yours. Thanks for visiting and taking the time to comment xo

  21. This is one of the prettiest epilators I have ever seen! I’ve been using an epilator for over two years now and I’ve been really happy with the results.

If you’re looking for a good facial epilator I would recommend the Braun Face. It’s got a really small head that makes it easier to pluck those annoying chin hairs.

    1. I agree, epilators rock and this one is the prettiest ever! I sometimes use it on my face, but I have a mini epi from the same manufacturer that’s very small and meant for face and I like it a lot except for getting the hairs on my chin. I’ll have to look into the Braun Face. Thanks so much, Jorge, for taking the time to comment and let me know about it!

    1. That’s great, Yuvana! There seem to be relatively few of us epilator lovers. I’ll take a look at the Karmin.
