Stash SJP Eau De Parfum, Sarah Jessica Parker’s New Scent

Sarah Jessica Parker introduced a new fragrance in the fall of 2016 that she called the “naughty, subversive sibling” to her most popular scent, Lovely. Fragrance preferences are completely personal, and since Lovely didn’t suit me at all, I was curious about Stash SJP in spite of the fact that I’m seldom interested in celebrity scents. I tried out the tester just after it launched at Ulta Beauty where it’s an exclusive, and it seemed like it might work for me.

Stash SJP is a gender-neutral scent, and I often gravitate to those gender-benders. It’s described as “aromatic and woody”, plus it has some notes that I look for in fragrances that might be a good fit for my body chemistry: patchouli and musk. More specifically, here’s how the scent is constructed:

  • Top notes: fresh grapefruit, black pepper and aromatic sage
  • Middle notes: Atlas cedar, patchouli, ginger lily and pistachios
  • Base notes: olibanum, massoia wood, vetiver and musk.

The scent was developed in collaboration with IFF.

For me, the top notes, i.e. the opening of the scent, is more masculine than feminine. The sage and grapefruit are rather strong, and I get a woodiness right from the get-go. But the heart of the scent and the incredible dry down are so wonderful that I can get through the opening of the scent.

I love the old-fashioned apothecary bottle that the full size scents come in. And I am always drawn to the darker rum-colored fragrances like this.

I had been thinking about Stash SJP since I first saw it in October. I discovered that there’s a rollerball for $25 in addition to 30 ($50), 50 ($75) and 100 ml ($85) sizes. There’s also a Hair & Body Oil Elixir that I’m curious about because oils tend to be longer lasting on me. During the recent Ulta Beauty 20% off coupon event, I bought the rollerball, and so far, I’m pleased with it. I like the scent, and it seems long-lasting. If you’re a fan, check out the amazing deal on Shopstyle below for a set of 3 of the products for a low, low $42.50!

Have you tried out Stash SJP yet? Is it the kind of scent you’d like?

    1. I agree – the “handwriting” on the label is eye-catching!

  2. Ooh, I need to try this out. I love the other perfume she has out. <3

    1. I think Stash SJP is the antithesis of Lovely, Shipra. It’s not a floral. It’s an aromatic woody scent but it has a fabulous almost vanilla dry down. Take a sniff at Ulta!

  3. You make it sound so enticing. I’d never know how to write up a fragrance review like this.

    1. Marcia, you’re so kind! I struggle with describing fragrances, like wine, especially since I’m such a concrete type person, lol. I think I should’ve described it as having multiple personalities since the top notes are so very different from the dry down.

  4. This is not a scent that would work for me, but it sounds like it’s great for you!

    1. It does start out woody for sure, but it has multiple personalities and ends up being very different from where it started out!

  6. I recently read a very good review of this scent, and now that you are echoing those sentiments, I will have to go try it in person. I tend to stay away from Celebrity Fragrances– unless of course you include Tom Ford among the celebrities 🙂 – but I will definitely try this on next time I find myself at Ulta!

    1. As I mentioned in my post, I avoid celeb fragrances too. But I am drawn to amber colored scents, and that’s what got me to try it in spite of the SJP branding. And I’m glad I did. No, I wouldn’t call Tom Ford a celeb, but a designer, a creative person.

  7. The packaging is great and I’m glad that you’re enjoying it. From the description, it is far too woody for me. 🙂

    1. Yeah, this isn’t a scent for everyone. The initial notes are almost too woody for me, but the middle notes and dry down are spectacular

  8. I tend to avoid celebrity scents too, but sometimes they end up being great. I’m not sure if this one is right for me, but I would definitely try it if I had a sample.
