Stellar Limitless Foundation and Concealer: New Makeup Line at Sephora

Press Sample - Affiliate Links In March, I was sent foundation and concealer from a new makeup line, Stellar Beauty, that’s available at Sephora. Stellar focuses on the small differences in the same skin tone/color family from person to person by emphasizing the undertones: yellow, pink, beige, peach, golden yellow, red, olive. I think it’s a rather unique, if somewhat complex, approach to finding a good color match. I think the way I would approach finding a color match from Stellar is to concentrate on the undertones first and color family second.

Here’s a bit of background before we get into it. Stellar Beauty was founded by Indian-born, Canadian-raised Monika Deol, an actress and model. She created the line to focus on the differences and variability among medium skin tones. So when it comes to the Stellar foundation and concealer, the medium skin tones get the most attention and have the most choices.

Limitless Foundation

As  I  said above, the Limitless Foundation line consists of 22 shades that mostly represent shades in the middle: medium skin tones. Nevertheless, they have a few fairer and a few somewhat deeper shades in the lineup. I don’t know if they are planning to add more shades to each of the ends in the future since medium is their thing, but I hope they do.

I was sent two different shades:

  • S01: very fair with yellow undertones
  • S02: very fair with pink undertones

Here are the swatches for both shades, S01 and S02, unblended first, then blended in.

Although I would never describe my skin tone as “very fair” (I’m between Fair and Light in most foundation ranges), S02 is an excellent color choice for me with my pink undertones. Since one of the “very fair” options suits me best, it means that those whose skin tone is fairer than mine will not find a good match in Stellar’s current foundation range, unfortunately.

The foundation itself is oil-free, not at all greasy or heavy, and lightweight. It’s highly pigmented, and it provides natural-looking medium to full coverage. Stellar describes the foundation as having a “radiant” finish. To me, it looks like a semi-matte finish.

It’s a liquid that I pump out and dot over my skin and apply with either my fingers, a blending sponge or a foundation brush – each method works fine.

Most of the time, I apply Stellar Foundation over primer (usually IT Cosmetics No. 50 Primer Serum or Hourglass Veil Primer), and it lasts well all day. It doesn’t settle into lines and wrinkles, though it doesn’t really camouflage them either (nothing does at this point). It looks natural, and it feels like I’m wearing nothing. I find myself reaching for Stellar Limitless Foundation more and more. I think Stellar Foundation will be my foundation of choice this summer because it’s so lightweight and easy to apply. But I don’t think it has built-in sunscreen, so applying sunscreen separately will be a must.

Stellar Foundation comes in an attractive square plastic pump container that holds 1.01 fl. oz./30 ml. It’s priced at $38. Made in Canada.

Limitless Concealer

Along with the two foundation shades, I received two Limitless Concealers in the same shades, S01 this time called “fair with yellow undertones” and S02 “fair with pink undertones” rather than “very fair” as in the Foundations.

To my eye, Limitless Concealer S02, the shade with pink undertones that I thought suited me better, appears quite a bit darker than the Limitless Foundation S02. Maybe that’s why the concealer is described as “fair” rather than “very fair”. Sadly, the S02 concealer is too dark for me.

Because the darker concealer shade looks almost peachy, I think it looks like a color correcting concealer, and I’ve tried to use it that way. So I apply it first and put the foundation over it. If it were a better match for me, I’d use it as a regular concealer over my foundation.

The texture of the concealer is creamy, mousse-like and very smooth. The formula is buildable. The plastic square tube comes with a foam applicator that I use to dot it on, and then I blend it with my finger. It doesn’t crease on me, and I don’t have to set it with powder.

There are 6 shades. Though the colors are Fair, Light/Medium, Medium, and Deep, like the Limitless Foundation the concealers are also distinguished by undertone: yellow, pink, peach, olive.

Limitless Concealer contains 0.20 fl. oz./6 ml and is priced at $27.00.

Final Thoughts

For me, because of the excellent color match (even Jeff remarked about how good my foundation looked today – what guy does that, lol?), the lightweight feel and good coverage, Stellar Limitless Foundation is a real star for me! I would like the Limitless Concealer even more if the color wasn’t too dark for me, because the consistency is wonderful. I also love the minimalist but sophisticated looking packaging.

Stellar’s attention to the variety in medium skin’s undertones is an interesting way to create a line of foundations and concealers. Nevertheless, I think the line could use more colors at the Very Fair and Deep ends of the spectrum in order to appeal to more women. Even though the majority of women are somewhere in the medium shades, those of us fairer and deeper gals need some love too!

Check out the swatches for Limitless Foundations and Concealers on the Stellar Beauty website or on Sephora.com, and see if there’s a match for you. The formulas are excellent!

In addition, Stellar Beauty has a complete line of makeup including primers, setting powder, blush, finishing powder, eye makeup, lip products including Infinite lipstick and an innovative sounding lip powder for creating lip effects like ombré and strobing. I’d like to try more from Stellar Beauty. Next time I’m in Boston, I am going to see if Stellar Beauty is carried in the big Sephora store because I’d love to play with more of Stellar’s makeup.

Have you heard about Stellar Beauty? What do you think about their focus on medium skin tones and undertones?

The price range is also reasonable if I remember correctly but I have read very little reviews so far. The foundation does sounds like something that I would enjoy, maybe I should get a sample.
