Sonia Kashuk/Linda Mason Limited Edition Accessories Collection at Target

A year and a half ago, I wrote a blogpost to accompany an article in the New York Times on Linda Mason, makeup artist, artist and fabulist. She believes in the transformational power of makeup as well as makeup as art. She had a makeup studio and store in lower Manhattan that I had hoped to visit, but I heard it has closed. Nevertheless, you can still buy her products online from her website. She also has a blog. If you missed the New York Times article, check it out here.

Sonia Kashuk for Target has teamed up with Linda Mason on a limited edition Face Collection of beauty accessories and makeup brushes to be sold at Target in April. From what I can tell, Linda Mason gets no mention at the store or on the Target website. Very odd. The collection includes makeup bags of various sizes, a vanity tray, a cup to hold brushes, a roll to carry makeup brushes, and the brush set. They are adorned with a fanciful face in black and white and bright colors painted by Linda Mason. Prices range from $6.99 to $29.99.

Because I love Linda Mason, I wanted to pick up something from the collection. I went on the Target website to see the collection and find out when it would be available. It was and is now possible to pre-order the products on target.com. There is free shipping on everything for RedCard holders and for anybody on orders over $25. I found an item or two that I thought I wanted, but I wanted to see them in person before buying.

I went to Target today, April 2, since that was the date that the website listed as the day the collection would be available in stores. I found the large weekender makeup bag that I was looking for. I think it will make a fun summer purse too! Unfortunately, I discovered that  I was not allowed to buy anything from the collection yet. Although the products were on shelf and in extremely limited quantities, they hadn’t actually “launched” yet. The available for sale date for the bag was, according to the store computer, Sunday, April 5! A sister blogger went to her local Target in Tennessee today, and she was told the same thing – she wasn’t allowed to buy anything! They gave her an even later date in April. Clearly, Target doesn’t have its act together on this launch!

At any rate, the stuff is cute and well-made. Here are some sneak peak pix of the products that were on-shelf at the Target in Danvers MA.

I didn’t take a photo of the bag I was planning to buy because I thought I’d photograph it at home. LOL. I did end up pre-ordering it online tonight. Here’s the photo that’s on the Target website:

If you are interested in pre-ordering, here’s the link to the makeup bags on target.com: http://www.target.com/c/bags-organizers-sonia-kashuk-brand-shop/-/N-5szzs#?lnk=Utility_Sonia_030815_X0Y3W4|X0Y3W4|T:Template_Utility1B|C:CMS&intc=2334561|null

I can’t say exactly when they will be for sale at the stores, but if you are interested, call the stores or go and check yourself next week. They will sell out fast since there are so few pieces available!

Do you have any plans to buy a piece from this collection?

    1. They really are, Kimberly. The makeup that Linda Mason sells, formerly in her store and now online on her website, is also delightfully artistic!

  4. Why the crap would they put it on the shelf if they can’t sell it?! Nope. Not okay.

    1. I was very angry about it, Brooke, because I made a special trip there that day to find them. I was shocked that they wouldn’t sell me the darn bag! And the response I received today from Customer Service was a “non-response”. Today, my cousin drove even further to the store I went to to pick up the brush set, and all the products were gone. I think Corporate told the store to put the products away at that particular store, but I’ve heard from others, including Heather J, that she had the same experience I did! Not right. I’m embarrassed to admit that I bought the weekender bag, but I love Linda Mason who really doesn’t seem to get much credit for the collaboration. The whole thing is strange.

  5. That bag is adorable! I love that colorful brush set, have you tried any of her brushes before?

    1. I have the anniversary collection and I like it a lot. I haven’t had any shedding at all. They are soft, densely packed and easy to clean. This set looked great in person, even more densely packed. I think the set contains a couple of fewer brushes and the price is $34.99 instead of $39.99. I wish I could justify getting them, but I need a second slanted kabuki and a fan brush and the set didn’t have those.

  6. I didn’t see that bag, I want it now. I want that brush set too 🙂

    1. The bag is really nice. Well made, and I think it would also make a great purse. You’ll see if they’re there when you are. What a weird launch this collection is having!

  7. Linda Mason isn’t very well known but some of her cosmetics are unique and wonderful. I didn’t love all her packaging though since I didn’t feel my cream products stayed fresh enough. But I have two cream blushes in separate packaging that are just beautiful.

  10. I would raise a stink if there were products on the shelf but I wasn’t allowed to buy them yet. What were they thinking! I’m glad you were able to get the bag you wanted online, though. I like the multi-colored brush set!

    1. The brushes look great, Nidia – so cute and so full. They look worth the $34.99. I was and am pissed off because Target sent me a “non-response” via email today to the email I sent them. They never apologized or took responsibility for a poor roll-out 🙁 But the stuff is cute and the bags are well-made.
