St. Patrick’s Day Makeup 2019

St. Patrick’s Day was yesterday, but I haven’t done a makeup look in ages so I thought I’d show you my “wearin’ o’ the green”, though in the photo the green shades look more grey than they did in person.

Actually, I had planned to break out my Huda Obsessions Emerald palette, but I picked up a lovely shimmery deep green eyeshadow single on Ipsy for $3 that was tempting. It arrived a few days ago so I thought I’d use it instead.

Here’s what I used for this simple look that is inspired by the flag of Ireland:

I am happy with the Space Case eyeshadow, a brand I had never heard of. It created no powder in the pan or fallout on my face whatsoever. It is a perfect loden green shimmer. I didn’t do a lot of blending since I was using only one color because I wanted the full green effect – though this is a much deeper green than the Irish flag. It was very smooth to work with, and it does blend well with other shades. It doesn’t fade or crease, and it wears well till I remove it, as long as it is applied over eye primer. Otherwise, it does fade in about 5 hours or so..

The Benefit Dandelion Shy Beam pink matte highlighter is unusual. I’ve never seen a highlighter without a little shimmer. As you can imagine, the highlighter is very subtle. And it looks more peachy than pink.

Also new for me is the Clarins Joli Rouge Velvet matte lipstick. It is a perfect velvety, non-drying matte cream that is a pleasure to wear. I love the orange-red shade, the type of shade I would have chosen for myself. Thank you to the PR folks who chose so well for me.

I put on a mint green soft cozy sweater from Forever 21 and my bright green lucite and crystal Alexis Bittar earrings with a little sparkle.

So that was my St. Patrick’s Day look. Jeff and I went to Costco in the afternoon to pick up my birthday gift while it was in stock, and we passed on drinking green beer. No parties this year. Did you wear green for St. Patrick’s Day?

Great look. I was on the east side of Michigan and the entire family went out for dinner. We all wore shades of green and had a great time. I am not a fan of green beer so passed on that. Was going to have Corned Beef but this place has always had some awesome fish so ordered that instead. Then we celebrated my Sister and Mother’s birthdays with a great cake my niece brought in. Both my sisters have red hair and my maiden name as Carney and we can trace our ancestry back to Ireland so this is our holiday.

    1. Thanks, Sandy! What a great St. P’s Day you had, and a perfect way to celebrate the family birthdays! I hope your family took pictures with all of you wearing your different shades of green! That’s great that you/your family has Irish heritage. I grew up with a bunch of kids named Carney. As you can imagine that was a pretty popular last name here in the Boston area. I think you were wise to pass on the green beer and go with the fish 🙂

So pretty, Allison! Your skin always looks so hydrated, healthy and glow-y. Can you talk about how you prep it, and suggest some foundations and matte blushes sometime? Thanks!

    1. Thank you, Kim xoxo Yes, I certainly can do that. Since I have such dry skin, I tend to stay away from most mattes and go with products that give my dry skin a dewy finish. Nevertheless, I can talk about matte alternatives.

        Oops…. I didn’t necessarily mean matte, I was just thinking non-shimmer blush 🙂

  3. I completely forgot about St. Patty’s Day!

  4. I enjoy the $3 bargains at Ipsy and have found a few nice things. I’ll watch for Space Case shadows now too. Love your look. It’s holiday without being obvious.
We purposely stayed away from anywhere serving alcohol for dinner Sunday. We went to a deli and they had corned beef and cabbage. Someone at the next table got it and it didn’t look Irish, it looked like deli food. He seemed to enjoy it though.

    1. We stayed away from Boston on Sunday, though it had been our plan originally to go into town to the Flower Show. It can truly be a mess! Corned beef and cabbage is not a favorite of mine – I would much prefer the Jewish deli variety 😉

  5. What a stunning look, Allison! I love the colors that you selected, and the eyeshadow and lipstick work together so beautifully!

    1. Thank you, Helen xoxo

  6. Thanks for the great swatches!

Lovely look! Green just looks so good on you! I forgot to wear my favorite green lipstick from Maybelline and was bummed about it.

    1. Oh, too bad coz there aren’t that many occasions to wear a green lippie (at least not around where I live!)

  8. You look so great! Messy Lochnessy might jusy be the greatest makeup name, like ever.

    1. Thanks, Bailey! I agree: Messy Lochnessy is one of the cutest and funniest names ever and perfect for a deep green shadow to be named after a mythical creature from the lake

  9. I ordered the Just My Luck palette from ColourPop to do something for St. Patrick’s Day BUT it didn’t get here until after St. Patrick’s Day so I forgot until I went to pick up the mystery package (the ColourPop package) at the post office on Monday that the 17th had been St. Patrick’s Day. /facepalm. Anywho, the Benefit Dandelion line is actually my favorite line by them. I partner the Dandelion blush with the matte highlighter if I want a hint of a glow and then if I want to turn it up to 11 I add the Dandelion Twinkle Highlight on a wet brush, cause why not!

    1. How cruel that the palette didn’t come in time for St. Pat’s Day, but I think those shades will look great on you regardless of when you wear it. Glad to hear that you’re a fan of Benefit Dandelion. I like the matte highlighter because it gives light to areas of the face without glitter or shine, and for daytime, or around my suburb, that’s better.
