Soap Savers

Last week when I posted about the South of France Natural Body Care bar soaps (here), a number of commenters mentioned that they had trouble with bar soaps dissolving in the shower. I mentioned that I had a highly effective plastic soap saver that keeps my bar soaps as dry as a bone. And it fits perfectly on the ledge of my shower wall. I had bought it for $5 a few years ago at a bath and body boutique in Newburyport MA, a very cute historic town on the ocean. I wash it with hot water to get out any soap that occasionally builds up, and I put it in the dishwasher every now and then to let it go through the dishwasher cycle so the very hot water will kill bacteria.

Because I didn’t know what the brand of the soap saver is, I looked online for it. I found soap savers on Amazon, and they were so inexpensive it made sense to buy some. I got a pack of 4 soap savers for $5.49. They arrived several days ago – they qualified for Prime shipping.

The new soap savers (the brand is Soap Saver, lol) are a little different from the one I own. The one I owned for several years is made from clear hard plastic “yarn” that’s woven so that water goes through the small holes, and it’s a little less than a half inch so it lifts the soap up and allows it to dry. The new savers are made from white “yarn” that is more flexible than my old one – it’s a little squishy. The squishiness vs. the hardness doesn’t seem to be an issue either way. Both savers let the soap drain, let the air circulate and keep the soap dry. I can wash the new squishy savers, and I can put them in the dishwasher too. But the info on the Soap Saver pack says that you can trim the soap savers to fit your shower stall or your soap tray. I guess that’s why they’re squishy rather than hard!

So I recommend these inexpensive Soap Savers. They are so handy, and they work! At $5.49 for 4 or $5.99 for 6, I can certainly replace them more often.

Maybe it’s not so good that I kept the old one for so long, lol.

Ahhh I just couldn’t visualise what those things looked like. I get it now! I’m good with my current soap solution for the shower but these should be perfect for the kitchen, where the ceramic soap dish is usually more of a ceramic-lined puddle. Thanks! 😀

    1. Oh good, Rachel. I wasn’t sure if it was repetitive to mention the soap savers, but since I got the new ones and they’re fine, I thought it might be worth while. I have those cheesy one-piece shower tub wall things in my bathrooms put in by the builder. I had always planned to take them out and put in tiles and real stuff, but never did. I have those hooks with suction cups in both the bathroom shower stalls, so I bought one of the soap dishes with suction cups thinking it would do the trick. But everything with suction cups loses suction and falls down with a crash, particularly in the middle of the night. The suction soap dish fell more often than the hook rack, so it had to go. I replaced it with an attractive wooden soap dish with slats that proceeded to get mold. Thus my original soap saver. 😉
