Society6: A Source for Great Artist-Designed Gifts

Now that Thanksgiving is next week, it really is time to focus on holiday gifting. Christmas and Hanukkah will be here before we know it.

I Bought This, Affiliate Links

With COVID on the rise, I will be doing most, if not all, of my holiday shopping online. However, I don’t want all my shopping to be done on Amazon. I definitely want to keep the department stores in business, if possible, and I plan to shop some online retailers who specialize in interesting gifts while giving back to good causes. Society6 is one of those online retailers.

In October, Jeff and I went to a small collection of open artist studios that were held outdoors under tents with no walls. It was a chilly afternoon, so we weren’t there for that long, but it was a great opportunity to see a few of our favorite local artists.

Jeff bought a gift for his older daughter from Constance Festo Lafond, an artist who works in a number of media: watercolor, acrylics, photography.

Because she knows that not everyone can afford original artwork, she works with two different companies that print the works of artists on household goods, furniture, office supplies, apparel, accessories, notecards, wrapping paper, wallpaper as well as affordable prints, framed and unframed. Society6 is the online retailer that sells the cutting board with one of Connie’s watercolors on the display or serving side of the board, while the cutting side is plain bamboo sustainable wood.

I decided to check out Society6’s website, and see what they sell. I was blown away by the number of artists whose works they imprint. Honestly, there must be thousands. The artists make a commission each time one of the items featuring one of their works is sold.

I recently bought a small carpet (size 2′ x 3′) with Connie’s watercolor “Ocean Waves” on it to place by the side of my bed. The wall to wall carpeting that I had installed at the end of September is a much lighter shade than I remembered when I bought it over a year ago. And it is a Berber, so it has a slightly raised pattern that I think gets worn or tamped down with traffic, so I thought having a throw rug might help. I love Ocean Waves, and I think it works well in my bedroom. The nighttime light in my room isn’t that great, but these are my two new rugs.

Last week, they had one of their fairly frequent sales, so I bought a gift for Jeff’s younger daughter (a different cutting board in different artist’s design, Reflection Cutting Board by Nadja),

a second cutting board called Eucalyptus Watercolor by Melly Terpening, to have on hand if I need another gift,

and a bath towel in a blue and white paisley design by Saundra Myles that will work well in my blue bathroom. The thick, velour towel arrived this afternoon, and I love it.

In fact, it’s at the ready in my shower right now.

The quality of the items is excellent, and truthfully, their prices are affordable even when they are not on sale. Nevertheless, if you take a look at the Society6 website and like what you see, I believe that it’s worth it to sign up for emails that announce their “members-only” sales. Lately, the member sales have been 40% off, and to me, that’s worth it to sign up for emails. In fact, I am so impressed by Society6 that I signed up to become an affiliate, and you can too! Also, they have a referral program. If someone you refer via your referral link makes a purchase, they get $15 off on their first purchase, and you get $15 off as well. Finally, if you are an artist, you can apply to have Society6 sell your designs. Whether you want to get involved in any of those affiliate activities, as a consumer, it’s a great place to shop!
